" I had just flown with my wife from Aberdeen - London Heathrow - Philadelphia - Fort Myers and arrived at 10:30 pm both very tired - the only vehicle available was a Hyundai Kona ( we normally are able to choose a Ford Escape or Nissan Rogue) and I did know that the Kona was one of the vehicles mentioned on our booking - these however were taken by other customers In order to fit our cases we had to drop the rear seats - even then it was a tight fit but given the time and we were tired we took the Kona Next day I returned to Thrifty - the customer agent was not there and we were dealt with by the Hertz agent who told us the only way to get a larger vehicle was to upgrade which we reluctantly agreed tp at a cost of $35 a day - total an additional $894.60 on top of our original rental cost - reluctantly we accepted this and chose a Ford Edge which was a superb vehicle I feel that we were 'persuaded' to accept this upgrade as the only way to get a vehicle which met our needs - were not offered any alternative within the 'Compact SUV' class "

" Stood for 0ver an hour waiting to be served. Picked up a Nissan Rogue at Ft Myers. When I got on to i75 the the brakes were grinding and spongy. I drove the car 30 miles to Naples FL which was my destination trying not to brake to much. The next day I returned car to Naples airport and reported brake issue. Staff changed the Nissan for a Ford Escape without any problem. The car seemed ok travelling around Naples as it was only being used to go to the beach and for shopping. On the 19th December had to travel back up i75 to Ft Myers airport to pick up my daughter when this car started misfiring. When I got to the airport I informed Thrifty regarding this problem. No apology was given but but I received another car which took over two hours as they had lost all the paper work for the previous vehicle. I found this totally unacceptable army daughter had just come off a flight from Scotland which took 20 hours. We have complained four times to Thrifty but as yet received no replies. I have used Thrifty in USA for 20 years and never had an experience like this. The first two cars which I received were both unfit for the road and a danger to the public. "

Phone was torn out at call station and not good for 75 year olds with three cases having to be pulled about 1/3 mile to call station. I ran the car for 3 weeks as I was only traveling locally but decided to swap the car as I was travelling down to Key West. This was inconvenient because I was staying in Naples and I had to make the trip of 30 miles to swap the car. When making the swap, the lady on the desk was quite dismissive and told me this was normal. I explained that I had been hiring from Dollar for over 12 years and never experienced this problem before. When I picked the first car up, the valeting was not up to your usual standard but I took it into a valeting garage to clean it myself. This is the first time I have had any problems with Dollar and it won't put me off hiring in the future. PS My replacement car was perfect. Thank You "

But the staff lied to me saying I had to take the service. This cost me $60 for something I only used for a couple of hours and even then I could have used a different route to avoid tolls. I was also told that despite paying for the complete insurance package, if I had a puncture I would not be covered for roadside assistance. This is not acceptable. Basically the desk staff tried to sell me every upgrade they could by frightening me about what might happen. We left the desk very irritated by the experience. If the only bookings are through Advantage this would make us stop next time I think "

I booked a Ford Focus or similar ( Compact) and the choice of car types (make & models etc) was very limited as there was only 1 ford focus and that was parked in the midsize area. The car was also an older model with high mileage. The cars in the compact area looked like small Economy types not compact. "
