On inspection Car was decidedly second hand. The car was for use in Madrid which is an Emission Control Area. It had a Hybrid Emission Sticker on windscreen. It was not an Hybrid. "

" You should insist on more sensible insurance excess amounts as a condition of your business - perhaps mandate sensible levels.... "

" My only issue (and this is not limited to Thrifty only) are the stupidly high insurance excess amounts - £1,400 excess is daft. My car had numerous dings, scuffs and dents on collection - no doubt Thrifty had charged the previous renters daft money to repair these, but hadn't repaired any, so the excess is just a money making exercise on behalf of the rental company. I took many photos on collection and return just to be safe. If my car had been perfect, then perhaps an insurance excess is reasonable, but not in these circumstances. And goodness - didn't they check it over for new damages. Why can't it be like car hire in the USA - no stupid insurance excess charges. "

" I hired an electric Fiat 500 and was really excited to try one. Sadly it was an awful experience as it was virtually impossible to charge. The lead in the back of the car was broken and no one told me how difficult it would to use a machine in Madrid. I had to download an app but the app was wanting a Spanish address which I couldn't give them. I only got it charged by a very gentleman from Madrid who did it for me and paid. Amazing that no one beforehand or on the EuropaCar desk warned me. Plus the car charge didn't last very long and I was always worried that I would run out. Really bad experience "

" When i picked the car up i raised the issues about tolls as i was travelling Spain and Portugal. I was told all tolls are manual so not an issue. In portugal there were a mixture of automatic tolls and manual tolls. Where i could pay i did. With the automatic tolls i was unable to pay them in portugal because the car is registered in spain. The run around from Portuguese authorities because I want to pay the tolls has been difficult and they remain outstanding. I have been in contact with Budget and got the run around and couldnt even get an email address until the car was dropped off. I have sent an email with the details and still no response. Autoeurope are just as bad as no response for two weeks. I do not want to end up paying processing fees and fines that cluld be avoided. Customer service has been disgraceful and id suggest non existant. "

" The main reason we paid extra for Sixt is the later closing time when we have a late flight. It is a false economy to go with cheaper option and then rental desk is closed. The check out process is very efficient and cars are immaculate. However, make sure you are present when you return the car for inspection. Sixt are very thorough in its check in. Likewise, check car thoroughly (including wheels and bumper strip) on check out. "

" I will never ever hire a car with Goldcar again. I am a Spanish citizen living in the UK so I have a British drivers license, which was accepted with no problems. However when I showed my Spanish ID card, the staff insisted that I needed to show my passport (also Spanish) which I had left in the place I was staying 120km away. Both are a valid form of ID in Spain and throughout the EU, however staff member was adamant, so I could never get the car I paid for. Luckily I walked a few meters to the Europcar counter, which were extremely helpful and allowed me to hire a great car with absolutely no issues. "

" I always use autoeurope for my car renting needs and want to keep using it, but sometimes I feel that the renting companies treat me different then if I had rented directly with them. "

I asked them to upgrade me then, they said they could only offer me a car from a lower category as I had done the contract through autoeurope on a "promotional" rate. " I often use Auto Europe to book rental cars from the big US rental car firms in North America (US & Canada) and I have never encountered problems with any of the large US hire car firms. This is the worst hire car experience that I have ever encountered. Given the BLATANT lies that the Keddy drop-off employee made, I am making a formal complaint. UP until this car rental experience, I have always been very happy with Auto Europe's service and up until this terrible experience (which ruined y holiday), I would have given Auto Europe a rating of "10" in box "4 HOW LIKELY ARE YOU TO RECOMMEND AUTOEUROPE TO A FRIEND". If my complaint is not dealt with then I would feel I would remove the rating to "1 – NOT AT ALL LIKELY" as I would be left with the belief that Auto Europe does not in fact care about its customers and therefore I would not be able to recommend Auto Europe to any of my family or friends. " The car was damaged when I picked it up. I took photographs to prove this. When I dropped the car off the Keddy employee said there was damage to one of the wheel rims. When I said the wheel was like this when I picked the car up, the Keddy employee said he would remove the scratched wheel from the drop-off report and that I did not need to sign the report as he would take care of it and I could leave to catch my plane. This was a lie. He then added a second item of damage to the car, scratches on the tailgate of the car – in fact, like the scratch on the wheel, these scratches were on the car when I picked it up and I have photographs to prove this. When the drop-off report was emailed to me it said that I had refused to sign the drop-off report. This is a blatant lie as the Keddy employee said that it was not necessary for me to sign and that he would take care of it, and that there would be no items of damage on the drop-off report, as I had returned the car in the same condition as when I took it. I have a witness who was present throughout the drop-off process. I will NEVER use Keddy or EuropeCar again. I frequently use Auto Europe to book rental cars from the big US rental car firms in North America and I have never encountered problems with any of the large US hire car firms. This is the worst hire car experience I have ever had again. This is a formal complaint, especially given the serious lies that the Keddy employee made at the drop-off. "

" We had a 3 hour delay and arrived to Madrid Airport at 1am when the Firefly office was closed. The phone number on their website didn't work... We had to take a taxi with my son who's in a wheelchair to get into town. The following morning, I called Auto Europe and spoke to somebody about our situation; I was told that I just need to go to the Firefly office at the airport and they'd sort everything out. I arrived to the airport at 1pm, and I was told by the lady on the Firefly desk that they don't have the same class car at the time and I either wait for 2 hours or I pay for an upgrade. I explained to the lady that I have done nothing wrong and I don't understand why I'd be penalized, however she was very dismissive and rude. As I needed a car to be able to get around with my son who's in a wheelchair so I couldn't wait around and had to pay 100 Euros for an upgrade. Really poor service. I would like my money back!! "

" See above. auto Europe were always very helpful when we called you for support when Hertz was causing us trouble, but Hertz were really terrible. "

" The Hertz staff at Madrid were rude and pushy, trying to sell us lots of things we did not want or need, and insisting we had no insurance. Then the car they gave us had a boot size 30% smaller than we'd booked and we struggled to fit our bags in. Then when drove off to find that there was a screw in the front tyre and we were losing pressure. There was no spare tyre to change it. We called Auto Europe for advice but we're cut off. We drove slowly towards Lisbon and got there eventually, but they wouldn't swap the car cos it was Spanish. They took our car and patched up the tyre. We were given a much smaller car for a day but not offered a discount on our booking, then when we got our car back they'd also refilled the petrol and charged us their rate for it. When we complained when we returned the car in Seville they just have us a Hertz customer service email. "

" Finding the enterprise base in Madrid was difficult - better instructions would have been appreciated. Asked to pick up later than originally booked. Rang to ask this and also went in person and were given conflicting information so arrived to pick up keys and then asked to leave it in car park until we were ready to leave. This was accommodated. Were originally given a much larger vehicle (van) than was booked and after asking for what we booked several times were given a smaller vehicle. Still not what we booked (Citroen berlingo) but smaller enough to not be too worried about parking. "

When faced with the impossibility of getting the car without a credit card and having no options other than getting an insurance that was more expensive than the overall value of the reservation. I called auto Europe support and was faced with incredible rudeness and unhelpful staff which not only did not provide any solution as treated me with severe rudeness and unkindness. Not one to repeat and I'll be seeking to file a formal complaint. "

" Very unhappy with Hertz Madrid. We meet friends arriving from London.I had booked pickup at 4pm.They arrived at 3.00 but was told I had to wait until 4.00. No other people arrived to pick up car. Finally ar 3.45 they said they had a cancellation so I could pick up car. Then proceeded to pressure me in by extra insurance although I had purchased extra at time of Booking! Went to pick up car- found car in terrible condition - a lot of damage. Went back to office and they provided an alternative., which was not an SUV which I had hired particulary as have a bad back! Very disappointed with Hertz Madrid., and wold like some compensation for my sore back! "

We flew into Terminal 4 which meant we had to get the shuttle bus around the airport before finding Firefly. This removed a the convenience we had hoped for by ticking 'on airport' services. "

" We had some complications during our trip to the airport and, consequently, we arrived 2 hours later than we initially thought. The person of the counter told ud that the car was not available and tried to make us pay for a more expensive car. When we said that we were not interested in that, she replied that we had to wait at least 30 minutes for a car to arrive there. I asked then if we would get our money back for tgat amount of time and then the keys of a similar car appeared. It is the first time that I am asked about pay extra money or wait due to the lack of avsilability of a car. Usually company provides the car of the same category, or another car with the closer higher category, but never have tried to give me less than what I have paid "

" Inevitably Auto Europe has little control over the hire company, in this case Europcar. I have used Auto Europe several times, but frequently find that my arrangement with Auto Europe seems to have little meaning to the hire company (apart from making a basic reservation). The hire company's agents take little notice of what the hirer has arranged with Auto Europe, are very persuasive in promoting additional insurances, and frequently provide a car which barely meets the anticipated standard. I rarely feel I'm getting what I wanted at the price I thought I was paying. "

" Our experience in collecting the car was not good. 1. On arriving at the counter, I was told that my booking (Europcar ref. 1111491606) had been cancelled; and then that another booking had been made for me (ref. 1111513430). I have no idea how this had happened. 2. We had booked a car with GPS, and were told there was only one available: when we got to the car, the infotainment interface was all in Russian; once we had worked out how to change it to English, the display said there was no GPS fitted and that we should use Apple CarPlay; fortunately we had an iPhone. 3. Existing minor damage to the car had not been documented. 4. On exiting the car park at Madrid Barajas, we reached a multi-lane exit barrier but had no exit ticket so had to seek help from the operating staff. Europcar should have told us about this / provided an exit ticket. 5. I have now seen a charge from Europcar on my credit card bill, which may be correct (I did take out extra insurance) but I have no way of knowing how Europcar have arrived at the figure. >>> All this makes for a less than satisfactory experience. "

" There was no paper contract, it was sent by email, but I don't have roaming and hence did not have access to email. I was not expecting to prepay fuel, but was still charged a deposit. At drop off, the staff made a mistake and I was charged nearly £40 euros for fuel even though the tank was full! I asked for a paper receipt, and so the mistake was noticed, but if I had to wait until I saw an email, I would not have been able to challenge the charge at the time. I am still concerned whether the situation has been properly rectified, but previous experiences with Budget have been great, so hopefully all is okay now. "

" This feedback is a complaint as I wasn't happy with the rental. While the car and Centauro itself were great, nobody mentioned that they don't accept American Express credit cards. As it was impossible to use another holder's credit card we were forced to take insurance at £20 a day which increased our rental price by %1000. We wish we had known that Centauro did not accept American Express beforehand, we would have taken MasterCard or Visa credit card with us. "

I was bordering on rejecting the vehicle, but the In/out staff did a good job of reassuring me it would be okay, despite my confidence being shaken by the surley counter staff that processed my voucher. " I will recommend Interrent as a low-cost company knowing the potential extras and will recommend Auto-europe as a very realiable car rental specialist. "

" Good value for money but quite agressive when selling the additional products; i.e. insurances, breakdown... The drop-off personnel is very helpful when checking the car and before departing as well to make sure the condition of the vehicle is as described and any damage not listed is recorded in advance. " Very good experience. No hassle with my not taking out CDW waiver insurance or with returning car (which was checked on return and invoice issued). Although it is 'off Airport' the delay caused by awaiting shuttle is partly offset by lack of long queue in office. Only criticism is that staff, whilst pleasant, were a bit slow. But this is a minor complaint. "

I had already opted for the insurance upgrade with Auto Europe, but was told that it didn't really cover the car with them, I had to book insurance separately with them, then the hard sell. To be honest hire car insurance with most car hire companies is CRAP, you lot just make it far too complicated to suit yourselves!! "

" They were very helpful but I think that a 24/7 service will help to avoid future problems with rental companies so problems could be solved on the fly. "

" Interrent wanted to charge me 60 euro a minute after 23:00 when the rent was meant to start at 23:00, even if there was somebody in the office to start the paperwork. They gave us a car a category lower than what we booked (mini rather than standard) and tried to charge us 80 euro to have a standard car. They did not check the car with us and gave us a car with several damages while the form showed no damage at all in the car. We had to take pictures of everything that report the issue to autoeurope. "

" Very old car (100.000km) that made a lot of noise as soon as you were driving over 100 km/h. Furthermore we had to take a bus from T4 to T1 (15Min). This is fine as the transfer is free but is nowhere explained in the reservation. Then the wait to get the car at the Firefly office was 40 minutes!!! The rental was cheap....but unfortunately now I know why. "

" Took an hour to process booking to get car. Car dirty and battered. Firefly wanted to sell us extra insurance for more than twice the full charge of the rental as Auto Europe insurance only covered bodywork not damage to lights, tyres, windscreen etc. They charge through the nose for a full tank of petrol, approx one and a half times what it would cost you at an expensive petrol station. After our first stop the car wouldn't start. No electrics. Luckily we are mechanically minded and traced it down to a very loose battery connection. A few more miles and the tightening nuts would have come off completely. Then we would have wished we purchased the extra insurance! "

" My first experience with Firefly. Brilliant service: I liked that I was given a choice of car (though I understand this is not always possible), I DID NOT have to go through the stupid process of checking all the scratches in the paintwork because I was on a comprehensive damage cover. The check-in process took less than 10 min as docimentation was very straightforward. It was very late and with 2 cranky-sleepy children, I was really thankful for not having to go through all the lengthy motions of paperwork, documents etc. Car was not in pristine condition paintwork wise, but so what! The price was really competitive, and engine wise and all gadgets inside were in perfect working order. I would rate Firefly 10/10 in my first use of them. "

" We booked a car for a trip from Madrid for a good price through Auto Europe and got a voucher for Advantage. . When we arrived at the airport we found that Advantage had been re-branded as Firefly (but was still part of the Hertz group). This caused a little confusion at first and, although the transaction worked well enough, the deal wasn't as cheap as it first seemed. "

Service at the airport was o.k. but we realized sometime later that the charge for a full tank of fuel was pretty high when we got around to checking how much fuel the vehicle actually held. There was also VAT charged at 21% on top of this inflated fuel price. The car had a few scratches and scuffs but otherwise was what we expected. We covered around 1,000km in six days and the car drove well enough during that time. We may use Firefly again but I will be sure to check the extra charges very carefully. "
