Friday Drivetime - Your Ultimate Driving Songs, What's Your Genre?
After a great run of Back to the Decades where we went from today all the way back to the 1940's and have seen some great artists emerge that have influenced music today, we thought we would look at the different Genres that music fits into. There are hundreds out there, but we'll be looking at some of the best such as Rock, Pop, Metal, Grunge and Dance, just to name a few. This week we thought we would start easy, the wonderful world of Pop music. Developed in the mid 1950s, this genre has a focus on commercial music. Mostly aimed at the youth market it primarily focuses on an individual song rather than a whole album, aims to appeal to a general audience rather than a specific type of sub culture and progresses with the trends in music rather than being in a class of it's own.Personally, I am probably one of the biggest fans I know of pop music. I find it fun, uplifting and generally feel good music. It's something I usually drive home and listen to so I can wind down from a hard days work. For our Top Ten this week we'll see some of the most influential people in the Pop industry, I am sure you will recognise all the names! What's Your Genre? Pop Music Top Ten:
