    F1 - Race 6 - Monaco

F1 flagThis weekend saw probably the most famous F1 race take place in the streets of Monaco. Six weeks of preparation were involved getting the streets ready for this prestigious event. Qualifying saw the start of the drama with Fernando Alonso not being able to take part due to a crash in practice. Red Bull once again had a great start with Mark Webber getting pole position for the second time in a row, something he has never done before. Robert Kubica got 2nd and Sebastian Vettel was 3rd. Race day and the first few laps brought about some surprises. Alonso had to start from the pit lane so was at the back of the field. Nico Hulkenberg had a smash in the tunnel and the safety car came out. This gave Alonso the opportunity to change tyres early on without losing position. Then lap 3 saw Jenson Button out of the race when his car began to emit smoke and ground to a halt. It was lap 6 before the safety car left the track. Virgin saw their first casualty in Timo Glock on lap 24 with suspension damage and at the same time Pedro De la Rosa was out. The other Virgin car of Lucas di Grassi retired 3 laps later with a loose wheel. Alonso gradually gained position and by lap 27 was on Hamiltons tail in 7th position. Lap 31 and Rubens Barrichello had problems with a rear wheel and smashed into the barriers and ends up facing the wrong way! Safety car was brought back out causing another 2 lap frustration for Mark Webber. But he more than makes up for it with his lap time getting faster nearly every lap and by lap 54 is 4.2 seconds ahead of Vettel which increased to 5.7 seconds by lap 66. Lap 74 saw a nasty crash between Jarno Trulli and Karun Chandhok with Trulli's car actually going over the top of Chankhoks. The safety car came out yet again. By the time it came in the race was over and Mark Webber won his second consecutive race. The final drama was Michael Schumacher overtaking Alonso on the last lap to finish 6th. Silly man! With a penalty of 20 seconds added to his time for a breach of rules his 6th position become 12th! Another great race with Red Bull once again dominating the podium. Next race is in Turkey in two weeks time. Last year Red Bull took 2nd and 3rd, can they make it 1st and 2nd again?
