" The staff were good and efficient. The vehicle handover was in a poorly lit covered car park the overall condition of the vehicle was as expected minor scratches and signs by of wear. I didn't notice the condition of the tyres was unacceptable. 3 of the tyres were worn beyond the wear indicator and on one it was particularly worn where wire was exposed. The wiper blades were also so worn they were ineffective not a problem in the sun but we still needed to clean the screen periodically. The handover was fine and I did point out to the agent the issue. Hopefully they will be addressed. "

" At first we were skeptical cause of the reviews. We were very worried when we encountered the tyre and road side assistance issue. But after our experience, as described above, would have no hesitation booking again with them. "
" We booked an economy car, which was great when we picked it up. After getting to our location, the tyre went flat. We couldn't change it as the wheel brace was worn out. Called roadside assistance and they wanted to charge us €170, which was unacceptable as it wasn't our fault that we couldn't change it(this service is sub-contracted). We managed to replace it with the help from family. We found that the tyre was worn down to the steel, hence why it flattened. Next day we went to the airport counter. We were given a replacement car with no issues. They only had an upgrade car and they provided us with it with no hesitation. "

The staff member advised this was fine although at this stage the engine was not sounding normal. He did not seem to understand the meaning of warning lights and said the car would be fine. " I was about to email your customer services of my experience. Firstly, I would like to add that when I handed my license to the person at the desk,he said my license expires at the end of the day , which means it was still valid for the collection . I went online to find that I could renew it immediately online and the license would be fine . I also showed the the person and he said he would have to call his manager, while this was happening i filled in the online form which was straight forward within minutes and showed him proof that I had a new licence which actually arrived at my home address within 3 days ( received before I returned back to the Uk ) . He said that the only way I could hire the vehicle was to take the full insurance with them , explained to him how does that make a difference if you are saying my license is not valid , he replied if anything happens to the vehicle we are covered !! Couldn't understand, so they are letting me drive but without a valid license, absolutely absurd!! He showed proof that my online application was approved and also states that I'm allowed to to drive , he wasn't having it , all he said was if you take the full insurance at 135 Euros I could take the car . They obviously knew that i couldn't do anything and took advantage. The full Cover if required when taking the car was originally £29.50, how the got 135 euros was rediculous, the hire of the vehicle was only £40 !! Plus on top of this , when I went to the vehicle it has damage on nearly every panel apart from the roof, the passenger side door couldn't be opened from the outside , the man said don't worry about the damage as I have full cover , that wasn't the point , I had to attend a wedding in a car that looked bad , even previous damage that had been repaired badly could be seen, plus covered in Sciclybycar stickers. Then once o actually got in the car the management light was on and said engine failure , the man said don't worry. Then at night I could see a thing when a on coming car was coming towards me as the internal screen was so dirty , I had to clean it when I got back to the hotel and asked them for something to clean the screen with . I have hired multiple cars through yourselves and this I must say was the worst . Ps I would like to add that I also have my own private excess refund and the company didn't car about that either . Extra insurance that cost me nearly 4 times this original hire cost and the car was an old banger that had nearly 54k on the clock. Ps the steering wheel was also not central, the car pulled to the left and the tyres where very close to the legal limit, worn on one side obviously due to the geometry out . "

" The car that was provided by Sicily By Car had 5 engine fault lights showing on the display. When I raised this with the person who gave us the car he just said 'It will be OK' which I really new it wasn't, and should have refused the car in hindsight. The car had very little power in the higher gears and regularly had to be put in first gear to climb gradients. As it happens we managed relatively well for the 2 weeks we had the car, but I think you should be aware of the condition of vehicles they are providing. As I have said I should have refused the car but was of the opinion that another car may be in the same condition. Again I should really have refused to take the car, but after a long journey we just wanted to get to our accommodation. I am happy to provide photos of the display should you require them showing the fault lights. They were all amber lights, and I know from experience that this is not particularly a problem, but I believe they did affect the performance and they should have been rectified by the company. "

" We are renting vehicles on a regular basis in many different countries in Europe and abroad over the past 20 years. This was the worst experience we ever encountered. We had a long waiting time at the pick-up - this can happen, but 5(!) customer service people were present at the branch, but only two of them were actually doing them job in helping people to check in. The vehicle we received was the worst car I ever drove. There was damage all over it and some parts were missing or obviously replaced, There was evidence that this car has had serious damage, which looked like it has had an accident in the past. The tires were run off on the inside and this would definitely be illegal to drive at least in other EU countries. The worst thing though was that the alignment and the power steering were completely out of order. The front axe wheels were not aligned at all and the car and the steering wheel were shaking when driving. When we returned the car we told the costumer service person about the problems with the car. Unfortunately he took this personal, although we said nothing bad to him. He told me I was making 'trouble'. You can be assured that I will not make any 'trouble' anymore and will never rent a car from Sicily by car. By the way - we saw a lot of cars on the islands that looked like ours. "

On collection of the car I was told that as I am 76 years old they would have to contact their insurance company as their driver upper age limit is 75 - trying for extra fees? I refused any such action or potential extra charges, as Auto Europe conditions at the time of booking said the upper age limit is 80. Then they altered my date of birth to get my age under 75?? I took the car, and realised that I was fortunate that I was not involved in an accident as I would possibly(probably) been classed as uninsured. I checked the Sicily by Car website on my return home, and their conditions do state that the upper age limit is 75, which is different to when I last booked with them via Auto Europe in December 2022. The latter may have not been informed of the change, or has not been diligent in updating their website conditions. "

" I added all risk insurance via you. First thing SBC said you need insurance. That one is not with us. Then in your contract I had to leave a 650 Euro security. They demanded 1000 Euro and blamed the incorrect amount on you. I booked full tank out, full tank in. They refused and gave me a totally empty tank. Staff were rude and unhelpful. On return the Indian guy who checked the car over tried to screw me on an existing damage, that was made worse than when I picked up the car, according to him. His damage report he made when I picked up the car was conveniently confusing, obviously done on purpose, so they would have an argument into their advantage. They simply said you loose your 1000 Euros. I asked for the manager. They called him. Two hours later, still nobody. Again and again I asked for the manager. 20 minutes later he came. He checked the computer for a previous damage report and found that indeed that damage was already there and he could do nothing else but agree with me and said change the return form into "All okay". This is an old damage that they use time after time to get hold of the security. They never repair any damage. It is a disgrace. Italian mafia. And your company is offering their business. You should kick them out. "

Second vehicle had similar problems with engine management lights, plus tyre pressure monitoring faults, AND I lost 45euros worth of fuel put in first car as second car had little fuel after I was told to take it back empty - big deal! Company representative said that most vehicles have similar problems - "they probably can't be reset by computer"! Probably the reason is that the cars are never serviced! We waited ignored by the staff who occupied themselves with paperwork and then the greeting was "you're late". It had taken time to get through the airport arrivals due to COVID paperwork queues. The car was in terrible condition, literally holes in it, wing mirror backs missing, severely dented all over. We said we wouldn't accept it. They told us all their cars were like that, they were cheap to rent and so that's what you got. Have rented using Auto Europe many times and have never been provided with such poor quality car. We were shown other cars, all in similar condition. I think you should consider removing from your list of providers in Malta. "
