Already planned the ski holiday for this season? Europeans usually go skiing to popular ski resorts in countries such as Austria, Switzerland or France. There are also smaller and lesser-known ski resorts in Europe, for example in Andorra, Germany, Italy, Norway and Sweden. These destinations are often associated with cold winters and skiing, but why not try something new and hit the slopes at warmer destinations, such as Cyprus or Sicily? We have made a list of ski resorts where you have never even thought it was possible ski in, nor have you associated them with snow and cold.
The ski season is fast approaching! Willing to try something new and different from where you usually go skiing? This will certainly be of interest!
1. The Troodos Mountains, Cyprus
The Troodos Mountains at Mount Olympus in Cyprus are all covered in snow from Christmas to Easter, which makes alpine skiing and crosse country trails possible. Are you a beginner? Start with a few lessons at the ski school!
2. Mount Etna, Italy
Want to boast about having skied on Europe's most active volcano?
It is possible at both the north and the south side of Etna in Italy.
Reports indicate that the major danger is not avalanches and volcanic
eruptions, but lightning and thunder created by the turbulent air above the
volcano. Would you dare?
3. Mount Buller, Australia
Mount Buller is one of several ski resorts in Australia. You'll find the largest ski resort of 300 acres with 25 lifts and good long runs located 250km north-east of Melbourne. Thanks to a modern snow making machine, you are guaranteed snow during the months of July, August and September.
4. Dubai, United Arab Emirates
The Middle East's first indoor ski resort, at not less than 22,500 square meters, is located in one of the world's largest shopping centres in the middle of the desert, in Dubai. The resort is also home to a flock of penguins, that comes out and plays with guests several times a day!
5. North and South Africa
6. Himalaya, India
In Gulmarg in India, you can ski in the Himalayas, which are known for being one of the snowiest areas on Earth! One of the world's highest gondola lifts takes you to the top (4000m), from where it goes down towards the non-groomed terrain. NOTE: Beware of the monkeys!
