    Choosing the right Motorhome

Choosing the right motorhome for your upcoming holidays is not easy as you may think. First of all you should consider what are your priorities, do you prefer a big motorhome to have more space or you feel more comfortable driving a small one? but yet your are not sure if you would like to scarify the so needed space?. Auto Europe will provide some useful information to help you clarify all your doubts and make you choose just the right vehicle for you and your beloved ones.

There are many questions especially if it is your first time renting a RV, it is important to take into account the followings criteria:

    • Correct number of passengers: Be aware that children, no matter which age they are, still count as passengers. They must be sited and safety fasted when you are driving so please take this into consideration.
    • Sleeping space: You need to check carefully the sleeping capacity and the layout of the vehicle you are interested in. Make sure that it sleeps comfortably all the passengers.
    • Living area: As you motorhome will be your little house during your holidays consider to have enough space to eat and move to enjoy your meal or the time with your beloved.
    • Storage space: Depending on how many items or piece of luggage are you carrying with you you should consider a vehicle that have enough storage. This will avoid to "invade" your living and sleeping areas with your suitcases.

    Different types of motorhomes

Suppliers are offering many different types of motorhomes, below an explanation of the most common types and their features.

    Class A

    Motorhome Class A
The largest motorhome available. It is basically a small apartment on wheels ideal for a large family or a group of friends that are seeking to camp and travel comfortably and on style. The typical shape of these vehicles is "bus alike" they are in fact built on either a commercial truck or a bus chassis. This RVs are quite big and heavy therefore not so easy to drive especially for first time motorhomes drivers.

    Class B

    Motorhome Class B
It is basically a small van, most are featured with a basic kitchen, a sleeping area and sometimes a toilet. Perfect for a couple or few friends. Due to their sizes these vehicles are relatively easy to drive especially if you are also planning to visit cities or small villages with narrow roads.

    Class C

    Motorhome Class C
This motorhome is built on a truck chassis and has an extra space, usually this space is used as a sleeping area over the driver’s compartment. Class C motorhomes are quite spacious with a dining area, a kitchen and a bathroom. Great choice for a family as it provides comfort without having the difficulties of a large vehicle.

    Important tips

No matter which vehicle you are choosing we always suggest to pay attention to:

    • Braking: Motorhomes and RVs are of course heavier than a car therefore they need and extra time to stop. Always keep a safe distance.
    • Parking and Backing Up: Most motorhomes have a backup camera but most of the times is not enough. Always ask another passenger to help you and give you directions.
    • Bridges & Underground Parkings: before hitting the road check you vehicle height and avoid low bridges or underground parkings that will not allowed such as hight vehicle. To do so plan your routes using a RV GPS or by researching them before your journey and plan alternative roads.
    • Uphills & downhill roads: A motorhome is an heavy vehicle therefore do not expect them to be fast on uphills roads. Always keep a low gears and simply take your time and do not feel stressed by the other vehicles behind you. Stay in the right lane to give more space to the other cars in case they want to pass you. On Downhill road be careful not to let your vehicle gain too much speed, always keep a low gear.
    • Choose Truck stops over Small Gas Stations When possible always choose truck stops over normal gas stations when you will need to refill your vehicle. The majority of truck stops will have separate gas pumps and are more spacious giving you plenty of space to park and move.
