" Be wary of Gobycar Rented a car at Girona. The collection of the car was pretty simple and it seemed to help that I had done the pre check in online as people in front of us in the queue were taking an age. I took out my own rental cover insurance as their premium was very pricey. If you only go with the basic package please be careful of these charlatans as they will find something. I would advise having a good look around the car inside and out and taking pictures before putting in your suitcases. When I returned the car, very quickly they pointed out a small paint chip on the inside of the boot like they already knew it was there. I had only checked the paint work on the outside so was done for £200. I was pretty sure we hadn't done the damage to the car as we only used the boot to carry a couple of carry on bags to and from our villa, but the check in person was very threatening when I tried to plead innocence and demanded a photograph of the damage from before we took the car. In the end we were in a rush to get to the airport so had to cave sign the check in form. Also, don't bother emailing their customer services as you won't get a reply. I have sent several emails to the customer services email address requesting an invoice and photos of the alleged damage but have not yet received a response, not even an automated "thanks for the email" message. Their customer service is awful. "
" Scammers. As many other Trustpilot and reviews state, they put pressure on us to take out additional insurance saying we would not be covered for damages even though we had taken out insurane through AutoEurope. When we retured the car, they man inspecting it rubbed some earth/dust into the wheelarch and said that there were some scratches and demended money for it. He said a leaf could have done it after we said that we had not had any contact or incidents with the car. We asked him to prove they were not there before we took the car out. He said he had photos but would not share or show them. When I contacted customer services for the contract agreement and photos when returned home, they did not provide any photos of the car prior to us hiring it either - it was just blank spaces. They were rude and quite threatening when we said that we would not pay any money until they could prove the scratch was not there prior to us taking the car. They then took money from our credit card without our permission when we returned home without providing any evidence. When I range Auto Europe, I was told by a customer adviser that this was common with this company and they get many complaints about them and for similar stories. He knew they were scammers but the company still insisted on doing business with them. I wish I had read the reveiws which state similar story before we used them. "

" The pickup information on the rental voucher was incorrect (directing us with our luggage to the bus terminal rather than car park), which cost us crucial time finding the shuttle. AutoEurope had no Out-of-hours contact available on Saturday 21st December - just an answer message (despite there being an Out-of-hours number on the car voucher), so when GoByCar's shuttle failed to show up, we were left on our own (in the empty car park of a foreign airport with a young child past her bedtime). It was not the best start to our Christmas holiday. The following day, there was an agent on the Out-of-hours number, who was efficient and contacted GoByCar to arrange collection. "
" Our flight into Lanzarote was delayed by 45mins, landing at 7:50pm. As an experienced user of rental cars, I did not consider this a major issue. Our first problem was that the pick-up details on the AutoEurope voucher were incorrect, stating "Follow the yellow line bus until the lift and go to the first floor to take the shuttle". This took us to the airport bus station, but through asking around, we discovered that the car hire shuttle left from space A11 in the terminal car park across the road. This entailed dragging all our bags (and car seat) back to the terminal and across the road to the car park. Still not a major issue. My call log shows I first called GoByCar at 8:50pm. They have a message on their phone reassuring customers that a shuttle is on its way, and to be patient and await its arrival. However, as time went on and other passengers were picked up by their rental companies, leaving only my family in the car park, I made six further calls to GoByCar (same message, but we could choose "option 1" to let them know we were still waiting), and attempted to call AutoEurope's Out-of-hours number - which unfortunately just had a message that the office was closed. (I also called the main office number in case this was a mistake, but that had the same message - it seems there was no out of hours service that evening). Eventually, at around 9:45, we talked to a passing policewoman who asked one of the other company's shuttle drivers to take us out to GoByCar's lot. It was locked up, and the lights were turned off, so we returned to the airport (now well after 10pm). The other rental companies in the airport either had no cars available by that time or were extremely expensive, so we took a taxi to our accommodation (a long way from the airport), arriving at around 11pm. The following morning (22nd December), we called AutoEurope and returned to the airport to collect our car. There was no apology from GoByCar, who simply stuck to the fact that they closed at 9 and their system hadn't logged my phone calls prior to that time. I rent cars abroad regularly (3-6 times a year), and have done so for many years, and I have never before not been able to collect my car. A 7:50pm arrival on a Saturday is not late at night for a busy airport, and it is not unusual for a flight to be delayed by 45 minutes. I accept that GoByCar's office hours end at 9pm, but I would expect any hire company to have the flexibility to accommodate a short delay if they are aware they have prepaid customers still to pick up their car, especially given that this was a 10-day hire. Other passengers were being shuttled to their cars, and the other rental companies we spoke to were perplexed that GoByCar had closed dead on 9pm (arguably before, since I called at 8:50 after we had already been waiting for the shuttle). Furthermore, GoByCar's answer phone message should state that they are closed when they are closed. It should not continue to tell customers that a shuttle is on its way after they have closed up the office and gone home. This would have saved us a long, anxious wait in a car park, as well as a pointless trip to their office and back. No refund or compensatory upgrade was offered. "

It needs to be made much clearer to future customers that the Budget/AVIS office is off site of the airport and requires minibus transfer. " Booked a car and paid the damage waiver premium through auto Europe. When I was served by the extremely slow counter at the airport, I was told the damage waiver fee I'd paid had nothing to do with them and that I'd need to pay an extra 140 euros to get the cover. I didn't pay them for it and left to get the car feeling uneasy as the counter staff seemed pretty dodgy and evasive when questioned. I got the car and it had loads of damage not noted on the sheet, which resulted in me having to spend 20 minutes taking photos of everything inside and out while my family waited. When I drove the car I noticed a wheel bearing needed replaced almost immediately. The front window washers were blocked and didn't spray. The parcel shelf was broken and missing, so anything left in the boot was on show and in the sun. When I returned the car there was no one at the drop off office to speak to and walk round the car with, only a letter box to drop the key in. I'm now waiting on my 1400 euro credit card deposit to be returned, praying that they don't hit me with some charge for damage that's not my fault. "

" Turisprime operate from a small brick shelter at the top back corner of the public car park and there is no clear sign posting to guide you to them. On this occasion the car interior was far from clean and could do with a full valet, especially the 2 front seats. As I pointed out to you in an email exchange after our pick up 7/11 Turisprime (Avis) charged my Visa Card the full "holding" deposit of euro 350 rather than place a "hold" against the card, contrary to T&C's of the hire voucher. This is the 1st time that any car hire company has done this in my experience and I have hired many cars over the past 20 plus years. That said I have already received back a full refund of that euro 350 charge. I will not be using Turisprime again. "

" Top car are on the top floor of the Lanzarote airport car park, the car was okay. Citroen C3 been through the wars, though many marks and dents, but perfectly adequate. Only issue was no washer water, prove a problem, but easily sorted would've thought it was something they would've checked, but looking at the dust under the bonnet, I don't think ever checked. The best thing about top car, if you don't have to negotiate the very narrow car park exit entrance that you do with many of the other hire companies, it's easy to drive out easy to drive in a much better place.to get to the departures entrance. "

" I found the staff very helpful and friendly and was pleased with the Audi provided to us at that price. It had a well tuned engine with enough power to carry four of us up the mountain road through Femes to and from the airport and was good around town. There was some scuff damage on pick-up which I pointed out to staff. They said they already had photos but were comfortable that I took my own, as well, and therefore there were none of the awkward conversations you can sometimes get with other providers, when you return a car exactly as you found it (but they think otherwise) Very hand location in the airport car park and even on the same level as departures when we handed it in, so straight through to baggage drop from there. " Auto Europe were efficient and competitive but, were let down by Avis' very poor service and attempt to scam us. They tried a real hard sell to take out extra insurance and to pre-pay for a full tank fuel which we declined. Th hire paperwork stated 'no damage' but the car was covered in scratches & dents. When I challenged their staff they told me to take photos of the damage. ON returning the car I was told their was lots of damage to it!!! I showed them a video I had taken of the car but, lots of unsuspecting customers wouldn't have done and would have been charged for prior damage. I will be reverting to Autoreisen Hire who are brilliant and fair to deal with. "

" I have emailed you to request a refund as we were not able to take the car. The deposit was only made known after making the booking online. There was no prior warning up front. This kind of thing should be front and centre on your online booking portal before any potential customer ends up in thr same situation. The couple in front of us at the airport refused to pay the deposit. I am not sure how though as the associate we dealt with did not give that as an option. We have hired cars many times before with CiCar on the island and have had no such issues. All insurance is included in the price paid. We assumed the same with yourselves and decided to try you as an alternative given you seemed to be cheaper. Please respond ASAP to my request for a refund. We are very disappointed with the service we received. We had no option other than to pay for a taxi service and were without a car for the duration of the holiday. "

" Overall the experience was fine. However, just some observations. I was told the car was not damaged when I picked it up, but the car had several marks dints and scuffs, presumably this doesn't count but might be worth mentioning these when collecting the car as it took time to take photos of all the damage when we collected. The additional charges should be more explicit when ordering, additional cover at £20-30 per day to avoid a £2,000 excess is, in my opinion trying to take advantage of customers worries. Also, we were told that we could return the car on whatever amount of fuel for an additional £80, this again feels like a trick to take advantage of people who might not feel confident filling up a car abroad. " There was confusion at the airport as there was an Avis desk, which on one side was a 'priority' service and the other side was normal service. Not very clearly advertised. Stood in the wrong queue for 20 minutes to be told we had to go the other side. However, the clerk was very kind and agreed to process our ticket. The car had a half-full tank of petrol, which we only realised on the way to our resort. It should have been full. We had to send an email to clarify the situation. We were provided with an alternate car, which was not as good (powerful) as the one we had requested. However, this was ok and adequate for driving around Lanzarote. It was in excellent condition with hardly a mark. "

" On arrival at Lanzarote airport straight up to the rental counter so very quickly dealt with, however there was an Issue with the car. The paperwork stated undamaged which was far from the truth. Four noteworthy impact on bodywork, ignition key blade didn't easily come out from the key, quite awkward sometimes and one of the parcel shelf mounting point I had broken off. In the large rental car park I struggle to find someone to point out the damage in the car parking area were not particularly interested. Return the car weekday 10 am again no one in the car parking drop-off area had to return the key to the terminal desk where you couldn't go over the car with someone at the time of drop off. "

" The vehicle was present in a por state with both front seat badly stained and a front passenger door that contacted the front wing when it was opened which made it difficult to open fully. The paper work presented at the bigining of the rental did not show any of the damage that was on the vehicle at collection and when I approach a member of the TopCar staff about this they just said to photograph the the damage. It should not be up to a customer recording damage on a vehicle at the point of pick-up. When the vehicle was returned, a member of the TopCar staff inspected the rental vehicle as expected however, we were told no paper work is given to the customer to confirm the vehicle had been checked , but told that the deposit would be returned within 24 hours. " I still find budget - and pretty much all car hire companies - attempt to push full cover at the desk as somewhat aggressive and patronizing. I always assume desk staff get a bonus if they sell top up cover, which is why they push it so hard. I hire rental cars regularly for business and leisure and have an annual excess cover policy, but they still try to foist it on me! This policy should be reviewed as I often hear less savy or regular hirers getting flustered by the hard sell. Its not a good perception for the car hire business. Budget and co would be better providing full cover across the board and they would get more repeat business. "

" I paid for one day which was the charge of £56. I contacted customer services prior to collecting the car; stating that I would like an extra day. Customer services advised to sort it with the desk on the day. Then went to the counter, the second day wasn't the same rate as £56, but actually got charged £70 for day 2! It was £35 for the car but she didn't decide to mention the £40 insurance. It was so much cheaper if I'd have done 2 days via the website booking. If I knew the extra day would have been £70 I wouldn't have proceeded. Basically feel mugged off. "

When we actually picked up the car there were lots in the group we had booked. When we returned the car the agent confirmed that everything was in order so I asked for a receipt confirming that the car had been returned with no damage. He told me that I would receive that by email. That was a week ago and I still have not received a receipt. "

" When we picked up the vehicle, after close scrutiny, there were at least 5 minor scratches that had not been acknowledged on the associated paperwork. I brought these to the attention of an employee who registered them on their system. We had an incident free week, but when we returned the vehicle a minute scratch (which I suspect was already present but we failed to see) was noticed at inspection. The result was that I was charged €140! Yes I have excess insurance cover, but I consider it amounts to fraud on the part of Hertz!! Will not use them again. "

Just 'here's the key, it's over the road in a garage somewhere'. When you find the car there's no one to assist you or give you any information. Nothing is checked, your just told to take your own photos of the car if you want. The return is the same. No information about where to return the car to. When you eventually find the return area, there's no one there. Again nothing is checked. Maybe that's the way it's done in Europcar, but I've hired cars from other companies and there was reassuring customer service at the pick up and drop off. At the start of this survey it says customer service is your top priority. In my experience that's not happening. "

" Autoeurope mislead me overcharged me and were a complete contrast to Dollar. I ended up paying twice for a car that I could have just got far cheaper if I had dealt with Dollar directly. The customer service advisor contradicted himself when I called to complain and ask for a refund. No refund given just patronised by the adviser. You were fully aware of certain aspects of problems I could encounter and failed to make me aware resulting in being charged twice. Very negative experience overall on the first time I have ever rented a car. I will not use you again and will be leaving negative tripadvisor comments. I will also be contacted a family friend who is a travel journalist and will be making her aware of my experience so she can pass this on and avoid others getting ripped off by yourselves. "

" Your instructions on finding dollar were not very good. We followed the instructions to the letter which led us to the external doors where many other pick ups were taking place. The dollar van flew by this area twice. On the third time around I stopped the van and was given directions. The pick up was actually in the bus station about 300 metres from where your directions ended. There was not an easy route to this without actually walking on the road. In the bus station dollar have an office at stance 6 and the minibus picked us up there. "

On the one hand it was quick and efficient, but the wierd bit was that my electronic signature appeared on the contract documents, to signify that I accepted the car as described and photoed in detail, even though I hadnt seen it yet. I was then given the keys to collect the car in the car park, but there was no attendant there to query things with. Maybe because it was late evening, around 9.30pm? " Directions to the shuttle bus pick up point are terrible. Worth mentioning that people should turn right and follow the yellow line down to the far end of the terminal. That said the yellow line mysteriously stops about 15 metres outside the terminal and then it's just guess work. The first car I was given shuddered on the dual carriageway in 4th and 5th gear. I took the car straight back to the car hire company. A man pointed to me to get in the passenger seat and then drove like a lunatic around the industrial estate to see if I was being honest or not. When the car started to go wrong he took me back to the car hire company. I spoke to the man behind the counter who offered no apology and just pointed a different car. the eventual car we used for the week was fine. "

I explained the situation and he told me that I should have obtained a receipt (fair enough) but he also told me that I should have taken a photograph of the fuel gauge after I had refilled the tank. What? Are the staff you employ so dishonest that customers have to resort to this sort of defence? What they have done effectively amounts to fraud or even theft, both criminal offences here in the UK. Auto Europe need to take a long hard look at the staff they employ and so do InterRent. Perhaps they thought that because I live a couple of thousand miles away that they could get away with charging any excess they like. Unfortunately they have picked on the wrong person here. I will pursue this matter until that fee has been refunded along with an additional payment to compensate me for my time and inconvenience. "
" I rented this Fiat 500 from Lanzarote airport for a week on Jan 13 2019. The rental fee for the week was £38 which is quite cheap. That should have set alarm bells ringing really. I refilled the tank and returned the car. I asked the staff to check the car over but they were not interested. Later on my return I was charged an extra 68E. I telephoned the number on my invoice to find out why and I was told that the car was not returned with a full tank. Absolute nonsense. The tank was refilled at a service station close to the airport. I had only used about 19E worth of petrol so I paid in cash and I didnt get a receipt. I made absolutely sure that the tank was full to the brim. Ask yourself this question: Knowing that I would be charged for excess fuel and also an administration charge, why would I NOT return the car with a full tank? I have been renting cars abroad for some thirty years now, and I know how these companies work. I have already raised an incident ticket with InterRent. "

" It wasnt budget, it was Avis, merged together or not, it wasnt clear at all, staff not very helpful, I didnt get the car at all, I was refused because I wouldnt give them £1000 damage money upfront before I even take the car, or see the car or sit in the car Via credit card, I was left with no transport for my holiday, they only offered half my money as refund not a full refund, it was nothing but shambles and trying to add extra costs here there and everywhere NEVER EVER WILL I USE OR RECOMMEND THEM EVER!!!!! "

" As I don't have a credit card, my husband gave me his to make the deposit. The man at the desk would not accept it. I found him very brusque and difficult to understand what he was saying, he told me that if I wanted to use my visa debit card I would have to pay extra and have extra insurance - I said that I had already paid for insurance and he said 'yes, but if you want to use the visa card you will have to pay more for excesses' there were three prices, the lowest was 150 Euros, I said I would have to do that then and he said, that is just for one excess - I still didn't understand why I had to pay extra, but since there was no other way around it, I had to pay, he said he would take 450 Euros out of the account. When I returned the keys, I was in a queue, a man came out and took the keys and asked if the car was ok, I said it was. I thought later, that I should have asked if I was automatically being refunded. I was very distressed by the approach of the first man and especially since other people have used debit cards to hire cars without any problem and without having to pay extra. My husband is writing to the CEO to complain about this treatment. I will never use Europcar again and have already been advised, by people living in Lanzarote, not to use them. "

" AVOID. I was charged for non existent damage to the car, 10 days after I returned home, and despite having written confirmation at drop off that there was no damage. 220 Euros! Is this a scam? I booked at Rhodium at a higher cost given negative feedback on Goldcar..only to find Goldcar own Rhodium. Am going through their claim process but think its linked to me refusing to but their pressure sales for insurance when I arrived. If it helps others a) check the car at pickup and photograph all damage. Cars have more dents on them compared to usual as I regularly use carhire. As the car is often in poorly lit areas, please use a torch on your mobile phone....I know the last thing you want to do after a flight b) get the pick up guy to countersign any fresh damage noted c) avoid the pressure sales for their insurance d) at drop off, get them to countersign there is no damage as they don't often do this and I insisted they sign instead of a verbal agreement "

On the basis that their policy is collect full return full as opposed to return empty I calculate that this saved 60 euros on the hire. I do feel the latter arrangement is somewhat underhand as few will return with an empty tank. I found Avis the most efficient we had the car as ordered within twenty minutes of reaching the arrivals hall with no queues, the vehicle was clean inside and out which was not the case with Goldcar in Portugal. Overall my experience of Auto Europe is good but very good when opting for an international hire company. "
