" Pick-up was slow due to having to wait for a car to be assigned to me once I had finally reached the front of an already large queue. Staff were polite and friendly however. Car was in a good condition apart from a couple of minor issues that I fully recorded via a video on my phone. My biggest issue was at drop-off. I handed the vehicle keys over and waited for the car to be checked by a member of staff. After a few minutes I was called over to the car and was asked to explain a fairly extensive dent and scratch on the passenger side wing mirror, I explained that the damage was already on the car at collection, to which the response I received was that it wasn't on their paperwork that they had on file for the vehicle. How this damage wasn't on their paperwork was unbelievable as it was by far the largest and most obvious damage on the entirety of the car at collection. Luckily I produced the video that I had taken and after review, the lady admitted that the damage was already present at pick-up and stated that their paperwork would be updated for future customers, before signing off on returning my full 1800 Euros excess deposit. If I hadn't taken that video, circumstances probably would have went in a very different direction. Bad vehicle and documentation preparation by the hire company is an issue for them, not the customer, which led me to think how many times have others been charged in the past for damage that was already present. Always do a full check of any vehicle on receipt, the few extra few minutes it takes, can save a great amount of time and money down the line. "

After over half an hour in a queue we were directed outside to a minibus which took us to the compound - several staff were there manning desks with no one around. We had to wait another half an hour, once checked in, for the car to be prepared, and it was in a poor state. 90.000 on the clock, at least three years old, lots of damage (recorded and not recorded) and not from the car group I expected. (We were offered an upgrade for another £240!!). Car was a pile of junk and had wheel balance issues (probably from the damage on both passenger side wheels) meaning it shook severely at motorway speeds, the rear parcel shelf was also broken badly and blocked rear view unless you pushed it down from rear seat. Long story short - after 1 visit to the Limerick branch, and 2 to Shannon airport the next day, the car was finally swapped for one in an acceptable condition. Guys in Limerick and Shannon most helpful. Replacement car was very good, but the first one should never have been rented out. "

" Pickup and drop-off where conducted by Europcar. Pickup was atrocious. Our contract indicated pickup at the airport. When we arrived at the counter we had to wait 10 min to be seen by a rep who immediately sent us to catch a shuttle to an off airport site. We waited 25 min for the shuttle. On arrival at the site there was only one rep helping customers and we were fifth in line. Each customer took about 20 min to process Luckily a second rep appeared to help out. In total we waited 70 min to be served and another 20 min to be processed. Was it necessary for the rep to enter my address, phone number and date of birth - this information was provided when the car was booked it should have only been necessary to check these details. In our contract we were to pay a 1500 euro insurance deposit but the rep asked for 1800 euros. As a compensation for our wait we were provided with an upgrade and return to the airport. On return to the airport there were NO signs directing us to the return location. We did two approaches to the airport before returning the car to the off airport site, again delaying us, the time by 45 min. "

This was because the attendant was getting quotes for an older driver to cover excess insurance which we didn't want or need as I have separate annual cover for this. He could have saved himself and us a lot of time if he had asked me if I needed this first. "

At counter in Dublin airport, advisor said they could only accept credit card in the name of the named driver. My wife didn't have her credit card with her, only a debit card. She was told if she used a debit card, the cost of the rental would more than double from £20 to £47. I had the credit card that was used on the booking, but they wouldn't accept that as it was not in her name. I had to add myself to the booking, which doubled the cost of the booking, meaning a 24 rental increased from £20 to more than twice that price. Not the end of the world, but if a card is accepted at the time a booking is made, it should be accepted at the counter. If the counter staff won't accept a credit card that is not in the name of the named driver, that should be made clear at the time of booking or, better still, don't accept a credit card that is not in the name of the named driver at point of sale. The gearbox went in the car, over 2 weeks ago and I had to chase them this morning for an update and to see if they had an independent review as suggested.I was visiting my dad who was dying in hospital. " Very disappointed with the car park pickup opposite T1 at Dub. The car was parked so tight to the adjacent cars I could not open any of the doors! I had to crawl through the boot through the back seat to get to the drivers seat. Even with both mirrors folded inwards moving out was extremely difficult. There was very limited lighting so once I had bought the car forward I had to do the pre-check with a torch. I do not consider the extremely limited lighting and the restricted access as acceptable for a company I have used many times previously. This car was only USB C comparable so I was unable to use my standard iPhone charger that I have used before. Unfortunately my iPhone ran out of power before I got to my destination. Overall I am very satisfied with your customer service but on this occasion I feel that these issues has Not been up to your usual standards. "

" Overall very good. Just to correct location for hire vehicle desk and pick up is outside the entrance gates and not in the terminal as stated. It is only a short walk of 100m but it is a diversion if you go to the terminal desk that is still marked up with a sign redirecting you. The vehicle had minor but unsightly accident damage hence the 8 score. Otherwise Carhire/Europcar provided a very good service. My deposit has yet to be returned but hopefully that will be done very soon. "

" Carhire in Knock seems to be part of Europcar and the car was collected from the Europcar agency at Knock Airport The car had not been properly cleaned (empty bag of crisps on floor) or prepared. In particular the gear knob came away from the gear stick ( very dangerous) and the tire pressure warning light came on even after ensuring pressures were correct. My biggest complaint however was I got ripped off because Europcar/Carhire considered I brought the car back with new damage. We inspected the car before driving away but did not notice the damage which comprised about three very superficial scratches a few inches long to offside front wing. I took pictures of the car before we drove it and they did not show the damage which was very difficult to discern visually- unlike several other dents and damage to the car which were recorded and which we confirmed with our photos. The Europcar/Carhire rep immediately went to the so called new damage and did not inspect any other part of the car suggesting to me they knew the car had these superficial scratches before I drove it. I was not involved with any accident and had no recollection of any event that could have caused them. They deducted euro630 from by credit card which is ridiculous given the superficial nature of the damage - eg no dents. The scratches would be removal with T Cut in my view. I had separate cdw insurance ( so am not out of pocket assuming my insurance pay up) and I suspect the fact I did not take out Europcar cdw was a factor. I will never hire from Europcar/Carhire again and would not recommend them to anyone else. Rip off artists! I have used autoeurope for many years and have always had good experience altho I have not as far as I can recall ever had an Europcar car. "

" Change of policy on payment for M50 Toll not communicated and so I spent an hour speaking to staff at the M50 Toll who told me I could not play as the hire company had blocked the payment. I then tried ringing AutoEurope customer services but no response. When I dropped off the car I explained to be told the payment was now made by Auto Europe following a change of policy but there was an admin charge on top! This seems very sharp practice to me and very disappointing. In terms of condition of the car it had clearly been smoked in prior to us having it (we are both none smokers) and so we had a week of a car that smelled of stale smoke. In addition the car tyre sensor kept displaying and when I checked the tyres the Front were uneven and overinflated and the rear were both correct. I corrected the pressures but despite this the warning light would come on and off intermittently . This was reported when I dropped the car off. "

" It wasn't my favourite car hire I have to say. I found the man at the rental desk very indifferent. Not exactly rude but not friendly. He told me, not asked me, that he was taking an amount from my credit card to cover full insurance but I informed him that I had a separate policy. The deposit amount still hasn't been refunded to my card four days after returning the car. In the past this has been done straight away. I wasn't informed about the lane tracking on the car which I found very scary before I learnt what it was and thought that something was wrong with the car, resulting in a very slow anxious drive. The tax disc on the car was a month out of date. However the return was very easy and the gentleman I dealt with very polite. "

Overall took 3 hours from picking up luggage to getting car. When I returned the car they claim a chip on the windscreen was my fault, there were already 2 holes in the windscreen. " Staff lovely but there was a long queue to collect car. I was going to a funeral. People let me in t the middle of the queue. The man before me had waited an hour. As the plane was delayed and then the car was delayed we missed most of the funeral. There were 2 people on the desk and many waiting, I guess because they were the best value. They must know who is arriving and therefore need more staff. I have not had this experience before. I guess I might pay a bit extra next time and get one of the other car hirers "

" Our flight was late and no car at airport. The europcar rep at desk said our car was gone as we should have been there at 10-20pm. Our flight, if on time, would have got us to desk about 11.30. we spoke to airport rep day before about arrival time and was told ,no problem just call if you're late arriving. Desk clerk tried to fob us off with different car at more than twice original price, we declined, and spent night in airport with no seating or source of food. At 5.30 next morning we went to second desk and sorted out car, this rep was trying to sell insurance by putting frighteners that the 1500 euro holding deposit will be taken in full for even minor damage. A horrible experience and would never use them again. I think we are due proper compensation, not just the days rental "

" The service was great from staff at the counter. Car was in great condition. Chip in windscreen to the left/ centre not in drivers vision but apart from that was immaculate. Once started the car all worked fine & no issues. Easy to refuel "

This wasn't an issue but did add time on that I wasn't expecting and lucky didn't impact the day apart from the end where I was cut a hour short as I had to factor in the return of the car & any paper work that might need completing as well as the wait for the shuttle service. Around 8 people was already waiting but luckily we managed to get in the shuttle together and didn't have to wait for the next one. "

" When we filled the car with petrol it became apparent that, despite the fuel gauge showing it as full when we collected the car, it cannot have been as we do this journey all the time and know how much the fuel is likely to cost. I reported this at the desk but have heard nothing back as yet. Your representative told us that we should have photographed the fuel gauge before departure but this gad never been asked for before and anyway would have served no purpose. We only used the car to get home and back, which was 162 km. We had to put in 15 litres of fuel. This means that we would have had to use almost 1 litre for every 10 km. We drive slowly as well and, looking up how many miles that particular car expects to do per litre found it to be between 15 and 20kms This has never happened before. "

" The computer system went down whilst we were trying to get our car, which isn't the fault of the counter staff - but did make us late for our meeting. And then Clodagh also tried to make out that we were getting the SUV as compensation for having to wait so long to get the car. She was really lovely and I'm sure she is told to do this by her manager but I was hiring the car for business on a budget, not leisure and perhaps she should have picked up on this after we politely declined the upsell the first time. " I found the upsell from the Clodagh at Europcar a little on the heavy side - she wanted me to purchase further insurance when I had already bought full protection and upgrade to an SUV for an extra €20 a day which is double what I had already paid for a Ford Focus. Then after I had declined, she had to give me the SUV anyway as they had no Focus automatics in stock. I'd have preferred for her to confirm the Focus was available at the very least before trying to upsell me to something else. "

However, when I got to the handler's (Europcar) desk, I was told that I only had third party cover -- or at least only third party cover from them. They said that if anything happened to the car, they would charge me up to £1500 and I would then need to claim it back from you. They said it would take ages. So, under the circumstances, and they pressure they put me under, I ended up taking out cover all over again -- to value of around a further £75 (for three days). In my view, this is a disgraceful practice -- a real con job. The person I dealt with told me that she hears this complaint all the time. And yet this manipulative practice continues. "

As I flew in to attend a 2pm wedding I purposely hired a car from the terminal to which I was informed it was at the base and would need to take the shuttle bus adding so much time to our journey and putting us under pressure to arrive in time for the wedding. The staff said that the outside provider should not have allowed us to book a terminal pick up. When dropping off the car on return in perfect condition and with a full tank of petrol the staff member said that there were two areas of damage and that we would need to pay for this. I said that I took a video on my phone when I picked the car up and she changed her tune straight away, I proceeded to show her the damage on the video which they had not marked. " Had a puncture in one tyre, on the return to the airport at 6am. The AA number on the rental agreement was INVALID. So that was a scam. Had to abandon the car. Europcar charged for the replacement of TWO tyres, a full tank of petrol even though I had filled the tank, and four days extra rental plus compensation. Europcar has no contract with the AA so there was no chance of getting help outside of office hours. They use only a local garage. No one picked up the phone at the Europcar unit at the airport. In fact when I arrived by taxi and explained the situation, no one seemed to know how to handle the situation. I ended up going through airport security with the car keys. You would think they would have asked for the back! While boarding the plain I received a nasty phonecall from from an employee called Debbie telling me what they were going to charge me for. As if the whole experience wasn't bad enough. Following this experience I would never use Europcar again "

" Collection of the car was a bit of a shambles. Firstly a mistake was made in the taking of the deposit and it had to be refunded. The car allocated to me was not ready and I had to wait while it was prepared. When I finally got the car a dashboard sign flashed that it needed Adblue which I reported to the staff. I was then allocated another car which was fine. The second car I was allocated was excellent and the return process ran smoothly, Financially it was good value but the initial collection process was very messy. "

" We were very disappointed when we went to collect the car at Knock airport, we had paid an additional fee, called full damage and protection deal for insurance when we booked, yet when we went to collect the car we were informed that we needed extra insurance we then paid an additional £66.28 at Knock airport, we were not very happy with this as we thought we were covered with the initial fee we had paid on booking. " Unfortunately, my actual driving licence was misplaced the day before the rental in a parcel collection office in the UK. as the rental day was a Sunday I had no way of retrieving it before my flight to Shannon. I had a colour copy of the licence on my phone as well as the DVLA proof of a clean licence. I was refused the hire and there was no way the desk person would entertain any way of providing the car to me, despite the fact had hired a car recently through your selves to that company. They refused me refund and referred me back to you. I phoned you upon my return and was told to go back to the rental company, so I was back where I started from. I accept I did not have my actual licence with me but it was the unwillingness of anyone at the rental company or your offices to even discuss a refund for me. "

" I hired a car in September in Cork and they took a€1500 block on my credit card, I was back in Cork In October about 30 days later and I couldn't do the €1500 block on my card so the only way to get the hire car was to pay the waiver of about £57 turns out the hire car company still had the block on my card, only came off after I complained, so I'm now £57 out of pocket, I'm not happy "

" I was ripped off!!! They charged me for EXTRA insurance which I didn't want nor need because I had already purchased the insurance when I booked my car hire. The insurance cost me twice what the car hire cost. I thought I was signing for a security deposit because Auto Europe sent me an email telling I would have to put down a security deposit. The paper I signed was actually for MORE insurance. This car hire place is a scam. My car hire cost me over $600 for 7 days. "

" Car broke down due to faulty clutch on day 2. Had to accompany AA to Shannon to get replacement car, using up a day of my holidays and inconveniencing friends and relatives. We did successfully request an additional day's rental but the inconvenience was significant for us. Staff were great at Dublin and Shannon. Car voucher said return to Dublin airport Terminal 2 - when checked, drop off was at different location and if we had complied with voucher, there would have been an additional €35. This should not be allowed! "

" To be honest the car I had was a little disappointing, looked scruffy, very noisy, passenger wiper not clearing screen and not very fuel efficient, orange warning light on from pick up, admittedly it may have been a faulty sensor, but the could not compare to previous hire car, VW Polo. " I was told by Auto Europe that a doctor's letter was required due to my age (79). The reception staff said that was not necessary and that they have informed Auto Europe of this but to no avail. I understand that some car hire companies in Ireland do require this letter. My view is that I hold a full UK licence and have insurance for my own car so both the DVLA and my insurer accept that I am safe to drive. My doctor is not really in a position to give a different opinion as I rarely visit him (thankfully). "
