    Things you should know when hiring a car 2

    Happy Friday! This week we bring you a quick checklist to help you make sure you know all you need to about your car and the terms of your vehicle before setting off on your journey. Let's get started.

    1. Do you know what car rental company you booked with?

    Auto Europe is a broker, so when you book a car with us, you're actually booking with one of the many international and local car hire suppliers we work with. You can see the supplier of each car when you make a search in our booking engine, and that information is also on your voucher.

    2. Do you know where the pick up desk is located?

    Most of our clients book their car at an airport location. The thing to know about airport locations is that they aren't always strictly located at the airport. Sometimes, some car rental providers have their desks 'off airport', with a shuttle bus taking clients so that they can pick up the car. You can find that information on your voucher, under 'Pick up information' or on our site's 'Terms, Conditions and Local fees' section.     3. Do you know the excess amount?

    Knowing the excess amount is important because it allows you to consider in advance how you wish to address it. Do you wish to take on additional insurance locally to cover it? Do you prefer to make your own separate insurance arrangements? Have you heard about Auto Europe's Excess Refund? Maybe you're fine with having the excess and don't feel you need any extra coverage. These are all important things to consider in advance. You should also be aware that very often, the excess amount is the amount the car supplier will block as a security deposit.

    4. Do you know what documents you'll need to pick up the car?

    One of the most common reasons for people to be denied a car at the desk or to have to pay for additional insurance locally is the lack of proper documentation. Here is what you will need:- The voucher. Auto Europe sends you the voucher by email after the car is confirmed. You should print it, carefully read the Terms and Conditions, and then take it with you to pick up the car.

    - A valid Driver's License. If you have a UK driver's license, you'll need both parts of the license. In some countries, an International Driver's License is also necessary. It is the client's responsibility to know whether that is the case in the country they're travelling to.
    - A credit card in the name of the main driver. Make sure it's an actual credit card and in the name of the driver as stated on the voucher. Some credit cards are normally not accepted, namely Diner's Club and American Express. Make sure you read the relevant information on your voucher.
    - A passport.
