We had to make our own arrangements to get additional transport to our destination and then get transport again back to the car when eventually a repair was carried out. The car had no jack, spare or an emergency way to inflate the tyre. The additional cost that is added for breakdown service that is non existent. "

" We need to understand the inconsistency of information regarding the Gold coverage provided by Auto Europe and that by Alamo in Denver. We believe, we should not have been charged extra insurance cost when we arrived there. "
" Overall, we had a good experience with the car, apart from a few things that I would like to highlight. First, we pre-booked the rental for 14 days from the UK, with all accessories and covers included. We specifically requested and paid for a GPS as we are not familiar with driving in the US. When we came to collect the car we were told that they do not have a GPS to give us and it is always at the discretion of Alamo and not guaranteed at the point of collecting the car, which is different from what we discussed at our end in the UK. We had to unnecessarily argue a lot at the counter that we paid for a GPS, and it's essential for us to have one. Ultimately, we were given a phone-like GPS with a dead battery and no mount. We returned again, and another worker helped and went to get us a mount for the GPS. Because of the dead battery, we kept losing destination information every time we turned off the engine for a break. It was lucky that we had on us a power bank that ended up connecting to the GPS to avoid re-starting it and re-entering the address. Second, we were offered additional roadside assistance at the counter, although we thought we had purchased a full cover in the UK. This cost an additional 128 dollars, which we were not aware we had to pay for it, given that we had already purchased the gold package. We felt pressured to accept and pay, we think we should not have paid this additional cost at all given the coverage we already have. Third, a few days after we collected the car, we had a message on the car to stop the engine and check the coolant level. After calling the roadside service, we were directed to an Enterprise garage in Durango, where they added coolant liquid. We asked them to check the engine oil, they found it was much below the minimum and not safe to drive. The oil change required a few hours' wait as the car needed to be sent to a nearby garage. Given that there was no similar replacement car in Durango airport nor the enterprise branch, we had to wait several hours in Durango until the car was taken to a workshop and returned a few hours later with engine oil sorted. We had to cancel our plans for that day, and we could not visit Mesa Verda as this was the only day we had to do this before returning to work meetings. That particular issue was disappointing, given we parked the car in Aspen for a few days and practically only drove it for a few days before it showed these issues. It was clear that no one had checked these vitals before handing the car to us. We would assume that crucial elements such as the coolant and oil levels had been checked before being given to us in the first place. We reported these issues when we handed the car back, and the person who took it from us said they should refund at least a full day's rental. However, we do not think we have received that at all. "

" Due to late baggage when I arrived at Dollar counter there were only two large SUVs available. I was told I could choose - I chose what I wanted but it was locked and was told the Manager was taking that car home that evening. That left one - broken electric tailgate fitting, cracked windscreen, fuel to only 3/4 full despite paying for a full tank, dent in drivers door. I asked if I could take a medium SUV (lower price bracket and there were plenty to choose from). I was told no I could only take the one car available. The staff were rude and unhelpful - I guess you get what you pay for however this was not a cheap rental. "

" The tried to charge me $50 a day for an upgrade, I said No thank you, I was happy with the car I booked, they kept pushing and in the end they said I could have it for a total of $101.79 for the whole period. And the contract stated estimated total charges $101.79 When I came to return the car they charged me $286.93 automatically which I didn't realised until the card had been charged. They are sharks, they tried to rip you off from the begging. Such a dishonest bunch of horrible people. I think they were trying to trick me from the beginning and in the end they found a way. I went back to their desk and the team leader OMAR said it was an automatic system charge and they would sort it out if I leave my email address and mobile number, obviously they haven't contacted me. I would not recommend BUDGET at all, it is a shame because the car was actually nice and we enjoyed having it. " My voucher said that Dollar was in the terminal, this was not the case and I had to take a bus. The check-in took a very long time, there were two agents working the counter and each transaction took ages. Not always the agents fault of course, but if you know that you have advance bookings then ensure that the counter is adequately staffed. I had booked a Jeep Grand Cherokee (or similar) with GPS and got a GMC small SUV with a portable GPS, not really what was expected. Car was in good condition but not exactly spotlessly clean, which is always disappointing. Return was easy to find but the Dollar station was closed and the signage was not the clearest to say that you need to go to Thrifty to return keys. After waiting 20 mins in the line the guy just said thanks and that was it. Super easy return, but why the wait! "

" Confusion at drop off. I'd booked the car online with yourselves from 6am on the 16th August until approx 16.30pm on the 15th Sept. Alamo wanted to charge me another $84 + Taxes for an extra days rental as they insisted that I should have returned the car at 6.11am (same time as I collected the car). After some discussion the Alamo representitive agreed to waive the extra charge. Apparently their rental periods run in 24 hour blocks, I was not aware of that. "

Therefore we arrived after the Hertz in question had closed and were unable to pick up the car for the first three days! This was not a pleasant start to our honeymoon and we felt very angry that we were left without means of transport. Originally our booking was for 4pm but the form sent by email to us by Auto Europe specified a 6pm closing so at 5pm when we realised that we were running late (our flight was delayed) we called Hertz Stapleton to warn them we were late and were unable to get through to them. We arrived just after 5:30 and they were already shut so there was no way to pick up our car. "

" Although most of the service was good, efficient and friendly this was all let down by one individual working on the Advantage check out desk in Denver. I arrived very late and tired having just flown from London and it was 3 in the morning London time. I just wanted to pick up a car and get to bed as quickly as possible. The person on the desk then suggested an upgrade and various other additional services I had not requested. He indicated this would only increase the cost marginally so I agreed as I wanted to get to bed as soon as possible. When I checked my paper work on the evening of the next day having driven 300 miles that day I saw that the upgrade and extra were costing over $3,000. I then rang your help desk in the USA and they were very helpful and said that if I returned the car and the extras and took the type of car I had originally asked for and the charges would be adjusted. I did this and your staff handled the hand over very well. However this took two day out of my holiday involved me driving an extra 600 miles with all the additional costs on fuel and accomodation. "

" I pre-paid a tank of fuel only to find the car with less than half a tank of fuel. 30 minutes after picking up the car, a low tyre pressure warning and window wash warning flashed. So I had to stop, re-fuel, pump up the tyres and fill screen wash. I also needed to clean the inside of the windscreen as it was filthy. The tyre pressure warning came on every day as the rear left trye had a slow flat. Half way through the rental, I registered a complaint about the above (complaint No: 209425). On returning the car, nobody was aware of the complaint, there was no apology for the condition of the car or discussion about compensation for what was an unsatisfactory experience. There was also no confirmation of whether I would be charged for the fuel that was not in the vehicle. I found the whole experience unsatisfactory. "

" Compared to other organisations that offer the same service as you, I always check the prices on your website because there should not be any additions when you give the car back. Although I had to argue on this occasion that is unusual as previously it has been a simple enough case of handing the key back and when you are on your way home that is all you want to do. Last year I did not use your service (attracted by much cheaper prices but when I got stung with all sorts of charges when the vehicle was returned, I learned my lesson and always look for an inclusive cost. I also like the clear way you present what is insured and what is not - makes comparison real easy and you will be my number one place to look for future hires. "
" Arrived at offices at 18:05. Offices run by Advantage but they did have a small Europcar emblem in the corner. Told by them they were giving me a free upgrade (we asked for saloon they offered SUV). Completed paperwork and went to vehicle to find a massive crack in the passenger side of windscreen and no parcel shelf in the rear (we were traveling a lot and all our possessions would be on show). Returned to desk and they changed vehicle (to Huyundai Tucson and no parcel shelf). returned and queued for third time and they said I could have a Toyota (turned out to be a 7 seater and no parcel shelf). Returned to desk and queued 4th time but demanded a sedan (saloon) as we had ordered. Finally got a Chevrolet Malibu and left the place at 19:58 and it was completely dark. If they had been able to give us this car in the very beginning then my first drive on Denver roads would not have been in pitch black and as rush hour was receding. Not impressed. On the return of the car they had charged for fueling ($47) and a roll toll pass ($179) for the whole 18 days. Argued with manager that the car was returned full and we only used Denver roads for 3 of the 18. In the end they agreed to waiver these costs and I lost an hour of my time and 90 pence in exchange rate fluctuations. I appreciate these maybe small things but when you have been awake and traveling for over 24 hours it does not leave you with a good impression. "

" As the issues we had are with the car hire company we did arrange the car hire through Autoeurope so felt they should deal with the issues. Everybody we spoke to about Advantage told us they were in satisfied with their service and would not use them again. Original quote is cheap but you end up paying more than the larger reputable companies like Hertz or Avis. "
" My experience of the car hire was not a very good. When picking up the car we were told that the car we had booked was not available but not to worry as they would supply me with another car upgrade for 25 dollars. As we we very tired and it was late we agreed. We were also advised to take out a toll fee payment of 10 dollars a day as there was toll roads everywhere on colarado and that every time we entered one we would be charged 25 dollars plus an admin fee. We asked if this was really necessary and they strongly advised that it was. When we went out to collect the car and reading through the contract, the 25 dollars for the car upgrade was in fact 25 dollars per day so an extra charge of 400 dollars. We immediately went back to the desk and told them that we did not want this upgrade as they never explained it was per day. I started to become suspicious and asked again about the toll fee which they still advised to retain. They told us that they would therefore give us the original car, which was strange as they previously told us it was not available. The car was not intact the Nissan that we hired but a slightly larger saloon which we decided to keep as we just wanted to get to our hotel. On checking my account in the morning they had not reimbursed our account for the deposit for the first car and had taken a deposit of over 900 dollars for both cars. We phoned eutoeurope who told us that we would need to take it up with advantage ourselves an advised to go back to see them. We tried to phone Advantage and they would not answer the phone so we ended driving back to the Advantage office to sort it out. There was a massive queue and only two or three desks open so waited over two hours to see someone. We were then told that they would sort out the issue when we brought the car back. We wasted a whole morning of the first day of our holiday to try and resolve our issue. The car itself was fine and had no problems with it for the 16 day hire. When we got back home after the holiday, Advantage had taken reimbursed the deposit but had taken a fee of 200 dollars of our account with no breakdown of costs. This was the estimated amount on the initial contract which included local taxes, although the hire contract with auto Europe included all taxes and fees. I am now in the process of contacting customer services to sort this out. It would appear that Advantage quote a cheap price through autoeurope but make up their costs by selling you extras you just bony need. They have just estimated a charge and deducted it out of our account. All in all this was not a pleasant experience when on holiday and I would be reluctant to hire again through this system. We also discovered we there was only two toll lanes in Denver only with no other tolls in Colarado as we we told there was. We therefore feel we were conned into taking this toll fee out. We did use one toll simply as we had taken out the extra fee but we really didn't need to. "

" Despite my scores above - this part of our holiday needs urgent attention and I request that you look at the paperwork provided to us re the THT Combo, the address and location details and FIND a mention of " THRIFTY" Car Rental. To explain arriving in Denver, we asked the airport shuttle drivers how to get to THT COMBO, hop on the bus and we take you there was the reply...only to discover this is a LARGE slice of real estate on which almost all the car rental providers have offices and property and storage facilities, showing our paperwork to the drivers we were directed to a building and entered and found half of America waiting in a queue to hire a car, airconditioners battling to cope and a wait of about 1.5 to 2 hours to get to a counter, our turn came and our paperwork handed into the staff, after a few attempts with the computer it soon became apparent that we were strangers in this building and were redirected across their lot to another Rental operator called.........Yup u got it Thrifty. Lesson learnt - PLEASE state on your pickup information the name of the rental operator you did the deal through - if we had had THRIFTY or Dollar or AVIS in this box today we feel we would have known exactly where to go, avoided the mass of humanity and lack of air conditioning and a 1.5 hour waste of time wait. Arriving on foot pulling suitcases we enter Thrifty Premises like chalk and cheese difference, we were about the ONLY people wanting a car, in this super aircondioned building, paperwork done, we were told that a Corolla was not available BUT we could take our own choice of any of the "C" Class vehicles on the lot and we were shown where to go, once we had taken our choice, we were free to go and the car would be booked out on exit from the premises. While we cannot fault the service at Thrifty, especially the collection and drop off, including all the staff - I feel a mention is worthy to be noted. Consider, a stick shift, right hand side car driver of 53 years arriving in the USA, confronted with a fairly new Nissan Sentra, left hand Drive - Automatic gear shift, keyless ignition - push button start and we could not drive or start the car, a quick look at the University sized operator manual and we requested help, no problem at all as ALL the staff were brilliant and a few laughs later we were "on the road" - the drop off was easier, we merely drove down a lane, got flagged down to stop, told to put the car into P and we were free to go. - Worth noting - neither at collection or on return was the car visually checked for any damage by any member of staff , we had however taken several photos on our mobiles (just in case) prior to leaving the premises. " Overall, Alamo were very good. My first experience with them was when I called them from the airport in the UK when our flight had been delayed over 2 hours. I was concerned that my reservation would be cancelled. The lady that answered was very polite and helpful and assured me that my car would be there when I arrived. My next encounter was the check-in staff. He was not so good. He was non-smiling, seemed very dis-interested, explained very little and tried to sell me every unnecessary add-on. Some customers could be made to feel that they were making a huge mistake if they didn't buy all the extra cover he was 'recommending'. He seemed quite displeased that I did not accept any of his recommendations. When it came to collect the car, I was given a smaller SUV model, with no GPS, even though i had paid for one, and my paperwork stated so. The staff acknowledged the mistake and worked swiftly to get me the right size, along with a GPS unit, even though they still said they had no indication that I was entitled to one. Still, they were accommodating and I could tell they were there to please. I had researched rental providers and I knew that Alamo had a great reputation, and overall, despite the check in staff trying to sell you the world, I was very satisfied with the service i received and would definitely use them again. " I have sent a note about this car hire. We booked this rental via yourselves thinking it was Europcar. On arrival at Denver it was 'Advantage Car Rental'. We had full insurance including tyres and windscreen cover. We were told there was nothing to pay as we had already paid it all. It took ages to collect our car on 28th July as the first 2 cars offered to us had problems and there were big queues. We were very concerned by the condition and would have gone elsewhere but as we had prepaid we didn't see we had much choice. The first car had a huge gash out the tyre. The 2nd car also had a big gash out the tyre and said it needed a service. I raised my concern with the team leader who said we didn't need to worry as we had full insurance and offered $50 compensation for our wait. I said I just wanted a safe car and he said we had full roadside assistance for free (his name was Syed). He said we didn't need to worry about a thing. On return with no problems, the person taking in the car said we would just get an email receipt. We have now been billed $200 and another $146.21. Please can you dispute these charges and we were told verbally there would be no charges at collection of the car. Syed may remember us as I was so worried about the condition of the cars. This is a terrible car hire company, they are trying to rip us off now having given us a very bad service in the first place. There are charges listed on the agreement but we already had prepaid these and there are often charges listed even though you have already paid them. They said very clearly there was nothing extra to pay. You should seriously consider not using this company, the cars were all in poor condition. I have a photo of the bad tyres and message saying check engine oil from one of the cars they tried to give us. "
