    Essential for pick-up

Even though different car rental companies have different rules when it comes to what you need to pick up your car hire, these four documents are of the utmost importance and you will most probably be denied the car if you fail to present one of them. Make sure you have them with you when heading to the supplier's desk.

    • Identification: The car rental company need to confirm your identity and verify that you are old enough to rent a car. The same goes for any additional drivers.
    • Driving Licence: A valid driving licence, or a valid driving licence issued from your country of residence and an International Driver's Permit if you are travelling to certain countries.
    • Credit Card: You may be turned away for not having an active credit card with an adequate credit limit that matches the name on your driving licence. A credit card is essential because the car rental company needs to block a deposit to cover incidental charges. These charges can include fuel, going over the allotted amount of miles, and potential damage to or theft of the car.
    • Printed Voucher: Your rental voucher will be sent to you once the reservation is confirmed and must be presented at the time of pick-up.

    Check before you leave

When you pick up your car, make sure you check the inside and outside of the car and make sure there is nothing that could be considered damage when returning the car. Most people just take a quick walk around the car in search of problems that have already been noted by the car rental company. If possible, take pictures of the problems (even small scratches) and have them noted down in your rental agreement.

    • Damage: Scruffs, minor scratches, dents, etc...
    • Tyre Pressure: Be sure to check tyre pressure before you hit the road.
    • Fuel Level: Be sure to check the fuel level while still at the supplier's parking lot.
    • Take Pictures: Take pictures of everything, if possible with date tags.
    • Windshield: Check the windshield, the front and rear wipers and sprayers.
    • Gadgets: Check all the features and gadgets you may find in the car or be presented with (such as a navigation system, radio, etc...)
