" We had pre-booked and prepaid for our car rental and also provided our arrival time. When we arrived at the thrifty car rental desk at Toronto airport, after a long flight, we were told that there were no cars available and that we would have to wait for about an hour. An hour later they presented us a compact SUV car and proceeded to say that this is the standard SUV category which we had booked when the website clearly showed that it was the smaller size. We were travelling with two kids each of them having their car seats and two large suitcases and 2 small carry-ons along with a pram which was impossible to fit in a compact SUV. For those reasons we had booked a standard SUV which was supposed to be a Toyota RAV4 or similar. When we rejected the compact SUV, we were told that we would have to wait for another hour before we could get the car. Even after the long wait, we were provided smaller cars so we continue to wait until a standard SUV category car appeared on there lots. After about 3.5 hours of wait we finally managed to get a car which was the category that we had booked. The waiting part was completely unacceptable especially after a long international flight and having booked the car weeks in advance. Our misery did not stop upon getting the right size car after 3.5 hours, as soon as we left we realized that the wheels on the car were unbalanced and the whole car vibrated while on highway speeds. We felt very unsafe to drive around in a car like that however we were on a holiday and could not waste any more time waiting for another car to appear which could take hours. Hence we proceeded to keep the car for the entire rental duration but we have been completely dissatisfied by the service and the attitude thrifty rental desk has exhibited. "

The representative put me through to Thrifty, but it wasn't Thrifty Canada, so I had to speak to someone else. The first Auto Europe representative I spoke to was helpful when my flight out to Montreal was delayed. "

I spent 45 minutes on the phone talking to representatives who told me it would be possible, and there would be no charge, only to be told that the computer systems would not allow the change. " We initially booked for a Dodge Charger (or similar) with Avis, and we received a confirmation of the booking over a week before, and then 48 hours before the pick up we received a phone call/mail from AEUK saying that Avis had cancelled our reservation. We had no other choice than to accept a booking with Thrifty for a Toyota Camry. AEUK claimed that the category was the same but a Dodge Charger at Thrifty is in a superior category so I consider being downgraded for the same cost. We had made that reservation with Avis because we knew that had Chargers since we rented one in May at the exact same agency. I was told to discuss this with the customer service of AutoEurope and not the reservation people, I'm still looking for their contact... "

" We collected the Dodge Grand Caravan from Toronto Pearson Airport without having to wait very long. The counter manager was polite and efficient. The caravan only had 14,200 km on the clock. The trim level was very high with GPS, heated and power front seats, heated steering wheel which was a luxury in the cold weather during the two week rental period. We did not have to pay for anything additional, extra driver, waiver to excess, free tank of fuel were all included, just as the contract.
