    MobileIt has been a bit of a travel revolution. In the past tourists would stand at the Spanish Steps or on a street in New York struggling with travel books, fold-out map and crumpled photocopies.

    Now tourists use their Smartphone to get all the information they need with apps that can help tourists before and during the holiday.

    Here are our favourite apps for 2013.

    Your Passenger Rights

    Here is the app for the sour situation that can occur when you as a passenger need to know the law and your rights when you experience cancellations or delays. The app called Your Passenger Rights is made by the European Commission and is free for iPhone and Android.


    It might not be able to save you from a screaming child or a speed-talking CEO next to you, but SeatGuru can give you an overview of the aircraft and the best and worst places seats of the plane. The best seats are marked in green, standard seats in white, while less comfortable seats are marked with yellow and the worst are marked in red. This app allows you to choose a good seat when you do your online check-in and is free for iPhone and Android

    City Walks

    City Walks allows you to explore foreign cities through self-guided walking tours in over 470 cities worldwide while you move between all the major attractions in the cities - and you do not need to use the local network or use data roaming. This is a great way to avoid hop on/hop off buses and instead make your way around the city at your own pace.The most popular cities costs approx. 4 Pounds for iPhone and is also available for Android, where the prices vary by city.

    Speak Thai

    Are you one of the many people who enjoy a yearly vacation in Thailand? Then you should consider this smart app phrasebook, where you can choose between many different topics, such as shopping, hotels and restaurant experiences and then handpick the many different phrases to be translated into Thai. It's a fun tool to play with, and you can either learn phrases or words to use when speaking to the waiter, porter or masseuse on the beach. The app is free for iPhone and Android.

    City Maps 2Go

    You wander around confused in Phnom Penh while looking for a very special silk shop. But you just cannot find it. At that moment, the City Maps 2Go could be a great help, because it has a map of most of the world with a built-in GPS function - and you do not need an internet connection to access the maps. This app is available for iPhone and Android.


    Most people have experienced sitting in a nice restaurant and falling in love with a local wine. You promise to yourself to remember the name of the wine, so you can buy it online when you get home. But somehow you always forget. Here the app, Vivino, comes into the picture.
