5 holiday reads to pack in your suitcase this summer

“The sea, sun and a book” sounds like a perfect combination for a relaxing holiday. Brits spend a lot of time reading on holiday, reading approximately 2.5 books each. That leaves us with the never-ending story question, what titles to take on holiday. And that means two or three books. Our blog is going to give you some inspiration for the summer reads.

    1. Captain Corelli’s Mandolin by Louis de Bernières

A classic love story set on the Greek island of Cephalonia during the Second World War, when the German and Italian armies occupy the island. Love founds its way to the hearts of a Greek girl Pelagia and Antonio Corelli, an Italian army captain. The book was filmed in 2001, starring Nicolas Cage and Penélope Cruz.

    2. Us by David Nichols

The author of Starter for Ten and One Day, tells his new story about middle-age love and marriage crisis. Douglas Petersen is confronted by his wife Conny saying their marriage might be over just before they are off to a capital-tour in Europe.

    3. Modern Lovers by Emm Straub
Former college band members still hold to their young aspirations as they watch they children grow in Brooklyn. The novel captures the middle-age dilemmas and passions of tight-friends’ couples in a playful way.

    4. The Island by Victoria Hislop

The Island is another history-romance novel on our list set in Greece, this time on the island of Spinalonga, off Creete’s coast. The story begins when a 25-year-old Alexis Fielding travels from home London to the small village on Crete, Plaka, where her mother was born, to learn about the history of her family.

    5. Jonathan Unleashed by Meg Rosoff

A novel on love and friendship. The main protagonist dog-sits the Border Collie and Cocker Spaniel of his brother. During the walks and in between visiting the vet, Jonathan goes on a venture to answer questions about life.
