" Having lost my booking and not eligible for any sort of refund, I feel really let down by both autoeurope and Europcar at their lack of compassion or empathy. I was told that having a physical licence was in the small print/ conditions of hire and without one my booking invalid. "

" I had hired cars from Europcar in many other countries, but never experience such bad from the Malta division. Firstly, had to wait soo long to get to the counter, and at the counter, they couldn't find my account. Secondly, I have been taken round and round to the car park to find the car, and the guys were unaware of where the car is, however, they should have had the car beforehand. Finally, the counter guy hand over a paper which match the car reg, but all the paper was signed digitally I can't see his computer mention a different car reg number, obviously being a different country you have limited access to your emails, so I couldn't see the actual paperwork, only had to trust what has been handed to me. So the day I came to drop off the car the person can't find the car with the reg number in the day's drop-off list, because I have been given the wrong car by the counter while picking it up. So finally the guy asked me to give him the reservation number to find the information and found I have been driving the wrong car for the whole trip, the guy nicely manages to update the reg info but can't save it as the car was on my name given to someone else. So the overall Europcar experience in Malta is a real mess. "

" To begin with, when we arrived the office was completely shut down due to a power cut and no one could give us a resolution or an estimated time when the issue would have been solved, which was completely unprofessional and extremely annoying, considering that wasted over 2 hours of our holiday on our first day. When we finally managed to get our car, we were unpleasantly surprised to understand that we could not use my Amex, which was the card I used to pay Auto Europe in the first place, and were made to pay over £100 for extra coverage that we did not need, in order to be able to use our debit card. We do not own another credit card and at no point during the booking process was this clearly explained to us. Thirdly, when we called your head office for assistance, we were abruptly told that there was nothing to be done and if we wanted to rent the car we had to pay extra. At this point we requested to be made aware of the complaints procedure and have been completely ignored since. I trust you record your calls and would like to know why this request was not dealt with immediately. Lastly, when returning the car, we were told to simply return the keys and we were not given the option to conduct a check alongside the office. This, once again, is completely unprofessional and we'd like to know the reason for it. I look forward to somebody getting in contact with us by COP this week at the latest or I'll be seeking other ways to take this complaint further. "

Whilst I appreciated that the car would be in that group of vehicles what I actually got was a Fiat Panda, which I could have booked for a lower price. I specifically wanted to avoid the Panda because I know from experience that is is very underpowered. This was certainly the case with the car I received and consequently it struggled with the hilly roads on Malta and Gozo. However, the rest of the customer service was very good. " Poor customer service. I booked and prepaid the car to collect in the morning. We decided to have a walk and lunch before collecting it. I called Europcar locally as a courtesy to let them know but no reply. I called Auto Europe in the UK to ask them to pass on the message. I was told I would lose the booking, that collection more than 2 hours after the booking was not allowed. This was not indicated at time of booking and i had prepaid so should be free to pick up the car when I like. The Auto Europe rep was adamant I would lose the booking. I asked to be transferred to Europcar and was told as was obvious that it was no problem to collect the car later. Auto Europe rep was misinformed and unhelpful. "

" When I booked online,I paid to rent the car and to have insurance cover. When i arrived in malta I had to pay a second insurance as the insurance I paid online did not cover us there. Therefore I would expect the initial cost of the first insurance to be refunded. I am happy to take this further "
" The gentleman on the desk was rude and could not explain why we had to pay the second insurance, only that the first one we paid din't count in malta!!! We then were told we had to pay for a full tank of petrol and not fill it up on our return. I have travelled and driven in many countries and never experienced this before. I think this is a complete farce, as they gain on each rental those who only use a small amount of petrol. "

" Very disappointed in the late arrival fee why ?? & also having to pay for a full tank of fuel in advance which clearly could never be totally used up in the period we rented for. Would have preferred to pay for fuel myself & returned with a full tank, as it was I returned the car with half a tank remaining at my cost ! All of the extra hidden fees were not clearly stated in the original on -line booking. Also the gentleman that served me upon arrival at the Europcar desk needs a crash course in charm school a more miserable dour unhelpful character could not be found in Malta ! :0( Customer service with a friendly smile was not high on his agenda. "
