Summer festivals are in full swing. With Glastonbury and Roskilde 2017 already over, there are more open air music events with fantastic line-ups taking place this summer. Music festivals are an excellent opportunity to get together with your friends and celebrate music. Take a look at the list of selected upcoming events in Europe and beyond.
Wacken Open Air
Our list opens with a strong sound from Wacken in the north of Germany. This is the largest heavy-metal festival in the world and has been held annually since 1990 in a small town some fifty miles northwest of Hamburg. Wacken Open Air, or simply W.O.R., began as a local bands festival and grew to be the biggest global heavy-metal open air event. This year’s line-up includes Clawfinger, Apocalyptica, and Marilyn Manson, to name just a few. This feast of heavy-metal is a must-visit for all fans of this music genre.
San Francisco, CA, USA
Fast-forward to San Francisco in sunny California. Based in Golden Gate Park, Outside Land festival celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and the organisers have prepared a real treat for music fans. The festival line-up boasts headliners such as Metallica, the Who, Gorillaz, A Tribe Called Quest, Empire Of The Sun, Queens Of The Stone Age, Schoolboy Q, Rebelution, Future Islands, Vance Joy, and Kaytranada.
Welcome to the Valley! Our next pick is Dance Valley in the Netherlands, a one-day festival with electronic dance music performed by top DJs. For over two decades, the event has gathered large audience, providing world-class electronic performances, and this year will be no different. Dance Valley hosts the biggest names in electronic music, from trance, techno and house to hardstyle.
We are moving further down Europe to Hungary’s capital, Budapest. Sziget Festival is held on an island on the Danube River in northern Budapest. For a couple of days in August, the island transforms into the largest festival in Europe with over 1000 performances. This year, music fans will be able to hear names such as PJ Harvey, Interpol, The Kills, Tom Odell, and P!NK. Budapest’s famous festival island is a place of unique atmosphere and home to music concerts that will create lasting memories.
Daresbury, Cheshire, England
Creamfields, an iconic dance music festival with DJs and live acts, takes place over the August Bank Holiday weekend. This year is expected to be the best yet, as it marks its 20th anniversary. Some of the heavyweight names of this year’s edition line-up include Above & Beyond, Faithless and Fatboy Slim.
