" I booked a medium sized petrol car and received a hybrid Jeep Grand Cherokee. Several times i wasn't able to get it out of park. I had to switch the car off, open the door, close it and switch it back on to be able to move the button into drive or reverse. Worst car I have ever driven and hated every minute of it for the 2 weeks I had it. No alternative was available so I was stuck with a car that was far too big for what I wanted or asked for. "

" Even though I was collecting slightly later than expected the process was slow as counter staff were trying to log on to their terminals but gave up and ended up using one terminal which delayed myself and others. They didn't seem to be bothered that there were people waiting. I'm never a fan of collecting from a poorly lit multi-storey as was the case in this instance. The car had been cleaned but the rear window had a sticky substance affected the rear-view which was only apparent later. The bodywork was marked/scratched on nearly. every panel and part of door handle was missing. For a relatively low mileage car it was looking a bit worse for wear. In addition the interior smelled stale and sweaty. The worst part was a safety issue, when we were driving in a heavy downpour on the interstate the windshield wipers were terrible and did little to help visibility. "

" Picked up the car in New Orleans Canal St branch. The first car they allocated to me had a spacesaver spare on one wheel. The second car was a two year old 40,000 mile Nissan Murano with a dent in every panel and a chip in the windscreen. It also needed a proper clean inside the windows in particular were filthy. I accepted it because by now I was running late and I had zero excess cover otherwise it would have taken 10 minutes just to log the dents and scratches. Car ran fine but not really what I expect from a rental vehicle "

" The car was not as we had booked we wanted the size of a Ford Edge but received a Buick Enclave which was much larger and less fuel efficient. We covered 2000 miles so paid more for fuel than anticipated. The car had already covered 18000 miles so we put the mileage up to over 20000. "

" No problem with Alamo per se but New Orleans airport is absolutely crap! The pick-up and drop off were miles away, took 45minutes to get there and drop off. We were fortunate enough to take our car back the night before we left as we knew it might be more than an hour before we could get into check-in at the airport. The car was a black Crysler and was lovely, comfortable and easy to drive. Warn anyone picking up in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA to leave early when taking the car back as it can be quite a nightmare! "

" The pick up counter service was confusing. We left with 3 different estimated amounts to be charged. The car was smaller than we expected and barely fitted our 3 cases in. There were many blind spots on the car making driving difficult and disconcerting in a foreign country. The GPS was useless. The unit wouldn't hold any charge and regularly got lost. We gave up and got through using google maps - not happy to have paid for GPS we couldn't really use. The car was economical. Half way through the hire the controls gave message that service was overdue and required immediate action. We spent about 2 hrs trying to get an answer on whether we could continue to drive or needed to exchange the car. We also wanted to cancel the additional driver we had set up. Phone wasn't answered before 9am - this included roadside assistance!! - and then we were sent around the houses to 4 or 5 different branches before being told we needed the first office we called. Then we couldn't get an answer. We gave up having wasted enough of our holiday time already. When returning the car we explained our difficulties re GPS etc and we're basically ignored the lady just put the GPS behind her and carried on. I wouldn't look at Dollar/Thrifty again in the USA - not sure where the famous American customer Service was but we certainly didn't see any of it! "

" When we arrived at New Orleans Airport, we were told by Budget that although they had our pre-paid reservation through Autoeurope, they had no cars to give us. We then had to pay $100 for a taxi to our destination, and come back again the next day when they eventually did give us a car. I am still waiting to receive my $100 back from Budget and I have received no compensation for the 24 hours I paid for without a rental car. "

" On collection of car they did not have the vehicle in the compact range available, so we were asked for another $65 to upgrade to an suv, but declined paying the extra. After a while when our compact vehicle did not arrive they did offer an upgrade to an suv at no extra cost which we agreed. We were happy with the Ford edge we were offered and a quick check of it everything seemed to be in order. After setting off on a 2000 mile journey we had planned I noticed the inside of the windscreen was very dirty and had to clean it for proper vision. Also on checking the engine oil after the first day found it to be low as well as the windscreen washer fluid had not been topped up. After considerable bother we eventually drove into Budget in Memphis Airport where they did indeed top the oil and windscreen water up. However this cost us around a day of our holiday sorting all this out which we were not happy about as the vehicle should have been properly checked over before we were handed the keys "
