" As requested by Avis I took the trouble to pre-register prior to pick up on the basis that the actual pick up would be quicker and easier, that didn't happen, pre-registration didn't appear to make any difference at all. When I dropped off the car the Avis system was down so I had to accept a hand written note. I was surprised to be told that despite to car being in good condition my deposit (over £1,000) would not be released for 2 weeks! "

" The key USP for me of the AE service (which I have used several times previously for holiday car hires in several countries) is the inclusive policy for the refund of any damage excesses - I have never had to make use of it, but it offers great peace of mind and eases the collection process greatly, and I have mentioned to numerous family and friends. "
" Collection and return both took longer than we had hoped for - not least because when we had had the car OK'd after the rental period, we were also called back in to the office as 'the system' had not apparently recorded the credit card details or email address given when picking up the card (despite the rental agreement safely arriving at the e-mail address almost immediately). We had to give both again in order for the c€1900 're-authorisation' to be released from the card. I was promised a speedy e-mail confirming that had been done, and the value of the 2nd driver charge, but even almost four days later, no email has arrived and checking my credit card online nothing shows regarding the 2nd driver charge. The car itself was in fair rather than good condition. The numerous scratches and dents were well noted as we picked it up, but the odometer showed over 34,000km despite the small size of Malta - together suggesting a car that was several years old and what one might expect from Budget rather than Avis, but for which we paid Avis rates. When collecting the car I was advised that the 2nd driver charge is waived for Avid Preferred member and, whilst I had registered as such in November 2021, the office could find no record of it on 'the system'. For information, my Preferred Customer Number is 8FN93V - sadly I did not have it with me and so was charged for the 2nd driver. Might you be able to rectify this? "

" Interior of windscreen filthy and greasy. Fuel gauge faulty, and showing 3/4 full on collection when paperwork stated 7/8 full. I was then charged for a whole tank of fuel in spite of filling the tank within 2kms of returning the vehicle( fuel gauge only showed half full after filling). I explained the situation to the counter clerk and told her that I did not want to see any charge for fuel to which she 'nodded' agreement. My credit card had 44 euros deducted after return to the UK, in spite of the original agreement providing fuel on a full to full basis. "

" Okay, but very confusing re online check in. I got 2 emails requesting me to do this... one from Avis, one from Auto Europe. I then phoned Avis, and spoke to a rep who told me that the online check in DID NOT WORK !! and to delete it immediately, or it would mess up my drop off. Luckily I did not follow her advice, but completed the one from Avis direct. This did work. "
" At Malta (Luqa) Airport, Valletta, the new offices are located in a building called Park East. You do not inform customers of this at all.. it is a very long way indeed to have to walk with luggage, especially late at night, in pouring rain, in the dark. No signage. No information. My car was damaged. Otherwise in good condition. "

" The vehicle provided had numerous scratches and marks. the vehicle broke down twice, once with gear box problems and secondly because it refused to start and had to be towed away and replaced. The replacement [same model] ran much smoother so we had been given a duff car. "

" Car in a poor condition looking very second-hand although it was very clean. Would not tickover evenly when airconditioning on. Three emails to Avis at Luqa re return time were not responded to. By contrast the man In the Car park from whom car was collected from and returned to was charming and friendly. It's also a shame that autoeurope do not continue to act as one stop contact throughout hire period. Clearly directing your clients to local companies does not work with Avis at Luqa! "
