" The one drawback of this location is that the address provided by Auto Europe is on Market Street when in fact the office is on 16th Street and when the entire building is closed this is where you have to go to enter the rental office. " This is a summary of my complaint. Alamo Complaint Case No: 42162612: Date Raised 20 May 2023. 1. My poor Alamo experience started when I reminded the front desk that our reservation included a payment supplement for a GPS, but the agent said none of the cars had a GPS and they had no stand-alone units. I insisted that the GPS was essential and the Manager agreed for Alamo to provide a free car upgrade. Why did Alamo accept my reservation in the knowledge that no GPS was available for my category of car? 2. When my credit card was swiped they said the card was "blocked" and could not be processed. I asked if I could pay cash but was told this was not possible. I then asked to use the agent's telephone to call my credit card provider (my cell phone could not get a signal) but the agent said they did not have a telephone. However I manage to provide another credit card that was operational in the US. 3. I paid an additional supplement for a Toll Pass. But later that day the Toll Pass stopped working with me passing through toll booths displaying "Call Svr Ctr". I then stopped at a manual cash booth and the attendant said I should contact Alamo (I paid in in cash). 4. That same day being concerned and not wanting to incur any toll fines or charges I attempted to telephone Alamo @ Philadelphia Airport without success on 3 occasions without success as the agents "were busy assisting others customers". Considering the message says agents are available 24 hours this was a very poor service. 5. The next day the Toll Pass continued not to work. I then telephoned "Roadside Assist" but was told they could not help as the problem could only be correctly by Philadelphia. I again attempted to telephone Alamo @ Philadelphia Airport without success on 5 occasions each time heard the same message 6. The following day again I a telephoned Alamo @ Philadelphia Airport without success on 3 occasions to hear the same "We apologise for the short delay, all representatives are assisting others customers ...." message. I then telephone Alamo Customer Services who raised my complaint. I told the agent that I would not be responsible for any toll charges, fines or administration costs resulting from the faulty toll pass. The agent assured me that all charges would be the responsibility of Alamo. 7. Failing to see what else I could do I telephoned the number on the back of the toll pass (only open Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:00) and expressed my concern to the agent who also confirmed I would not be responsible for any charges with the faulty toll pass because this was provided by Alamo and Alamo are responsible for its correct operation. 8. On returning the car to Philadelphia Airport I spoke with the Manager who confirmed it was not possible to telephone directly with Alamo @ Philadelphia Airport because they did not have telephone access. I was refunded with $90.83 which was the extra payment made at vehicle collection. 9. The rental experience for myself and my wife was very stressful and upsetting which ruined our vacation. Further, how can Alamo accept a contract for a rental to include a GPS when the car reserved does not have a GPS and stand-alone units are not available? I requested Alamo provide a further 50% refund of the vehicle rental cost (in addition to the $90.83 and not in the form of an Alamo account credit) as I consider this both fair and reasonable which in some small way to compensate us for our stressful and time consuming effort to correct the problems caused by Alamo. "

" When paying the deposit we had an issue with the card, the first card didn't work so another was given. The computer did not pick up the name on the card. We offered to pay cash but that was not accepted. The representative (Tim) said this can be an issue with cards that are not American, I pointed out that we are at an International Airpot therefore that seemed surprising. They said that there was no way around the system and the only option was to add my wife as a named driver - this cost $14 a day and we were there for 2 weeks = $196. We explained that this is unfair as it is a computer issue, they had seen the name on the bank cards, passport and driving license all matched. Given that it was a computer issue and nothing else we asked if the manager could be called to waive or reduce the additional driver fee. We then waited nearly 30 minutes for the manager Dave Richardson to come to the desk. He said to Tim I'm surprised they do not understand do they not speak English. My wife is Iranian and was incredibly insulted by this comment. Dave refused to discuss a reduction as he said didn't understand why it should be offered, even though we explained that the issue was the computer and not our card. We paid it as we had our 6 month only baby with us and had done an 8 hour flight and had been in the office for an hour and a half. The car that turned up had a broken gps, and had to be changed. The only car in our price range was not ready so had to be cleaned (5/10mins this took). The car seat for the baby was not clean. It took 2 hours for us to collect a car and leave. This is not good customer service, the staff were so slow and lazy. No one had any effort to help, the manager was asking which member of staff got Chipotle when he walked in to see us and proceeded to have a conversation with the staff about food while there was a huge line and myself and my family were waiting for him for over 30mins. I would never use Dollar again nor would I recommend them, I would like a complaint escalated and consideration given to a refund for at least the additional driver charges. I expect investigation to be made into the comments made by the manager about language as this was incredibly insulting. "

" Three shuttle buses from my preferred hire company passed before the Thrifty bus arrived. I had to wait more than an hour for my car due to a printer malfunction in their office. The counter staff were very good and pleasant, but I don't think I ever saw the posted manager on duty. Then, after waiting an hour to get the car documents, I had to wait another 10 minutes while they prepared the car! They didn't seem to have the cars that had been booked. The drop off experience was smooth. The return shuttle driver was excellent, which boosted my overall review. "

" The service at Philadelphia train station was very poor. We had asked and paid for a car with Sat Nav. The first car we were assured had the sat nav. It didn't, so I had to go back to the desk and ask again. He gave me a new set of keys assuring me that this had Nav. It didn't so I returned to the desk and the third car didn't have Nav. The staff member tried to fob me off with a smaller car, saying none of the cars had Sat Nav. We asked for a refund with the intention of finding another car supplier, but he 'managed' to find a portable Nav in a drawer. The whole experience was very frustrating taking almost an hour and the attitude of the staff was very poor, everything was too much trouble. The car we had, I was assured was full of fuel, but it wasn't. I didn't want an extra bill so I ensured it was full when I returned it at my expense. The car had a small amount of damage on the rear wheel arch, I was assured all damage had been noted but I'm not convinced. In all not a good experience "

" The whole experience was a nightmare. First i didn't receive a confirmation email so when i landed in Philadelphia Airport i didn't know where or who i was picking the car up from. Our friend had to call and ask for instructions. The pick up was ok. Whist using the veichle was encountered problems using the toll roads due to the ez pass being faulty. The box did not close properly so therefore kept being read when approaching the tolls. We were not issued a ticket by the machine and we didn't know why until someone told us it was picking up the pass? This caused considerable stress and anxiety being in a foreign country not knowing what we were doing wrong. When all along it was the box that was faulty. The drop off was poor. The attendant in the car park couldn't issue a receipt so i had to go inside. We were running late for our flight so i joined a long line. Then we were told to go back outside to get my receipt. In the end i went up to the desk and was told to just leave the car. I have a 3 year old who was asleep in the car, my wife is also pregnant, we had 4 bags to unload, and get on to a shuttle bus. It was a very stressful situation and not a very pleasant way to end our holiday. "

Showed me how it all worked, literally less than 10 minutes and we hit the road to New Castle. Returned the car and no bus was there so drive took us straight to the departure doors. Here, to be fair they upgraded us to a Mazda.. However, that morning by the time we finished we had driven over 200miles. The Mazda had only done 9000miles. However, on the second morning it would not start. We were fortunate to be staying at this point with relatives. We phoned the rescue service which Budget used and we were promised another car would be delivered by 9.am the following morning . However, no delivery occurred. Yet another phone call (ruining a well planned day out. )Now after profuse apologies we were asked to drive the car up to Newcastle Airport again. BUT WE HAD MADE CLEAR THE CAR WOULD NOT START. So then we will send the equivalent of our AA to hopefully start it..Two hours later the van arrived ,and the mechanic failed to start it. But finally after 15 minutes it started. Then of course it was a long drive up to Newcastle Airport where they were waiting with a car for us. Unbelievably they despite promises on the phone that they were informed of our arrival they HAD NOT. The B UDGET man on duty said this was against all the rules it should have happened as originally promised. But luckily he was a person of gumption, and he had a Malibu available , and thankfully we were back 'home' in an hour with a third car "

" The rep was friendly and welcoming; the allotted car (infinity G37) was not clean so I was given another G37 that had a smoking-residue odour that didn't come out. I replaced the car at Newark airport, the only one they had in the class was a Hyundai Genesis, which I don't like as much as an infinity or Lincoln but I took it as I couldn't stand the odour. I tried to switch to an infinity or Lincoln unsuccessfully at JFK and Newark; finally, 2 days later I got a Lincoln - but I had to drive back to Philadelphia to get it (a 1.5 hour drive). The Lincoln was perfect - just what I was expecting; if I were to get it from the beginning (or a clean and odourless Infinity) - the experience would have been perfect. "
