" I have used Goldcar before at other airports and they were very good but the service in Bilbao was very poor. The shuttle bus took such a time, over an hour, to pick us up, we had to hire an airport taxi. The actual pick up process was quick and the car excellent. Return was again very poor. The staff initially claimed we had damaged the car, around the top of the wheel arch but it was impossible to see and ,in any event could not have been done without further contact being obvious. When I said that, they changed their mind and no claim was taken. Again the office was busy, seemed short of staff and the wait for a shuttle back to the airport was far too long. Although the price of the car was very competitive I will not be using Goldcar from Bilbao again. "

" Where to start!!! The receptionist was extremely rude and made my children (7 & 9) cry. This was their first experience of being abroad and after an excellent flight, this experience was a real come-down, especially as they were in Spain to represent their country in a dance competition. On all the documentation we have from AutoEurope (our hire voucher), the opening hours of Drivalia are stated as open until 8PM, in spite of this and you/Drivalia having all of our booking details, I was met with a confrontational member of staff who insisted they were only open until 5PM and we therefore had to pay an out of hours collection fee of €40. You state that it is not possible to make a booking outside the hours of operation on the AE reservation system. If this is the case, there is a discrepancy between you and Drivalia and you should not have accepted our booking. I acknowledge our flight was delayed by around 20 minutes, however we still arrived well before the 8PM closing time on our voucher and I had made several phone calls to AutoEurope to keep you updated of our journey progress. At no point from booking until arriving at the pick up was I told that the booking was out of hours and therefore I would like to be refunded for a charge levied on me which is your error for not having updated supplier details on your system and therefore accepting our booking times when you should not have. Further to this, when paying the €40 fee, there was no issue with the payment on my credit card being made with chip and pin. I had decided not to opt for the insurance on offer and instead allow Drivalia to block €2,000 on the same credit card mentioned earlier. Upon attempting to place the block on my card, the member of staff told me the block had been declined, despite having a £4,000 credit facility. She "tried" again and once more before aggressively telling me that I didn't have enough credit available or that there was a spending limit on my card (which there is not). At this point, with the first transaction having taken place without issue, I rang my UK banking provider, who informed me that they could see all transactions/attempts and that no spending limit was on my card. They advised me that Drivalia were not putting the block through as a chip & pin request, but rather as a card signature confirmation and that they had to place the transaction as a chip and pin transaction. The member of staff, once again rude said "i've done nothing different" in spite of my bank confirming on a number of occasions that they can see the transaction type was incorrect. Finally, threatening to shut the branch, keep the car and leave myself and my family stranded on a Sunday evening in Bilbao, 50 minutes from our accommodation, gave me no choice but to buy insurance at €150. This behaviour was absolutely abhorrent and fraudulent/mis-selling. Being put in this position made me feel intimidated, threatened and with little choice other than to pay in order to protect my family. You should be absolutely ashamed of the behaviour of this provider. Having agreed to pay the €150, this oddly enough was paid on my credit card (despite me wanting to pay on a different card) using chip and pin... Yes that's right, another transaction that took place using chip & pin, I find it very hard to believe that only the crucial €2,000 block which also needed chip and pin was the only transaction which could not take place. While AutoEurope are just a broker in this matter, you have a duty of care to ensure your partners are operating to a high standard, they ultimately carry your reputation on their shoulders and as things stand you can rest assured that I will not only never use Drivalia again, but I will also never use AutoEurope again either. My expectations in this situation are for you to not only make good for the €40 out of hours fee as this is clearly an error on your systems, but also make good on the €150 insurance that I was frankly bullied into buying/mis-sold. "

" Due to problems with Drivalia called Auto Europe. They contacted the Madrid office and were surprised Bilbao was closed. They advised me to call at 7am the following morning to sort it out. I rang at 9am Spanish time (8am UK). There was no answer. Tried a few more times. Then thought I would try Drivalia. They were open. I explained the situation and they said I could come over. Luckily it was 10 mins walk from the Holiday Inn Express. They made me take out a new contract and pay an additional 144.90 euros to be fully insured for 5 days. I thought I had already paid extra insurance to Auto Europe. While, not happy, I actually wanted to get the Holiday started, rather than spend hors arguing. I then received a battered Ford Focus. Was told not to worry as the insurance covered everything. After the 3rd day a warning light came on, but at least it did not break down. Would not recommend Auto Europe or Drivalia "

" Drivalia provided a car without a spare tyre and no means to raise the vehicle to repair a puncture. Drivalia informed me that I needed to pay for a rescue (if needed) and must replace any punctured tyre with the exact same make and model. We managed to temporarily repair the punctured tyre with the help of some locals and obtained an exact replacement tyre, but lost 2 days of holiday in the process. I accept this can happen, but was disappointed in Drivalia's help as it appeared to consist of their demands (for a specific tyre, etc) and not much else. What I found extremely disappointing was that Drivalia said we had to pay €105 to replace the emergency tyre repair liquid we had been forced to use. This is available much cheaper and have to pay a significant surcharge was deeply unimpressive. Drivalia should include a spare tyre and the ability to change it so as to avoid situations like the one we found ourselves in - forced to stop with a bad puncture, on a small mountain road, with no telephone network coverage, late in the day and no means by which to resolve the issue without the intervention of generous local people. "

Attempting to report this vehicle fault to Avis (as per contract) was a nightmare with long delays in answering, repeated transfers of call and no English speaking operatives . " The car was fine. The staff member who checked the car on drop off was one of the nastiest people I've had to deal with. I'd used for the car for a week to visit a friend in hospital who is gravely ill. Despite knowing this the staff member argued that a 1cm scratch (paint chip from a stone probably) was more than 1cm and I would have to pay. It was just ridiculous. We measured it again and again and she argued that at exactly 1cm it was something I had to pay for even though the contract said 'up to 1cm'. She had a choice that day whether to be a kind human or to extort money and she chose the later. Just vile. I would never hire from either company again and will be looking into the legal clauses of my insurance. Shame on Leasys for promoting services like this. "

" Counter staff spoke English and where helpful. The car wasnt cleaned as the staff member didn't show up for work. The car had a waning light on the car display which I didn't notice until I had hit the highway. Im sure they were aware of it as the staff member spent some time in the car before handing over to us. The warning light was for air pressure and it ment we had a front right slow puncher which ment I had to put air in every 3 days. The car rental was good value for money, didn't have to wait to long for pick up and drop of at airport. The contact number on the evoucher was incorrect so that needs to be change. "

" We were a little disappointed when we arrived as Sixt we not keen to give us the small car we rented, saying it wasn't good for where we were going, so they told us we needed to upgrade. They also then said the insurance we bought from autoeurope wasn't good enough and that we needed to get extra. We ended up paying another 300 euros to upgrade and for insurance, which we were not expecting at all. I don't know whether we needed the extra insurance, but they were very convincing. So I don't know where the problem was as I thought I had bought insurance with auto Europe. The whole experience has put me off and I probably won't use either company again. "

" Car provided was the type and size as advertised & with only 8000km on the clock. The only disappointment was the fuel consumption which was very disappointing.(Ford C Max Petrol). I understand that this is not the fault of Dollar but it did make the otherwise faultless experience down slightly. "

Not only were put our lifes at risk whats more we infringe the law. The staff were very understanding and apologetic about it. And we got discounted as we were given a compact category from an economy. I would recommend budget reluctantly and to be vigilant the state of the car. "

European rental car companies need to look at how it works in the US. It took 30 minutes to collect my car and I was only 2nd in the queue ... the process is broken. " My dissatisfaction is rather more with Dollar, who our original booking was with, but as it only covers Enterprise below and as Dollar are your partner, you should have some sway with Dollar. They refused to give us a car because we were a day late, even though the car was booked for a fortnight. You said we had to forfeit our money and pay again, so to get us on our holiday we booked with Enterprise through you. The contract was for car hire for a fortnight, so however late we were, there should have been a car available. We are pursuing this further. Hertz have been a terrible company to deal with before and I don't think you should be dealing with them if they give their customers grief like this. Based on this I can't recommend you. "

They were excellent and confirmed I would be charged a full tank + a service cost if the tank was left a little short of full, so I found a petrol station to top up to the brim. They also checked the car upon retun and confirmed all was in order and there would be no extra charges. This is much better than many places that do not check and you have to worry for ages if they will "find" a scratch. So very happy. "
