" On arrival at Fort Myers the Dollar rental agent said the rental vehicle would be a Chevrolet Bolt this is a Compact class vehicle and I had clearly rented am Intermediate Class ( Honda CRV or similar) after some discussion with his superior it was agreed and I was allocated a Regular SUV and obtained a Ford Escape which I was happy with - this was at 23:30 at night after about 18 hours of travelling and I could have done without the hassle "

" We had two issues, firstly the vehicle documentation was well out of date which meant that we were unable to obtain a beach pass from Collier County. The other issue was that we returned the car to the Naples North office after first checking that this was ok and were told that if we returned it before 11 am we would get a refund of a days hire however we have been charged an extra $60 instead. "

" I read the description of the vehicle I was hiring as Chevrolet Bolt Electric or SIMILAR INTERMEDIATE SUV ( which is what I thought I would get) however when I went to the Dollar desk at Fort Myers I was told by the Dollar Agent I could only get an electric vehicle and if I wanted a petrol Intermediate SUV I would need to upgrade at $12 a day - total $357.84 on top of the £844.23 I had paid to Auto Europe - since I had no facilities available to charge and electric vehicle at my rented property I had no option but to accept this "

" Upon arrival we were advised that they 'had no vehicles left as it was a holiday'. They had rented-out the SUV we had booked for 7 people through Auto Europe. After lots of requests and an interesting conversation with a pleasant member of staff they 'found' a 15 seater bus that i had to drive for 2 weeks. This was not ideal at all with a disabled passenger, but was our only option. Not acceptable at all. If you're able to offer an explanation I'd love to hear it. "

" I had just flown with my wife from Aberdeen - London Heathrow - Philadelphia - Fort Myers and arrived at 10:30 pm both very tired - the only vehicle available was a Hyundai Kona ( we normally are able to choose a Ford Escape or Nissan Rogue) and I did know that the Kona was one of the vehicles mentioned on our booking - these however were taken by other customers In order to fit our cases we had to drop the rear seats - even then it was a tight fit but given the time and we were tired we took the Kona Next day I returned to Thrifty - the customer agent was not there and we were dealt with by the Hertz agent who told us the only way to get a larger vehicle was to upgrade which we reluctantly agreed tp at a cost of $35 a day - total an additional $894.60 on top of our original rental cost - reluctantly we accepted this and chose a Ford Edge which was a superb vehicle I feel that we were 'persuaded' to accept this upgrade as the only way to get a vehicle which met our needs - were not offered any alternative within the 'Compact SUV' class "

" All the guy wanted to so was upsell... ignored my spoken preferences and still tried to charge me for Toll Pass... tried to upsell and upgrade and would NOT Gove me a clear total cost for theism instead gave me separate amounts for upgrade, one way fee (already knew about), fuel buy on package (electric)... but when asked total end cost he only gave me like $30.... tried to bamboozler me, so he got no upsell... Was worst experience in years of getting Cars when I get a mix from you and from a direct supplier (Not Thrifty or Hertz!) "

" I think I have shared my experience with the comments above "

" Stood for 0ver an hour waiting to be served. Picked up a Nissan Rogue at Ft Myers. When I got on to i75 the the brakes were grinding and spongy. I drove the car 30 miles to Naples FL which was my destination trying not to brake to much. The next day I returned car to Naples airport and reported brake issue. Staff changed the Nissan for a Ford Escape without any problem. The car seemed ok travelling around Naples as it was only being used to go to the beach and for shopping. On the 19th December had to travel back up i75 to Ft Myers airport to pick up my daughter when this car started misfiring. When I got to the airport I informed Thrifty regarding this problem. No apology was given but but I received another car which took over two hours as they had lost all the paper work for the previous vehicle. I found this totally unacceptable army daughter had just come off a flight from Scotland which took 20 hours. We have complained four times to Thrifty but as yet received no replies. I have used Thrifty in USA for 20 years and never had an experience like this. The first two cars which I received were both unfit for the road and a danger to the public. "

" Despite arriving 3 hours later than expected about 2.30 in the morning we picked up the car with a minimum of fuss and ended up with a 4 wheel drive full size instead of an economy. Great we drive 4 wheel drives at home. The only problem was that the tailgate stopped working part way through the holiday. "

" Thrifty desk was closed - it was 00:30 but we were directed to the Hertz desk very efficient girl there dealt with us and upgraded us to 5 Star - cars were in short supply due to Hurricane Ian - we were given a 2022 Chrysler Pacifica - this is a six seater people carrier - we had hoped to det what we asked for a mid sized SUV ( usually a Ford Escape or a Nissan Rogue) but you could not fault the Chrysler for its driver assist accessories and it was an easy car to drive and the parking aids made that easy too- "

I ended up taking the car back to the airport, after a 300mile plus trip in poor state, the car was swapped, but it shouldn't have gone out in the first place, I had to use it as I hadn't an option not to, I had to go out of my way to change the car and what should have been a customer service safety net wasn't responded to. Airport staff were great though. "

" At checkin told to use auto machines (very friendly not). Despite pre registration nothing saved so had to complete again. Then they only had 4 cars - told me I had to take a pick up truck or come back in two days as very busy. An SUV (which I had ordered) then appeared and I waa able to have this but did feel sorry for the group behind me also looking for an SUV. Stafv blamed being busy for memorial weekend and that I was lucky to get anything. Flights were late but Auto Europe office closed. "

" There is no recourse between what Auto Europe's voucher says and what the Thrifty staff say, so you end up getting screwed over by Thrifty. "

" The car was very expensive to rent. The car was in good condition and pleasant to drive though. The person on the desk in Fort Myers I dealt with was very unpleasant and not at all what I needed after an 8 hour flight. He flatly denied that my rental included extra drivers for free and a full tank of petrol, and when I queried this he became rude and told me I shouldn't have rented from Auto Europe. As I had no means to argue, I had to go with his refusal to add my wife as a second driver for free, thereby making my holiday more difficult as only I could drive the car. I also returned it full, in case they tried to charge me a ridiculous refuelling cost. Both of these things spoilt my rental. "

However because of the ban on flights to/from Europe I took an early flight and returned the vehicle 16 days earlier than planned and prepaid for. " I originally booked a mid size car but on our arrival at RSW at midnight, I was landed with a choice of a GMC Yukon XL or a Mini van none of which was anywhere near my booked car. I had never driven a vehicle so large but, was faced with a take it or leave it situation at 12mn. The entire staff was unhelpful to say the least. Their attitude was - just take it or leave it. They could not have acted more unconcerned but, I quite understand that it was none of their making. I wish the company can find a way of providing you a car similar to what you booked. People do book particular types of car for particular reasons you must understand. As a European, I was not used to driving large cars , that was why I booked a mid size. "

Had to change car due to unsatisfactory steering. Overloaded female in rental compound (not the pleasant one inside the airport) was grumpy and unhelpful. "

" Service was great. As I collected the car late at night I did not spot the spilled white paint spots on the rear door nor all the scuffs on the rear bumper. Also the front passenger seat electric slider didn't work. I pointed these minor problems out to the receiving staff when handing it back and they immediately took it out of service for active repair, apologising for this. I can only assume the previous hirer did not advise these faults. "

" I always book with Auto Europe but will be very wary in future. This was off airport and not mentioned to me. Phone was torn out at call station and not good for 75 year olds with three cases having to be pulled about 1/3 mile to call station. Then expensive mobile call to EUROPCAR or Advantage as it was called in Fort Myers. The care was 5 years old with 40k miles on clock. I cannot recommend it to anyone. I will never book with them through you again. "

" One day after picking up my rental a message came up on the dashboard saying maintainance required. I ran the car for 3 weeks as I was only traveling locally but decided to swap the car as I was travelling down to Key West. This was inconvenient because I was staying in Naples and I had to make the trip of 30 miles to swap the car. When making the swap, the lady on the desk was quite dismissive and told me this was normal. I explained that I had been hiring from Dollar for over 12 years and never experienced this problem before. When I picked the first car up, the valeting was not up to your usual standard but I took it into a valeting garage to clean it myself. This is the first time I have had any problems with Dollar and it won't put me off hiring in the future. PS My replacement car was perfect. Thank You "

" See above for car condition. I was also told I needed to a tiva The the toll tag at $10 per day. I made it clear that I was only using tolls on one day and even then I could avoid them. But the staff lied to me saying I had to take the service. This cost me $60 for something I only used for a couple of hours and even then I could have used a different route to avoid tolls. I was also told that despite paying for the complete insurance package, if I had a puncture I would not be covered for roadside assistance. This is not acceptable. Basically the desk staff tried to sell me every upgrade they could by frightening me about what might happen. We left the desk very irritated by the experience. If the only bookings are through Advantage this would make us stop next time I think "

" First vehicle broke down due to battery failure, service from call centre poor as took 20 minutes to actually speak to anyone, a call which cost £5. Managed to return car to airport got a newer vehicle and then one day into having it a warning light said tyre loss pressure, cost me $ 1.50 to get it pumped up. Have had many vehicles from Dollar over the last 10 years and this has been the worst experience to date "

" Overpriced fuel charged at desk plus Tax, no option to return car with a full tank. Is this a Dollar policy ?? The Female Dollar Rep was not helpful at all. I booked a Ford Focus or similar ( Compact) and the choice of car types (make & models etc) was very limited as there was only 1 ford focus and that was parked in the midsize area. The car was also an older model with high mileage. The cars in the compact area looked like small Economy types not compact. "

" My only comment is that they always supply 2 ignition keys and an identity tag on an unbreakable wire loop. This is very bulky in my pocket (especially when wearing shorts) and if you loose them you will be charged to replace them both - roughly $300 each ! Why not supply one key and tag or put both keys on a ring that can be opened? "
