    Driving Information in India

    Driving Licence Requirements

    The driving licence requirements in India state that you must be at least 18 years old and have a full driving licence valid in your country of residence. It is recommended to have an international driver’s licence.

    Age Restrictions

    To hire a car in India you must be at least 23 years old (age may vary by the car hire category) and have held your license for two years.

    • Driving in India is on the left hand side of the road.

    • Seat belts when driving a hire car in India are mandatory in most places.

    • Drivers are to carry at all times while driving, a valid drivers licence, registration documents and insurance documents.

    • Take extra care when driving in the city centre as you will face allot of traffic and have people and animals trying to cross the roads!

    • Petrol stations in India generally open from 7am to 8pm with some stations in major cities open 24hours.

    There is no set rules for parking your hire car in India. We recommend that you use a car park if available, you can also check with your hotel as they may have a car park that you can use, or being able to provide information on India parking.
