" We have visited Canada a number of times to ski, hiring a car and travelling between ski areas. We have always looked for deals with Winter Tyres included rather than the minimum requirement in much of Canada of M&S level. Winter tyres are more than M&S. In all instances of hire to date the promised Winter Tyres booked have been supplied. In the UK, we purchased carhire for Canada with Auto Europe in July 2024 for a 35 day rental). Previous experience with Auto Europe has been good but sadly not this time. In July 2024 we opted for the product advertised by Auto Europe specifically as there was an offer banner claiming that Winter Tires were included. We checked that this was on the voucher when we booked. This level of tyres were important to us for safety reasons. . Our voucher clearly states 'Your rental includes: .........Winter Tire Fee for rentals commencing Dec.15th – Mar 15th.' {note different dates than the M&S minimum required for much of Canada until 30 April}. At Calgary airport we pointed out that we had paid for Winter Tyres as per our voucher and there was no denial of what the voucher said but instead it was said 'it's all Auto Europe fault' ....'we never provide Winter Tyres on a prepaid'. . . What has amazed us is that any complaint to either Auto Europe or Dollar for over half our trip got the response that we should complain once the rental was over. We didn't want to complain we wanted winter tyres on the car. We tried to reason with Auto Europe several times to no avail and we received many unhelpful messages from them.. We wasted an age trying to get action so we could get a car with Winter Tyres to allow us to do our planned trip. To us this seems absurd as we have a car for 35 days that is not of the safety level booked relevant to the local road conditions, yet no action was taken. We expected action. over half way through our trip Auto Europe suddenly sent a message saying it was their mistake. . We are still awaiting recompense that addresses the error sufficiently. This seems a case of unfair trading practices,. We are very surprised that there is no intention to address this during our 5 week rental leaving us with a vehicle that is not as contractually agreed. our rental has turned out with the failure to supply the very feature advertised that persuaded us to purchase the particular car rental product. "
" When we arrived at Calgary airport the Dollar service desk seemed to have missed out on the service element. There was an issue with winter tyres as below but there was no effort to sort this. It was Auto Europe error but we did not know this until more than half way through our rental. I would have expected Dollar to try and help sort out the problem. There was no getting further in discussion no matter how we tried and we then heard the service desk worker beside us tell another customer that they had no cars with Winter tyres available It does seem that the Calgary Airport Dollar office had very limited cars available. We were given a car that has chips in its windscreen and after only a few Miles showed an oil warning light – there was little oil so it seems it was not checked (and we suspect needed a service). We added oil but expected the cost to be reimbursed - it has not been even though requested. We did try to ring the Calgary airport office to report the oil light but to no avail so we bought the oil. We asked at Calgary airport what we should do if the chips in the windscreen turned to cracks and did not get the courtesy of a reply. As there was a long queue waiting we had no option but to proceed with the car we now have. It seems that the car given to us had not been prepared for a 35 day hire. "

" It took 30 mins to pick up the car and it was not what we booked. We booked a Toyota Camray and were offered a Ford Ecosport, a much smaller car. We took it because we had already waited 30 mins just to get to the desk. The number plate was loose and rattled throughout, there wasn't enough space in the trunk for our luggage so 2 bags had to go on the back seat and it was underpowered. "

" The touch screen did have some problems randomly adjusting ac and some car play did not work. Bit annoying when it randomly decides to blow out hot air or the directions would just freeze and crash but other than that car was great "

" On leaving the airport pick up at 1.30 am and driving on the highway I noticed the car making excessive noise and vibration. I coundnt return to the airport as they had closed after me. I continued to drive slowly and anxiously to my destination about 80 miles away. I contracted Thrifty Dollar and was given a case number 23022339. There was no chance to exchange the car as the nearest Dollar outlet was the Airport. After using thd car very little during my stay and Before returning to the Airport I had the wheels checked got bearing noise but was told the tyres were and possible balancing were the the likely cause. I did not use the highway to return the car but stayed on slower roads. I reported my concerns at the airport but I'm not sure if anyone was bothered. "

" Dollar gave me an electric vehicle which was brilliant, it was a Volvo xc40 recharge. Unfortunately I had to hand it back after a few days because I couldn't charge it; Canadian charging operators would not accept my UK payment details. All the shops and restaurants accepted my money! Dollar then gave me a vehicle that was not to the standard I had paid for which I accepted because I was under time pressure. To be fair to Dollar this may have been the first available vehicle rather than them pulling a fast one. The car did the job. "

" Auto Europe was very easy to use and a good price compared to others we had looked at. Downside was the documentation we received showed the wrong postcode for the pick-up. Luckily we were with a friend that lived local who was able to drive us to the correct pick-up point. "
" We were told they had upgraded nus to a bigger vehicle than the one we requested which was fine, however, we still had to wait about 40 minutes for the car to arrive. Secondly we were told there was 3/4 tank of fuel in the car, but there was only about 1/4 tank. Upside, we were given the car for an extra 1/2 day which suited us best as the airport drop-off was so easy and meant we could go straight from drop off into the airport for our flight. "

" I hired a vehicle from Toronto Airport on the 23rd of August for 11 days till 3rd of September, rental record: 924939956 for a Toyota thunder registration pr69957. On the third of September while returning to Canada from Detroit, our tyre became flat on the motorway 401 eastbound side, at 10:00 (AM). We tried to use all the numbers provided to call for roadside service that was originally paid for, but no one picked up. The numbers I tried calling were: 1-877-466-0992 1-800-654-5060 1-800-847-4389 1-877-608-5784 Then a friend from Toronto called in my place and they did pick up on one of the numbers, and informed them of our situation, and they provided a reference number and a number to call, in order for them to obtain our location. The reference number was 0230331661, and the number we were given to call was 8006545060. I tried calling this number but received no response after attempting to call for an hour. Then the police came, and they also attempted to call the number provided, for more than half an hour, but also failed to get a response. They told us that because we are not safe on the motorway, the police called a tow company to take the car to the nearest tyre repair place. After 40 minutes, the tow company came and said the tyre needed replacing as the rods were damaged. As we had 4 of us in the vehicle, the tow company said they will not take any passengers, so they called a taxi to take us with the tow truck to the Tyre place, which was Costco in windsor, walker road. The tow company then charged us 415.84 Canadian dollars, and the taxi charged us 150 Canadian dollars, and Costco charged us 12.42 Canadian dollars to swap the wheel with the spare. We lost 4 hours in total and I would like my expenses to be reimbursed, which totals out at 578.26 Canadian dollars, which I paid that should have been covered by the roadside policy that was originally paid for. "
