" Collecting the vehicle was very smooth, and we enjoyed driving a nice nearly brand new Fiat 600. Unfortunately after dropping off I received a note to say that I was being charged for damages. " I complained to Auto Europe but I didn't get any useful help. I was sent a copy of the Damage Matrix. It included cost of replacing items which I was billed for but evidently the wheels would not be replaced as the damage was superficial. "
" Returned the car at Alghero airport. It was inspected in great detail and they found 2 minor scratches on the wheel and one under the front bumper. Initially tried to charge me €1005 for the minor damage and reduced it to €650 when I objected. I have hired cars for many years and any minor damage has always been fairly assessed. " FYI Oggetto: Reclamo formale riguardo addebiti non giustificati e trattamento ricevuto – Noleggio auto ad Alghero Gentili Signori, Con la presente desidero presentare un reclamo formale in merito a diversi aspetti problematici riscontrati durante e dopo il noleggio di un'autovettura presso la vostra sede di Alghero. 1. Discrepanza tra l'importo comunicato e quello addebitato: Mi era stato comunicato un addebito di €224,92 per presunti danni al veicolo, ma l'importo effettivamente prelevato dalla mia carta di credito è stato di £337,92. Si tratta di una somma significativamente superiore e non giustificata. Attualmente non ho ancora accesso all'estratto conto ufficiale, essendo in viaggio, ma ritengo opportuno segnalare immediatamente questa incongruenza. 2. Contestazione del danno: Il presunto danno, nello specifico un graffio, non era presente al momento della riconsegna del veicolo. La macchina è stata restituita alle ore 17:15, come da mia dichiarazione e presenza fisica, mentre il controllo da parte del vostro personale è stato effettuato successivamente, oltre le ore 18:00. Firma falsificata sul verbale di riconsegna: Non ho firmato alcun documento relativo al controllo del veicolo, poiché mi trovavo già in aeroporto al momento dell'ispezione. Nonostante ciò, un documento risulta firmato da qualcun altro. Chiedo pertanto un controllo immediato, anche comparando la firma apposta con la mia firma reale, poiché si tratta chiaramente di una falsificazione. 4. Un commento inadeguato e del tutto fuori luogo. 5. Pagamento già effettuato su altra carta: Vorrei anche precisare che il costo del noleggio era già stato saldato tramite un'altra carta. Pertanto, l'unico importo residuo da saldare era pari a €100. Non vi era alcuna giustificazione per un addebito di €224,92 o, peggio ancora, £337,92. 6. Costi aggiuntivi non rimborsabili: A seguito dell'addebito imprevisto sulla mia carta di credito, sto inoltre sostenendo costi giornalieri aggiuntivi, inclusi interessi per cambio valuta e commissioni bancarie, che stanno aumentando con il passare dei giorni. " Nightmare returned car with no damage yet being charged for damage when I returned the car gave key to a member of staff and asked him to check the car he asked me if car was full and I told him yes he said was too busy to check car and I left to catch my flight. Whilst waiting to board message came through about so called damage which I disputed right away by email no reply . When I returned to UK sent another email yet again no reply I've now received a charge of 380 euros which is a complete joke I need to speak to someone tried calling no reply. " The experience was good. The only slight issue was that the Autoeurope website seemed to indicate I would need an International Drivers Permit as the UK is not in tehe EU. The UK Government website was clear that I would not. I emailed Autoeurope but the response was that I needed to check with Europcar. I rang Europcar in Italy who confirmed I did not need and IDP. "

The car was 5 years old, 68k km on the clock and was battle worn including a missing fuel cover. No one on reception when we arrived or droped off. The car was parked away from the rest of the fleet... The contract I had to sign had no documeted faults on the bodywork! I was told that I had to photo the car myself and submit them to the WhatsApp number. I complained and asked for another car but was refused. I dropped the keys in via the postbox next to the kiosk and have received no communication since confirming receipt or the return of the deposit. "

" Due to an error in the booking (admittedly on my part) our vehicle was scheduled to collect on the incorrect day from our arrival in Sardinia. Therefore we found that our booking had been cancelled when we arrived at the vendor desk in Alghero Airport. There were no alternative vehicles available from Viaggiare and so we had to hire an alternative vehicle from another vendor as it was late at night and we had a long drive ahead and needed to get our two small children to bed. The following day I spoke with a very friendly AutoEurope representative who advised that it was unlikely that we would be able to receive any kind of refund for the cancelled booking, even though we had not been able to obtain a vehicle. He did advise that he would raise a support ticket and there may be a chance that we could receive a partial refund from Viaggiare, possibly with a cancellation charge or fee being applied, however when following up a week later there was no update on this. He advised that the ticket was still open and so I am hoping that there is still a chance we may receive some refund for a service we paid for but didn't receive, but if that is not the case I would find it hard to recommend Viaggiare or AutoEurope to family or colleagues. "

The auto-europe representative said that nothing could be done despite the Noleggiare representative saying that it was ok for them to do it but they needed auto-europe to amend the booking. As a consequence of that we could not pick the car up and lost all the rental money whilst having to rent another car elsewhere. We are long term clients and the lack of flexibility is not acceptable given that the rental company was happy to change pick up location. "

" Having been able to book the car online with a Debit Card, I was utterly devastated that I could not use the same card to complete the hire at the airport. If you only take Credit Cards at the point of hire (airport in this case) then you should not allow people to use a Debit Card online. I subsequently did not use the car I had planned to use, and hired a car from a company at the same airport who have no problem taking Debit Cards (I do not have a Credit Card). I will never use your service again and will be telling all me colleagues, friends and families to avoid. "

" When I first arrived at half 11am, we got told because we was 15 minutes late we now have to wait for another vehicle which will be no longer than 30 minutes, we did not get a vehicle until twi and a half hours later after complaining many times to the counter staff and to the company itself, but this wasnt the issue, the issue is I returned the car in the same condition I got it in on the 12th, I returned home later that day, a few days after the weekend had finished I gave AutoEurope a call because I had still not received my £156 deposit back, I spoke to a lady ( my call was also recorded ) who told me my funds had been released on the 12th ( the day of return ) which may take a few working days to show in my account, she told me to get in contact with Santander for a better timescale for when it will clear, today (23 September) I have spoken to Santander who said there is NOTHING pending, my deposit has not been sent back and there seems to be no return funds being sent back to me, they have now opened a claim, very upsetting service, my £156 is not in my account and I have struggled this month as I have had no other funds to cover this "

" I consider that it is bad practice on behalf of Firefly to rent a car which had clearly not been properly checked. See Note 3 above for more detail. "
" I collected the Firefly rental car from Alghero Airport in Sardinia on 2/10/2018. After leaving the rental area I immediately noticed the sound of a warning gong from the dashboard and the dash display showed various text messages in German (a language I do not speak). I stopped and inferred from the display graphic that two tyres were probably underinflated; further more a light bulb icon suggested to me a lamp might have also been defective. A visual inspection of the tyres suggested all tyres were inflated to about the same level so I continued to a garage and inflated the two offending wheels to 2 bars (there was no handbook present in the car glove box). I continued the journey to Dorgali and the inflation warnings had now disappeared. In Dorgali I download an Opel Adam handbook from the internet and checked the tyres again, the front right was down slightly and the others were normal. I was concerned about the front wheel and contacted a rental representative 39-079-935054 the lady was helpful and suggested I took the car to a garage and said a puncture repair should cost about 20 euro which I could claim if I had a receipt. She also said I could substitute the spare wheel and I told her I had considered this option but the Adam does not carry a spare. The first service agent I visited said the dash indication was probably false and I understood the mechanic had found a general 'reset' procedure for the info display and had implemented this. Returning to the car the following day I noticed the front wheel was completely flat, using the electric tyre pump supplied with the car I reinflated the tyre to the correct 2.2 bar and returned to the same service agent. He said they did not repair tyres and suggested I took the car to another agent about 1km away. The tyre agent removed the wheel and following an inspection said it would be dangerous to repair the tyre and it should be replaced, which he subsequently did. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vehicle I received; I cannot believe the car had been properly checked before being rented to me, any experienced member of staff should have easily spotted the problems with this particular car with its high level of self testing just by driving a short distance. This experience of course had a detrimental effect on my holiday. "

" As above - car which had already done 78,000 km, full of unmarked scratches and dents, which puts a lot of pressure on the rentee to check everything on the car. My guess is that Firefly are able to offer a good price because they buy up cars from the more reputable hire companies, who usually have given me a car which was either nearly new, or had done no more than 10,000km. "
" The car had done 78,000+ and was full of scratches and dents. It was also not clean on the outside. I was told by the counter staff that every new scratch over 1cm would be counted. As a lot of the scratches were not indicated on the document I was given, I asked the person in the car park dealing with drop-offs etc. to scrutinize the car with me. He was very brusque, but eventually did come over to mark on the document all the scratches not mentioned. On the plus side the rental was one of the cheapest, on the minus side, I have never been told that every new scratch over 1cm would be counted, especially on a car where most of the scratches were not even identified. Would try not to use Firefly again. "

It took forever to be served, nobody came out to the car with us, so we had to mark the damage we saw on the car & take photographs - we totally missed a hairline crack in the wing mirror, so had to pay in return. We only used the car to drive from the airport to the hotel, so no chance of damaging it; absolutely rediculous. Never again! "

I was upgraded and got a lovely new Renault Clio with built in Sat Nav that was a joy to drive and a pleasure to sit in. Returning the car was more tricky, no wait but the girl on the counter was very surly and rude when I misunderstood the drop off point, again alone so perhaps very overwhelmed by business. The girls accepting and checking the car were very pleasant and efficient. I would not hesitate to use this firm again despite the waits as the prices and cars are so good. "

Also not on your paper work was the following, that they advise me to return the car clean to avoid a penalty, So the evening before return to airport I washed the car at my hotel havwe never had to do this before with any hire company. " The car itself was good - as was the pick-up process. However, the process of handing the car back left a sour taste in the mouth. A sign at the desk stated that the interior of the car must be "reasonably clean" on its return. We spend a good 15 mins making sure this was the case - even though we'd done little to dirty it during our trip. To then be told that we were being charged because it wasn't clean was - to be brutally honest - a joke. It like a very deliberate and very calculated con. These small things can make all the difference. I've used hire cars countless times before and I've never before experienced this. There's no way we'll be using Maggiore again and if that means we won't be using Auto Europe again, so be it "

This time I only travelled with my Visa debit card and was refused the car. I had to call a friend who lives 50km the other side of Alghero and ask him to come with his credit card, the agent told me I could use this and there would be no extra charge. When my friend arrived I called Auto Europe who made me cancel my contract and take a new contract with my friend as the main driver as we were using his credit card. I was now made to pay an extra £90 because of the new booking. In the meantime I was offered cars from other suppliers with my debit card. Please add Appalled to your ratings list. "
