It's an exciting, vibrant city that offers great food, shopping and nightlife but for most visitors the ruins of the Empire are the most highly anticipated attractions in the city.Rome is nicknamed 'the eternal city' for a good reason - you never run out of things to see! From the Colosseum to the Palatine and Roman Forum, the Trevi Fountain and catacombs, it displays all the landmarks of its history in spectacular fashion.One of the city's outstanding architectural monuments is illustrated below. It has served Roman emperors as a mausoleum, several popes as a fortress and as a bulwark of the defensive wall that once surrounded Rome. Can you name it?
