There is no regulation on mandatory winter tyres in Poland or Slovakia, however, most suppliers do equip cars with winter tyres in order to ensure safe travel. The Czech Republic has introduced mandatory winter tyres. You will also find that all suppliers in Belarus and Moldova offer free winter tyres, where they are recommended during winter conditions. All rental companies in Croatia equip their fleet with free winter tyres as these are recommended from November to April. Similarly, in Bulgaria, Romania and Slovenia, all cars are fitted with winter tyres, as it is mandatory to use them during winter conditions. We, therefore, advise all our clients to book car hire with winter tyres in all Eastern European countries during the winter months. Most of the rental companies in Scandinavian countries (Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark), the Baltic countries (Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia) and in Iceland equip vehicles with winter tyres and charge no extra fees for that service.
