I chose Hertz because of the horror stories of insurance add-ons and scams and was disappointed to receive a second rate old beaten up car. Staff were fine but car was not. " When we arrived we joined the very long queue for the Avis desk. After 1 hour we had made no progress in the queue. The Avis desk also served Payless and Budget customers. There were two rental agents serving one customer at a time in booth with sliding doors which were shut when the customer was inside. People in the queue started to look at the reviews - all were terrible. Some people came out of the office extremely angry with no car. Other potential customers were crying with no car. As we had pre paid we had no alternative other than to wait or loose the money we had prepaid for our voucher. After 3 hours we went into the office, the rental agents were rude and unprofessional. They insisted we had to take the additional insurance or they wouldn't let us have a car. There was no option to secure the deposit on a credit card as we had been expecting. No insurance, no car! They said what do you expect if you book through a third party 'auto Europe' laughing. We had purchased the additional insurance through yourselves which I would like to be refunded for. We also had to pay for Avis full insurance, in order to get a vehicle. The whole experience was a farce and a scam by a franchise of Avis. It was disgraceful! The car was new - but had no number plates. When we questioned this they said it was ok to drive. We obviously got stopped by the police! I strongly advise that you reconsider using Avis, budget, Payless at Tivat apt. Please advise how I can claim the insurance costs back from yourselves. I am also contacting Avis directly about this horrendous experience! What an introduction to Montenegro! "

" With 2 people infront of me, it was over 1 hour to get to the kiosk desk for car paperwork at pick up. The day following the pick up the front tyre was flat as a result of a damaged tyre wall, which Avis should have spotted or been aware of before rental to me. At car drop off, they also charged us for a cross border charge, EUR 206.45 which we only enquired about and it was not made clear to us they had included this cost in the contract, and that it was payable regardless of whether we crossed a border or not (we did not cross any borders in the car) this is currently in dispute with their customer services as they were not t all clear about the nature of this charge, their attention was not focused on making sure we understood, only getting us out of the kiosk as quick as possible because of the building queue, they are completely under resourced and unprofessional compared to some of the other rental companies, I would not use them again ever, anywhere or recommend to anyone. "

THey would not accept our own 3rd party insurance and wanted to charge 5 times the amount of the car hire for their own version. they were rude, aggressive and I am dioscusted with their representation of Avis. i have used AutoEuorpe hundreds of times. and some of those are with Avis. I will never use them again after this terrible experience, and make sure I advise friends and acquaintances to do the same. "

" Podgorica airport is small and often quite busy so probably best to join the queue for car rental in a relaxed manner with no high expectations. There appear to be no outddor kiosks or parking bay signage for any rental company so listen to the given directions and keep an eye open for Avis staff shirt logos. "

" They provided an invalid green card but they quickly resolved the issue and provided one via email. If this had been valid then I would have said they were really efficient but just rated lower due to having queries at border and time taken to ensure it wouldn't be an issued leaving. Can be hard to locate staff to take car and drop off in car parks. I have used them before and usually a good company to hire with and minimal issues, would use Sixt again. "

I had to fit the spare wheel due to a puncture which, on my return, SIXT have debited my credit card for @ €1200. 2. SIXT airport staff pressurise customers toreturn the car empty of fuel claiming they will refuel it cheaperthan if the customer returns the car with a full tank. However, hidden away inthe T&Cs is an additional €24 'handling charge'. Auto Europe need to be aware of these scma by the SIXT airport staff at Podgorica and take appropriate action. "

" I wish I had read the on line reviews first about Avis in Montenegro before I booked as it seems to be a frequent scam that AVIS Tivat airport are running on all holiday makers who take out their own excess insurance.. Check Tripadvisor reviews, lots of examples over the last year. My short break was ruined by my Avis experience at the airport. I am also disappointed as I have booked Avis cars, through you, in numerous countries over the years and never had a problem. I also wanted to book Avis, it being a reputable and worldwide brand... or so I thought ! On arrival and after waiting for over an hour to be served, they tried to do the hard sell on the excess insurance, but I didn't buy as I already have yearly cover. When collecting the car, they weren't bothered checking for scratches/marks and said I could take it right away. But I insisted that we jointly check the car, as the car wasn't washed and very dusty outside. I am glad I did as I noticed lots of small scrapes and marks that we noted down. After a lovely few days without incident, on returning the car they went over it with a microscope (a complete behavioural contrast to me collecting the car) and found two small marks that I probably missed or were new, and when I say small, they were max 1 to 2cms and would probably buff out or the like. Going back to the office, another customer was just having the experience I was about to !. We waiting about 40 mins and I was then presented with a €635.25 bill for the 2 tiny marks, I asked to see their charging sheet but was told they couldn't find it. As my flight was close to leaving (hence they took their time to process my paperwork to ensure it was) I did not have time to argue, I had to pay, so to try to reclaim later from my insurance. This sort of behaviour, should not be allowed to happen and is doing reputation damage to Avis, and also tarring Auto-Europe for recommending them. It's not just happening to the odd person but seems to be endemic from what I witnessed whilst waiting in the queue and reading subsequent "tripadvisor" reviews. "

" This is the first time I have used the website to book the car. They show low prices at the outset and then increase the price once everything is chosen and just because the car is being returned at a different venue other than pick up. Again the price difference is enormous. "
" Avis is a total fraud. While giving the car - they did a 30 seconds check and got me to sign the paper. Not once, they said that I should check the car myself. While dropping off the car - they checked the car for 10 not only just looking but also feeling the bumpers to find some old scratches underneath the bumper which they also knew are old scars but found that as an excuse to charge money as I had a large amount of money as deposit. They knew that it would be possible to easily take whatever money they want and when I spoke to the manager, he said this is business and this is how they make money. " I have already sent the following to AutoEurope & Surprice! Totally unacceptable!! Good afternoon. This afternoon I should be driving around the coastline of The Bay Of Kotor, but instead I have the disappointment of not having my hire car. I will explain. I contacted your company (AutoEurope) about my booking Sunday afternoon after discovering our flight had been delayed. I was then transferred to the contractor, Surprice in Tivat. From that contact I was asked to contact another number which would not connect. I rang the previous number but could not connect. I then went on the www & contacted Surprice directly (phone). Speaking to a representative I told them my flight was delayed & would not be able to collect the car that day. No problem. Or so it would seem. Monday morning I made my way to Tivat airport via taxi (cost me 18 Euros each way!) & went into the Surprice office & all seemed ok. That, until I was told that 'my' car had been given to someone else & I would have to pay an additional €6 per day for a larger car. I said I didn't want a larger car & that the fact that they didn't have my car should not have been my problem? This is where things take a turn for the worse. The person I was dealing with (seemed to be the person of main authority) suddenly became quite aggressive. He told me it was my problem because I arrived late to pick up the car? I again said I did not wish to pay the extra fees. He then told me he was cancelling the booking. They, not me. I began to panic a little & asked over how many days would I be charged the €6 for. His reply was that he was cancelling the booking giving no further room for discussion. He then produced a cancellation form & asked me to sign it. I began to write down my reason for the cancellation on the form at which point he alarmingly raised his voice at me & stated that I couldn't write anything on the form. I carried on writing despite his tone. At this point, & shockingly so, he slammed his hand down onto the form, scrunched it up into his fist & very angrily exclaimed I told you no writing! Feeling very intimidated with his aggressive manner & actually feeling very threatened (he was a large imposing man) I quickly left the office without adding anything more. A very frightening experience & one I have no wish to endure again. So, I have spent over £100 for a car I didn't receive. At no point did I feel I had done anything wrong. I had communicated everything about my flight delay to AutoEurope & Surprice & there seemed to be no issue. Never before when using AutoEurope have I experienced anything like this. In fact earlier this year, in Italy, I was offered a larger car at no additional cost to myself. The situation with Surprice had the element of a scam going on. This guy new that by him cancelling the car hire Surprice would still have my hard earned cash & also free up a car to give to another customer. Easy money? Absolutely disgusting the way this was handled let alone the tone & manner of the man in the office. I can only ask now whether or not I will receive a refund & an apology from Surprice but can I make it quite plain here that the association with Surprice & yourselves needs very close scrutiny? So, as its been a number of days since emailing AutoEurope about this I will be interested to see if I get any response at all??? "

There were 10 people in the queue in front of me and it took over 3 hours to reach the front. That's longer than the flight took from Manchester. Every client was bogged down in argument with the counter staff who were trying to flog extras with dire warnings of consequences if they didn't accept them. There was no recognition over the time this was taking and the inconvenience to customers. On collection it was clear that the inspection staff were on commission to spot damage that wasn't registered at the time of pick up, however small. In my case the inspection took 20 minutes. Also there was no copy of paperwork offered for customer retention, meaning there is no protection to customers should the agency impose costs against blocked credit card deposits after customer departure. This is not a business, it is a racket. "

The whole process was so slow and we experienced the most highly pressurised selling of additional insurance ever. The man was rude, aggressive and indicated that we would not be able to have the car unless we took up the excess insurance. He also told us that if we didn't take up the additional insurance he would check the car rigorously for any minor scratch and it would cost us dearly. " For previous car rentals, I had become a firm supporter of Auto Europe, but am now very wary of the car hire deals on offer. Avis themselves at Tivat Airport told customers not to use Auto Europe in future, but to book direct with Avis for the same or better price. I have since found out that Avis at Tivat are renowned for scams, and Auto Europe should have been aware of this and removed them from their list. "
" This was probably the WORST car hire experience I have ever had. Avis insisted that the Auto Europe voucher excluded any insurance which is mandatory for cars in Montenegro. I was forced to pay an additional 152.45 Euros for insurance. After returning home I see that the 152 Euros is shown as an OPTIONAL extra and included an item marked miscellaneous services for 24.55 euros, which was never explained or advised. Upon returning the car Avis tried to tell me that there were scratches which would be chargeable damage. These scratches were almost invisible minor surface scratches that would easily be polished out, and were almost certainly there when I hired the car. Luckily, I was early for my flight so able to spend time arguing, and eventually was not charged for 'damage'. I found the whole experience extremely upsetting which spoiled my whole vacation. "

However it ran OK and the the rental staff were friendly enough. "

" First time I have experienced a car rental company trying to charge you the parking when coming out of the car park after picking the car up!! I finally made them pay but you should not have to go through this hassle. Also, when giving me back the deposit on my credit card, they had to charge me £0.01....They could not do otherwise apparently!!! First time, it also happened to me. It is not the amount which bothers me, it is the principle! These 2 experiences left me with a bad impression. I have rented many cars over the last 20 years and it is the 1st time this happened to me. "

" Not a Yaris. Well used car, unexpected for a Hertz brand vehicle. Nearly 80,000 kilos on clock. Lots of unrepaired scrapes and minor damage all around the lower edges and bumpers of the car both at the front and rear. Less so or the doors, just a few minor dents and the odd scrape. Cigarette burn on passenger seat. Car ran reliably enough though. Not supplied full of fuel. The usual Podgorica Airport seven eights full. Had to complain before local agent accompanied me to local petrol station to fill up the car ( at Hertz's agent expense ). Quick pick up and drop off, but recording the amount of previous damage slowed the process slightly. Otherwise OK "

" Due to a very long flight delay and arriving at a different airport, we were transported to Tivat by coach arriving at midnight. The very charming and helpful rep brought the car to us himself regardless of the late hour. He was extremely polite and helpful which was much appreciated as we were very tired. "
