Car Hire at Lyon Part Dieu Train Station - Gateway to the Alps

Lyon Part Dieu Train Station is one of France’s busiest railway stations and a conveniently-located transport hub right on the edge of the city centre. Recently upgraded and expanded, it is served by high-speed TGV services from all over France as well as several other European countries, including Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Spain. A major gateway for not just the Lyon metropolitan area but the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region as a whole, Lyon Part Dieu (or Gare de la Part-Dieu, as it is known locally) comprises several important public spaces, cultural attractions, shopping centres and pivotal public transport services. Originally opened for freight in 1859, the station today handles more than 30 million passenger movements every year, of which a large percentage are travellers en route to the Alps or the sun-baked beaches of the South of France.

The third-largest city in France (after Paris and Marseille), Lyon has a great amount of tourist appeal due to its long, fascinating history stretching all the way back to the Romans. Located in the heart of the picturesque Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, it is dominated by two hills - Fourvière to the west and Croix-Rousse to the east - both of which afford outstanding vistas of the city and its environs. Don't miss the Musée des Beaux-Arts considered the next best fine arts museum in France after the Louvre, nor the atmospheric Old Town known as the Quartier Saint-Jean.

With a car hire from Lyon Part Dieu Train Station you'll have good access to the Alps (Mont Blanc, Europe's highest mountain, is only 150 kilometres away) and many of the most beautiful and interesting parts of eastern France, including the Livradois-Forez Regional Natural Park where you can visit some lovely little villages and eat some of the traditional dishes of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Furthermore, Lyon is only a two-hour motorway drive from Geneva, one of the most enchanting cities in central Europe.

Operating in over 24,000 locations in more than 180 different destinations, Auto Europe is one of the world's top car rental companies with a good selection of convenient pick-up points in many parts of Lyon and its surroundings, including Lyon Airport and Lyon Perrache Train Station.
