Where to pick up my car hire at Malaga Airport

There are numerous companies providing car hire at Malaga Airport. It is very important that when making a booking you check the Terms and Conditions for the location of your supplier. Multiple suppliers have their desks within the terminal buildings: in Terminal 2, these desks are located in the basement, and in Terminal 3 they are on the ground floor.

Companies that have their offices outside of the terminal buildings are mostly situated on the Avenida Garcia Morato, the main road leading to the airport. A few companies are also in the Villa Rosa Industrial Estate. These companies usually provide a courtesy bus service from the terminal to their offices. More information on the location of car rental desks and directions can be found in the Terms and Conditions on our booking engine and on your voucher.

    Terminals

Malaga Airport consists of three terminals, located next to each other. Terminal 1, however, no longer operates flights. In Terminal 2 (named Pablo Ruiz Picasso Terminal), you can find the arrivals lobby and baggage reclaim carousels on the ground floor, whereas check-in desks and security check are on the first floor. Boarding gates are on both floors. Terminal 3, the newest and largest of the terminals, similarly has the arrivals and baggage reclaim on the ground floor, and check-in and security on the first floor. Boarding gates are on the first and second floors, and information desks can be found on the ground and first floors.

    Airport Facilities

The facilities at Malaga Airport will not leave you wanting. Terminal 2 provides shopping opportunities on the ground floor and first floor, and restaurants on the first floor. If you require currency exchange services or internet access, you can find these on the ground floor. Terminal 3 boasts a large selection of shops throughout the terminal, and cafes and restaurants on the first floor. The ground and first floors also provide other amenities, such as currency exchange desks, ATMs, and internet access points.

How can I get to and from Malaga Airport

If you are heading straight towards Malaga city after picking up your rent a car at Malaga Airport, you can simply drive along the MA-21 (Av. Velazquez) for six miles, and you should get to the city centre in about 15 minutes. Driving in the other direction on the MA-21 will get you to Torremolinos, located less than five miles from the airport, in just over ten minutes. Farther away, 15 miles from the airport, is Fuengirola, which you can reach via the AP-7 with a drive of approximately 20 minutes. Continuing along the AP-7, you could also drive 32 miles to Marbella in about 35 minutes. More tips on driving in Spain can be found here.

There are two main ways to get to Malaga using public transport. You can make the journey by bus: the A Express Line (Line 75) will get you to Malaga city in about 15 minutes. The bus stop is located on the ground floor of Terminal 3, and tickets can be purchased on board with cash. Alternatively, the C1 suburban train line, operated by RENFE, runs between the suburban train station at Terminal 3 and central Malaga every 20 minutes, with a travel time of 12 minutes. Entrances to the suburban train station can be found outside the Terminal 3 arrivals area and in the departures forecourt.

    Parking Tips

Finding street parking in Malaga can sometimes be difficult. The city operates a rather aggressive policy of ticketing and towing illegally parked vehicles. If you find a parking space, make sure that parking in it is allowed and find out what restrictions there are. There are, however, lots of car parks dotted around the city, where you can leave your car rental with peace of mind. For example, Alcazaba Parking is located close to many of the main sights, such as the Old Town, Picasso's birthplace, and the Alcazaba, and Parking Centro is near the RENFE train station.
