Car Hire at Avignon Town Centre Train Station - For the Best of Provence

The city of Avignon in the south of France has two train stations, Avignon Centre and Avignon TGV. Built in a classical style by architect Louis-Jules Bouchot, who also built the stations of nearby Nice and Milan (Italy), Avignon Town Centre Train Station (Gare d’Avignon-Centre) was built in 1860 on the main line between Paris and Marseille. Its location just outside the city's iconic medieval ramparts means that people picking up their car hire at Avignon Town Centre Train Station are only a few minutes’ walk from all the city's main sights and attractions.

A wide range of trains use Avignon Town Centre Train Station, including the local TER (Transport Express Régional) services to and from Béziers, Montpellier, Nîmes, Cerbère, Perpignan and Narbonne. Note that some high-speed TGV trains still stop at Avignon Centre from Paris Gare de Lyon, Provence, Côte d'Azur and Languedoc, although the majority now stop at the purpose-built Avignon TGV station located north-west of the city.

There's much to see in close proximity to Avignon Town Centre Train Station, most notably the UNESCO World Heritage-classified Palais de Papes, the residence of seven Popes from 1309 to 1377 and a symbol of the immense wealth and power of Christendom in the Middle Ages. Another testament to the rich history of Avignon is the medieval Saint Bénézet Bridge, the inspiration for the song Sur le pont d'Avignon which you'll frequently hear sung by your fellow visitors! And you can't leave Avignon without a tour of its 12th-century cathedral, a magnificent building famous for its exquisite Romanesque interior.
