" There were two problems with hiring through Auto Europe that impacted my experience. Your website / the booking said nothing about hiring to drive in other countries. In the Balkans it is very normal to drive between other countries, I only knew that we needed permission and to pay extra to do this because my local assistant phoned to ask. Secondly, though I kept entering the search to pick up in city and return to airport, these options didn't come up. Again, my assistant asked and got the cost to do this and it worked fine, but such obvious information should be available at the time of booking. For the latter you do make clear that there may be local costs. "

" Renting with Alamo by Enterprise via Auto Europe and the Boulevard Ilinden office in Skopje was a very good experience. Good customer service at this central office over the road from the Government of North Macedonia buildings. The only problem was that I picked up from the city and returned to the airport. I didn't know you needed a key card to enter the rental car return car park and my wife had to run into the terminal to get someone from the desk who came out to let us in. That was stressful. I am not sure if I had been given a card. I will know next time. On a positie note the office manager had upgraded me for free from a small car to a new Opal Crosslander which was very nice. "

" Speedy vehicle collection but car not inspected at time of hire for damage and not noted on paperwork. Drivers mat loose and curled - had to remove for duration of hire. Neither item caused any real problem. "

" If my only experience had been the service I received when picking up the car, I'd have been very happy. I was very unhappy with the call centre in the UK and this would put me off using the company in future "

" The person at the pick up point was very helpful indeed. I found the call centre staff very unhelpful. When I was asking a question about GPS, they referred me twice to a number in Macedonia where they couldn't understand what I was saying. They refused to find out the answer for me. It was also an extremely unhelpful response about whether I could arrange to take the car into Albania. Quoting a paragraph saying I'd need to pay the whole price of the car as a deposit and a few for crossing the border is a ridiculous response. Why not just say no? It just infuriates your customers. "
