" The first car offered - a Citroen C3 - proved to be not acceptable as the plastic front bumper was upon inspection detached on the driver side (and the AVIS team were unaware of that til we pointed it out), The second car provided was - an Opel Corsa - was notably older (with over 11000 km on the clock, despite being on a small island...) with numerous scratches etc, and the fuel gauge was faulty, showing 3/4 full buy we were assured it was a fault not a part-empty tank. However when we came to fill the car before return the gauge went to the full mark, but the desk said that fault was intermittent and that the 15litre of full was compatible with the 200km we had driven! We have no way of knowing if that was the case. All in all, we felt we had been placed-off with a 'Budget' car rather than the 'Avis' car we had booked and paid for. Secondly, Avis desk said that as we had booked through yourselves, rather than direct, we forfeited the Avis Preferred Plus bonus of a free 2nd driver - and were therefore charged an extra €20 for the 4-day hire. PS We had arrived early to pick the car but the Avid desk declined to allow to bring the hire period - pick up and return - by an hour, claiming he hadn't received the car back yet, despite several cars sitting on the letting bay. All in all not the level of service expected from Avis! "

They can't refund anything and cannot make any exception even though I've paid to hire the car for the whole week anyway. We ended up hiring from a lovely lady at Hertz car hire (next door to Avis at the airport) and it ended up being a cheaper price than we originally paid anyway. Very poor customer service "

" I have used Autoeurope for years and the service is always excellent. As it was this time. They provided the cheapest options however, the reality was different on arrival at the airport. My experience with Avis was awful but I do not hold Autoeurope responsible for this. Unfortunately I will have to think twice about using Autoeurope in future due to this experience. "
" I went with Avis as I had a bad experience with a previous car hire. I paid twice as much than going with a lesser-known firm thinking that they would be more professional and provide me with peace of mind. This was our first trip since my 4yr old son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes two years ago and I needed this trip to be a positive experience. After a delayed flight we arrived late at Thessaloniki Airport. My son's condition means that we must monitor his blood glucose levels constantly and medically treat him whenever required as his condition means if he is not treated immediately, it can be fatal. Our delayed flight landed approx. 23:45 because of the delay. We had been travelling since 10am. My son required medical treatment on landing. We also had to wait until the last people had picked up their luggage as our child seat had been misplaced. I wasn't concerned about the car hire as I had chosen Avis above others because they were open past midnight and they had asked for the flight number on booking. When we got to the desk for Avis - not in the Terminal building I had been led to believe and the signage was terrible - It was midnight. The gentleman behind the desk immediately tried to upsell me to a larger car which wasn't very pleasant. We were tired, concerned for our son and had a 4hr drive ahead of us. The Avis Counter Staff continued to run through the contract seemingly annoyed it was booked through Autoeurope. Nothing was very clear, and he seemed irked that I wasn't taking their insurance products which I'd booked through Autoeurope. By the time we got to payment he then informed me there would be an extra charge due to the time of collection being past midnight!! It was six minutes past midnight, and we had already wasted so much time trying to be upsold! I was perplexed as to why there would be an extra charge. They knew there had been a delay. I tried to explain having to wait for our luggage and how we had to treat our son but none of this seemed to matter. Avis seemed only interested in getting more money out of me that what I had already paid Autoeurope. We ended up in quite a row which upset my son and I ended up having to pay the extra as otherwise we were all stuck in Thessaloniki airport 4 hours from where we needed to be. He ranted that the desk should have been closed (contradicting what was on the Autoeurope website when I booked) slamming down a sign on the desk. He continued to rant about me having to complain to Autoeurope if I had any issues. I needed to remove my family from the situation as everyone was getting upset. I was with a party of 4 other families. All of whom had booked through other companies. None of them were charged extra for arriving after midnight. None of them were pushed into upsell - in fact all of them were given cars from the higher bracket!! I couldn't believe the treatment I received from Avis. I agreed to the payment and asked for the car to be readied quickly asking the Avis member of staff to stop arguing with me. We took the car and got on our way. The car was fine until the day we were returning. Out of all the four cars we hired mine was the one that experienced a puncture. The tyre had split and there was no spare in the car. The puncture repair kit was completely unsuitable. I ended up having to use the emergency line to organise rescue. Whilst this happened the communication was difficult and if our flight home had not also been delayed, we would have likely missed this flight. As it was, we got the car returned and the hand back all went ok. The final bill was higher than I what I booked through Autoeurope which I found annoying. Overall, I won't be using Avis ever again. It was such a disappointing experience when I was expecting the exact opposite. Everyone else had a wonderful experience, enjoying bigger and better cars whilst paying half of what I did. I had a very upset family all of whom still mention the angry Avis employee. When we returned to the airport my son did not want to go into the airport as he recognised it from the week earlier being a such an upsetting experience. I've been a loyal customer of Autoeurope for several years. Sadly, this experience will inevitably make me question using them again. Not through any fault of Autoeurope but because of the difficulty it caused using a third party and having Avis use that to wiggle out of any responsibility "

I then I had a very frustrating email dialogue as Avis were trying to bill me for a new booking cost of £839 - this cost was eventually returned on 12 July. But then on 19 July I noticed that I had been billed £792 by Avis - after another email dialogue this was eventually credited back on 20 July "

At first I assumed I just needed to buy some AdBlue but as the faults escalated, I became more concerned. When the office was once again open I phoned and was told that a replacement car would be organised for the next day. That didn't happen and I spent all the next day of my holiday essentially trapped in the hotel believing that I could not use the car. The next day I phoned the office again and on probing discovered that there was no replacement car, but that I could ignore the serious engine fault message. So, really not a great experience with Avis. Avis won't be anywhere near my first choice next time. Oh, and then, this week I received a letter saying that the office failed to take part of the hire car payment. I have now paid that charge by BACS. All in all not a great experience. "

" I had taken the full insurance to make sure I wouldn't have any unexpected costs during my stay. Two days before drop off I had a flat tyre which someone came to change but didn't put new tyre and put the spare tyre instead. As a result I couldn't do anything the last day as I didn't want to drive with no spare tyre (especially with the road conditions in Mykonos). When I gave back the car the lady who checked it told me I might be charged for the flat tyre and I had to argue to explain that I specifically asked if tyres were included in the insurance when I took it. She told me her manager would decide if I get charge or not which I find unacceptable when you sell an insurance to your customer mentioning everything is covered and confirming even the tyres when I specifically ask. After 20 minutes of discussing I was finally told I wouldn't be charged but that was a very unpleasant experience. "
