While New Year's Eve is by many considered to be a time for celebrating, enjoying life and making less than advisable decisions under the influence of more than advisable amounts of alcohol, January on the other hand is the time for big decisions, optimistic planning of the year ahead, and resolutions that will probably not reach past February. All the same, the beginning of a new year feels like a refreshing renewal when we have the chance to become everything we wish to become and do all we set out to do for the next 365 days. So here are 5 New Year Resolutions for the coming year :)
1. Visit the Taj Mahal
- The most famous mausoleum in the world, the Taj Mahal combines a romantic history with gorgeous architecture, and is one of those landmarks everyone should see at least once in their lifetime.
2. Do a Grand Tour
- Because it's delightfully pompous and incredibly decadent, and it's a pity such a charming institution fell into disuse (calling it an inter-rail doesn't sound nearly as important). I doubt I could get my hands on a coach, but I could pick up a car hire in Calais
and make a road trip across Europe!
3. Visit Petra
- A haunting reminder that we're all little specs of dust and that one day, our cities will also be just mere ruins, the impressive reminders of fallen empires. Also, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was set there. And that's just way cool.
4. Get better acquainted with Thai food. In Thailand.
It's spicy, and colourful, and amazingly varied. And the food is pretty awesome too! ;) For people interested in cooking, there are also several hotels that offer cooking courses! And while there, a car hire in Bangkok
would be perfect for a few day trips!
5. Tour the UK.
Because it's shameful to set off to explore the world while knowing so little of one's own backyard. Stonehenge, Windsor Castle, Hadrian's Wall and The White Cliffs of Dover are only some of the awesome sights that can't be missed!
These are some of my resolutions for 2012. What are yours? :)
