However, Auto Europe was closed and I did not have a US phone so had to borrow one to call SIXT. On emailing Auto Europe you said that being late was not an issue in USA. That would have been nice to know in advance as it caused a lot of stress and required asking a stranger to borrow their phone. Perhaps you can alter your communication for USA rentals? "

" Dollar has charged $53.59 for gasoline in advance subject to returning the car with an empty tank as we were informed it would be the same amount in comparison to what we would pay in the city by the representative who booked the car out into our custody at Houston Texas. He informed us Dollar will refill the tank at $3.00 per litre in-house being the same amount in the city. However, when the vehicle was returned, it still had half a tank of gasoline which I photographed as my evidence in chief. I am therefore shocked to notice Dollar still applied full cost of $53.59, as if the car was returned with an empty tank of gasoline. My understanding is that the difference between the half tank to refill the gasoline back into the car could have been added to the toll cost incurred which could have reduced the cost of the toll we incurred at £95.88. In my opinion, Dollar should not have incurred more than $22 to $24 to refill the car tank back to full tank of gasoline capacity. This means Dollar could have refunded up to $30 back of the credit card that was debited. As I will be flying to Cleveland in the next two weeks, I will be declining a return empty tank with the same Dollar upon pick-up because I simply believe it is a scam to make more money out of customers hiring car. "

" I booked with you last year using Alamo and had no problems at all. This year i tried Budget. On attending the desk they tried to give me a Toyota Corolla. I explained i had booked an intermediate SUV. They then gave me a Jeep Grand Cheroke. When i set off i noticed the display was showing the tyre pressures which showed two tyres at 36 and two at 34&32. I thought this was odd to be displayed instead of the speed. The next day the tyre pressures on the ones that were 34&32 were now showing 30 and 28. I inflated the tyres and noticed that the dust caps were already missing off the two lower inflated tyres. This continued for a few days until i could return the car to a branch. I believe the tyre pressures were an issue before i was given the car. The staff at New Orleans airport were rude and abrupt. They gave us a different car, a Mazda CX-9 but this did not have Sat nav. where as the Jeep did. They said this was the only vehicle available. It was very dirty and lots of minor damage. For the last few days of the holiday there appeared to be some electrical issues which included the car kept telling me the ignition was still on, even after i had turned it off, and the trunk would not operate via the buttons and would not lock. We were then 2 hours away from the nearest branch and was wary of the poor attitude of the last desk staff so we made do with the car and got it back on return day. the man in the car park saw the ignition warning light and that the trunk would not operate or lock. He said he would sort out for some money to be refunded but we have not had any. "

" Hi Devin The service that we have received from all the Alamo staff has been excellent. However When we arrived at Houston in the evening we were disappointed that we did not have a choice of vehicle and you only had one luxury car available. We stayed in the Houston area for 4 days only covering bout 50 miles. We then set off on our trip towards Miami, within a couple of hours a service light reminder came on the dashboard. When we arrived at Lafayette we rang Alamo who suggested that we exchange the vehicle at Baton Rouge airport. Unfortunately they did not have any luxury vehicles available but the service light concerned us every time we started the car. We accepted a lesser quality car as an interim car this being an Infinity Q50 which had a horrible ride which made my wife feel ill. We called in it the next airport on our route which was Mobile, they had nothing better so were advised to carry on to the next large Airport which was Panama City where we met your representative Joshua.hale@ehi.com who was sympathetic to our situation but again he did not have a luxury vehicle to exchange but did offer us a Cadillac XT4 which we accepted and was fine but not the quality we originally hired, he also gave us his email and asked us to contact him with any other issues. From leaving Panama City on our way the oil warning light came on so we contacted Joshua who gave us some options. We chose to exchange the vehicle at Tallahasse Airport who again had no luxury cars but as we still had a long way to go we were not happy with a warning light being on. We exchanged for a Dodge Ram Truck which unfortunately again made way wife feel a little ill due to the rolling. We finally arrived at our destination Airport, Orlando with still 2 weeks to go. They had a choice of only 2 luxury cars both of which were covered in scratches. We accepted a Lincoln MKZ. We therefore ended up with 4 unplanned visits to your car rental locations to secure a luxury car causing us long route delays and inconvenience filling up the cars with fuel at each location and being without a luxury car for a significant part of our journey I can not fault any of your representatives especially Joshua at Panama City, but in the first instance we should not have been rented a car with an imminent service required for a 6 week long distance hire We have been using Alamo as our first choice of car rental since visiting the USA since 1978. This vacation has been a bit of a nightmare with the quality and lack of availability of your vehicles. The only saving grace for your company is the staff we have dealt with. " Booked with GPS - Counter staff handed over GPs in pack but gave no instructions or advice on how to set up. Also did not advise me about toll roads or offer toll road prepay option. Unable to fit GPS in car (it was just a nokia mobile phone and a USB lead)- had to return to pick up. Nobody except manager knew how to set up - when manager arrived it was apparent that the fitting to fix the GPs in the car ( on the air vent so that you could see the GPS) was missing from my pack. Manager brought me a fitting but still did not explain about toll road fees or system to prepay or avoid toll fees. Whole process took over an hour before I left the pick up. As compensation the exit assistant offered me free tank of gas but this was not noted on my contract. After leaving the airport the GPs directed me onto a toll road - I had no way to avoid entry and because I did not have any prepay toll vouchers understand that I will now receive a fine plus a admin fee. I am very unhappy over the lost hour to get the GPS fixed in the car and that toll fees were not explained to me at pick up and that I was not advised that the GPS could be set to avoid toll roads. The GPS was very buggy and difficult to use - screen almost impossible to read in the bright light of day . On drop off there was no record of the free tank of gas although after disputing the contract the assistant did agree that I would not have to pay for the gas but because I had paid in advance through AutoEurope I would be charged the toll rod fine and an admin charge. I was told I would receive an invoice by email but I have not received anything so have no idea how much I have been charged. Car was good and return assistance excellent but pick up agent very poor and GPS extremely poor. Because I rented through AutoEurope I have no control over 'extra' charges that I may receive. "

" This was the first time I've used Auto Europe and I must say they are the best method of booking a car. Other sites are not transparent about the level of insurance. Book with Auto Europe because your covered by insurance and they don't hide additional fees like most other companies. "

" I feel that international customers should be given time to be familiar within confident with the vehicle before driving off. The Sat Nav mapping was woefully out of date which caused a considerable amount of difficulties and at times was dangerous. This needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency Management need to take responsibility to ensure that their staff understand the different needs of international customers and ensure that we are given appropriate information before setting off. I spent an extra $600 On stuff I didn't need which soured the whole experience. I was frustrated and lost trust in the ably of the Sat nav to get me to my destinations. "

On arrival at Houston, we went to the pick up point in the airport and was grilled by the male agent to rent sat nav at $15 a day, we didn't need it, he wanted $15 a day for extra driver, we didn't need it, he wanted $6 a day for breakdown cover, he wanted us to take out more insurance than we already booked, he wanted us to pay him for filling up the car as we took it saying, its cheaper if you pay me for filling the car up with him and return it empty, we did that but noted on our driving, the most we could ever get in the car was $20. Customer service would have to improve dramatically if you ever want us to use your car hire service again, sorry but whilst the car was fine, your Houston staff need lessons on how to treat customers and not scam them out of more cash. He charged us an extra $150 for what on the pickup, crazy when you consider we paid you £370 for the 2 weeks, a total poor experience and high cost! "

" The overall experience was very good. However it would be great if there were options when searching for cars to choose full insurance cover. At the moment you have to do a general search and then go into each offer to see what insurance is provided. "

I had rented a car through auto-Europe and had selected one that provided full insurance cover and excess waivers etc. At the counter the sales person still tried to convince me to by either a corporate or normal insurance package. I travel to the states a lot and understand that this isn't required. However I can imagine that anyone new wouldn't understand the difference and then pay extra for this unnecessary cover. 2. The queue was very very long. There were many people in line that hadn't pre-booked a car. There should be some sort of fast track option to those who have pre-booked. 3. The salesman told me to go to bay A8 to collect my car. It took around 10 minutes of walking to get there and when I did the bay was empty! I had to go back to the counter with all my suitcases and get another car. "

" The guy at the Alamo front desk at IAH was totally uninterested in our booking. Couldn't be bothered to look it up and just wrote the number on the front of the hire document. When I asked about the roadside assistance that comes with the Auto Europe booking he said that if we required assistance we should telephone Auto Europe. Good advice for a breakdown in Texas? The guy on the car lot was the same. No interest in us, just wanted to chat to his buddy in the office. Got rid of us as quickly as possible. Didn't explain any of the features of the car. No notes about existing damage or scratches. It was left to the lady on checkout to sort out our booking with contact numbers, driving license, addresses and everything else. It took about 20 minutes because UK info does not fit easily into US computer forms and she did not understand a UK driving license. We had an issue with the a/c in Texas. Not pleasant when the outside temp is in the 90's!. No contact no. for local Alamo on the paperwork. Head office lady could not get rid of us quickly enough and passed us to roadside assistance who said it was not an emergency but helped us anyway. She organized a replacement car at a local agent in Bay City which would be available at 4pm. Called agent and was told the car may not be available but they would contact us. We heard nothing else from them. Luckily the a/c righted itself and we kept the car. Received an email from Alamo to say that we must take the car in for an oil change. Exchanged several emails with Alamo and I said that it was strange that when they wanted me to do something they could contact me but when I had a problem they were not interested. Also told them that I expected a hire car to be ready for the hire duration. They said they would find a local service company to do the oil change. Heard nothing else. I will not be using Alamo again. I like the fact that the insurance coverage is clear on the agreement and sufficient for use of the car in Texas. All too often car hire in Houston through the car hire form direct results in additional costs for insrance. "

" AE as always good value and good to have comprehensive insurance. The one thing you could improve on is selection of additional drivers in a search, some firms give a spouse for free (Budget), others charge a fortune like $13 - 15 a day (Alamo) which is pretty steep "
" I often use Budget and Alamo, so this was a first to try out Thrifty but I wasn't impressed. First the counter person try to hard sell me extra insurance (telling me I am not insured which I know through AE I am) and a toll card (not required in Houston for where I am going. Then on selecting a car the first had an empty tank (never had that before), the second a low pressure front tire. There third one I got in was fine. I have not had this before, that you try three times before you have an acceptable vehicle. "

" was kept waiting aprox 40 minuites when iwas finally seen the guy at reception was very rude on my voucher it states that iwas fully covered forbreakdown cover he said that iwas not covered and tryed to sell me thier breakdown cover which i refused to sign he told me if ibrokedown that i would be charged by dollar. ireplied to this by saying on my voucher iwas covered for everything his reply was it was not onhis paperwork so iasked himto look at myvoucher he refused to look and told me if anything happened i would be charged irefused to sign for the breakdown cover .then he produced another bill for fuel onmy agreement it clearly stated full to full he again said that myvoucher did not matter andthat iwould have to pay for the gas and bring back empty. by this time i was getting very stressed as we had been kept waiting for so long we had our mother with us who is 91 so ijust agreed to pay for gas upfront so i signed for the gas. then he said iwas good to go ireplied that i had payed for gps he then again replyed that i hadnot payed for gps then he looked again and replyied i dont think we have any just hang on miniute then he spoke to one of his collegeges and herd him say that the gps was not charged then he went off again when he came back he gave me a gps and directed us towher to pick up our car we got to pick up area and was again to stand to one side the car would be here shortly we then was kept waiting a further 50 miniutes then when we finaly got in the car the stand for gps was missing so my wife had to run back up to the dollar desk they gave her thestand then finaly got on our way appox 2 hours from ariving at the dollar reception to actually driving the car. this is after a10 hour flight. this was not the end of our ordeal half way to our destination the gps run out of charge the charger did not work so we luckily got directions to our destination. i tryed to charge the gps in the mains but it still would not charge so we had to manage on our own. since comming home i have got unknown charges from dollar on my credt card . whitch auto europe are investigating .our experience with dollar was a nightmare... "

When the car arrived it had not been cleaned inside or out and I found various drinks containers and remains of food inside the car. I was expecting to pay for an additional driver but that was $11 not £10 a day, and then we were charged 10% as a Commission fee for selling us these (Before taxes). The extras came to more than the car hire! I would be very careful in future on this items. They did not inspect the car for damage before it left only on return and I would not purchase a tank of fuel in future "
