Travel Trivia Tuesday 18
Congratulations Claire, for your correct answer to last week's question. The building pictured is the Eglise de la Madeleine. Now for this week's continental brain-teaser...It's an undeniable fact that one of the greatest French exports is Champagne. Amongst this beverage's legion of famous fans was our own Winston Churchill, who once remarked: 'Champagne is the wine of civilization and the oil of government.'Champagne is a light sparkling wine which is made only in north eastern France. It is different from all other sparkling wines in the world for three major reasons. First, a wine can only be labelled as 'champagne' if is made in the Champagne region of France. Secondly, champagne has to have gained its bubbles by undergoing the fermentation process twice: once in barrels and again in bottles. Thirdly, it must be made only from a choice of three specific types of grape grown in the region. Can you name one? Bonus points if you know all three!
