Child Bollards to Slow Down Motorists

According to the Daily Mail and the Daily Telegraph bollards are being made to look like children in order to slow people down around school areas. Over half a dozen of these fake 'children' have been placed around primary schools in Leicester in the hope that drivers will reduce the speed of their vehicles. If they prove successful, then they may be placed all around the city.

Spokesman Patrick Kitterick explained: 'It's an experiment, it's the first time we've done it in the city and we will see if these bollards have a bigger effect.' With regards to asking the public, he said: 'There's been a mixed reaction. Some people find them scary with these big eyes staring at you, but others find them amusing.The bollards cost £350 each and I must say that they are pretty scary. However, if they do work in slowing traffic down then it will be seen as a positive investment.'

The RAC have aired their concerns that the bollards will only distract drivers from concentrating on the road and there's always the possibility that they will be vandalised.
