We thought this was the easiest part of our holiday and on return filled in an Avis ratings form with a very good report only to find later that day on checking my online bank, Avis have an extra £121. 42 pending transaction due out?? We paid with Auto Europe in full before we left. Nothing has been said to us from Avis regarding this extra cost and no reply to emails=hence we are still in limbo with this and Auto Europe are looking into it for us. On research Avis seem to be very good at adding extras on without any information to the customer? According to Trip advisor and other travel sites. I would say to others- book with care and be wary. Two days prior to departure Avis phoned us twice to request further information-driving license number etc , but at no point mentioned any extra charges. Similarly, upon pick up the Avis counter clerk made no mention of any extra charges . For what reason do I only discover this when checking my bank account? I am most dissatisfied with this particular car hire experience and I await a response and clarification from Avis and Auto Europe . "

" My experience of the car hire was fine. My experience of AutoEurope's excess damage insurance was not so good. After submitting the documents it took them about 5 weeks to refund the money. Also, they didn't follow my instructions to refund the money to my euros account (the refund was in euros), so I received much less than I originally paid (I had to pay exchange fees and the euro had depreciated substantially over the 5 weeks). "

I cannot understand why this wasnt in the headline price from Avis and Auto Europe as I asked for the rental to be collected from and returned to Munich Airport. If this is my booking why would you understate the hire charge to get my custom and then add this fee at the end of the rental? During the booking and the collection process, this charge was not mentioned once. I have another hire in a month via Auto Europe / Avis at Munich and in advance of that would like a response on this charge, why it was levied and if my next hire will be subject to the same additional charge. " Avis experience was poor. Check in was very slow, Avis had two staff on and a queue of 8-10 people waiting to collect vehicles. They were taking 15-20mins to process each rental with a long and tedious upsales process which delayed and infuriated all in the queue. When I finally got the front I then had to ensure the same including trying to upsell me GPS (the car had GPS fitted as standard). This is so outdated a practice it is laughable, Avis are just embarrassing their desk staff by forcing this process. The worst element came at the end of the hire when I was charged an additional Eur 20 for hiring the car from Munich Airport. " I'd already made payment for rental on arrival and was sold something else where I felt lost in translation. So a £90 rental turned into a £350 rental. When I arrived the car oblivious of how much I'd spent and trying familiarise myself with the country and driving, 10 mins into my journey I'd realised there was only half a tank of petrol and a warning light I didn't recognise to which I later worked out was concerning tyre pressure. Having returned the car with correct tyre pressures and a full tank of petroleum and a handful emails this is the first response to my over paid rental nightmare. " The first person who we saw over the counter was very professional and helpful. However, the experience of receiving the child car seat was extremely negative and frustrating. Even though we pre booked it, the person was not able to assist us at all. The car seats were very dated and we weren't provided with any instructions on how to adjust the seat. Nowadays all car seat have isofix which makes adjusting the seat very straightforward. However, the car seats we were given were old and they didn't have isofix. The first one we received was broken, the second one did not have the right adapters we needed and the third one took us an hour to adjust due to lack of instructions. The unhelpful person behind the desk said it was not his issue and he was not allowed to help out, but didn't provide us with instructions wither. That is a safety breach as all manufacturers have a different system and not having the right instructions puts the child at risk. He was rude and could not have been less helpful. When asked if he could ask someone else in his team he refused and left the office. We spent quite some time looking for instructions online as we couldn't even see the model name and it was a very time consuming and frustrating experience which could have been avoided. "

" The car choice it's a joke, I went for a WW Golf or 'similar' and they offered me a Kia Venga ! The size of a Fiat 500 no more. In the end i Went for a the peugeot which was all right but still not a Golf. The woman at the counter said she can give me a good price for a Tiguan, like she had the power to give me an incredible deal and thought that was not very professional. She said i can have it for 25 or 26 euros a day extra. This just makes me think that this is a scam they give you bad 'similar' cars so you go and upgrade for '26 euros a day' plus the insurrance of course. Anyhow, I think it was a rip off. The only good think though is returning it. Really easy to find on maps, really fast they don't make you wait and mess about. "

I declined the offer of hire, but dont think I should have been even asked the question when Avis knew that I didnt need one. Despite advised on the booking and at the desk that I was taking the vehicle to Austria I was not advised that Austria operates a motorway vignette system, which would have been easy and very helpful. we were stopped by a police checkpoint just after the border clearly set up to check for this as people enter Austria and were fined Eur120 by the Austrian police. I had to do this because nobody processed the drop-off location amendment and was running late with no gas station nearby.....I've been renting cars for more than 10 years and never had such a bad experience! we found out about the fuel price when we dropped-off the key and a lady mantioned this to us, pointing that she always makes sure the clients know ! The only down side is you can sometimes wait quite a while on the phone before you get through, so that could be improved by a fair bit to be honest. " We did not go with Avis, due to poor reviews I changed with you to Sixt. They were brilliant. I can't comment on Avis but I am so glad I went with Sixt. Brilliant car, free upgrade smooth transfer, took about 10minutes max to be in car and on my way. Would use them again for sure. I did upgrade to zero excess at 13 euros a day. For me it's worth it it for total peace of mind and they didn't hard sell me it. "

" I was ignored by staff since I have began rental period I have phoned auto Europe on 15.07 at around 7pm spoken with customers service person and was told someone will contact me with relation to swapping car for car I wanted I will never book through auto Europe and I will speak with my solicitor and take this matter further as it was not met conditions agreed on rental by rental company "
" Very disappointing experience. I have approached Avis desk and got told that car I have booked is not available due to high demand. I have booked Mercedes vehicle and got Peugeot. Ordering Mercedes you would expect either Mercedes,bmw or audi,which normally happens when not available Definitely Peugeot is not same class as cars mentioned. I had to experience issues with car mainly due to lack of knowledge this low class cars,which I have never drove which I have mentioned to the assistant on Avis desk and he said I cannot cancel my reservation even though there was no car I have reserved well few weeks before rental has started and it could be well planned by rental company. Car was not fully refuelled,which was passed on to Avis desk as well as the fact that menu on dashboard was in French or Italian and I was unable to change language as well as set radio or sat nav. I had 2 year old child with me and I was unable to turn off passenger airbag as there was no key. There was no liquid for windscreen wash. It was absolutely ridiculous and I have made phone call to auto Europe straight away before I have left Avis car park. Someone was to contact me and I was not contacted at all. "
