" Kept waiting more than 20 mins at the pick up point for rental shuttle at Washington Dulles airport. All other rental companies had a virtually continuous flow of buses to pick up customers. Then treated me like a worthless customer by the check in staff - they claimed my car was no longer there as I was 3 hours late - in fact I was 2hrs 20 mins which also included the 20 mins plus waiting time for the airport pick up. I told the representative that I was delayed because flight was delayed from London due to a tyre having to be replaced on the aircraft. Car in class I booked not available due to delay so they offered to upgrade me but I had to pay more despite paying for my rental up front - would not let me have the car for the same price. Said my car was in lowest class so nothing available in a lower class. The pressure from the staff was very strong and aggressive. However I stood my ground and after a significant time and the rep talking to his manager I finally got a car for the price already paid. What was also interesting was that the same tactic was also employed on another customer just as I was finishing up - shameful behaviour. One of the worst experiences ever renting a car - totally and utterly unacceptable behaviour. Scam artists / rip off merchants. "

" I'm less likely to recommend Auto Europe to a friend than I was, this is despite me using Auto Europe for many years. Here is the issue. I booked a 'Chevy Tahoe 7 Pax or similar'. Hoping for a Tahoe, on pick-up the Hertz operative assured me in no uncertain terms, I would NEVER get a Tahoe with the booking class Auto Europe sold me which was Hertz L4. Tahoes are a Hertz booking class T. Whilst in general I was OK with the Hyundai I rented, I am interested in your opinion of whether it is OK to sell a customer like me, a 'Chevy Tahoe 7 Pax or similar' when according to Hertz it could never ever ever be a Chevy Tahoe, a Chevy Tahoe was impossible with that booking class. IMO this is a dubious practise, and I may have gone elsewhere as it was a Tahoe I wanted. Please let me know your view. "

We'd booked a Tahoe or similar and the counter staff kept telling us the booking codes didn't align and we'd have to have a Nissan Pathfinder, which wouldn't be big enough for our requirements. Had to make a major point about contact law and they eventually rescinded and found a Tahoe for us. Have heard similar stories about Dulles rentals. So my experience is the counter staff are not very reputable or trustworthy. They also pushed to include tolls for a daily charge knowing we were unlikely to be using toll roads. The next day the car had lost pressure in a tyre which I attended to the next day the tyre was flat. There was no Budget office with 100 miles of where I stayed in N. Carolina, I took the car to a tyre repair and was advised the tyre was bald and illegal (with a nail in it). The tyre was replaced and I await to see if I get my $178 refunded. (This was agreed with Budget before replacing). Nobody at Budget appears concerned that the tyre was bald. "

" Not one that I want to repeat. This is the second issue with car rental companies including my last rental with Hertz through Autoeurope in September 2023 when they insisted that my rental on that occasion was for a standard SUV when I had booked and paid for a full size SUV and they refused to deliver the vehicle that I had booked without a further payment which I refused so had to settle for the standard SUV. This despite again have the confirmation email from Autoeurope with me to confirm that my booking was for a full size SUV. Two poor customer experiences during my last two rentals. I don't know if this is a fault with Autoeurope or the rental companies. But it's clear that despite having the confirmation email from Autoeurope with me at the time of collection the rental companies completely ignore this written contract. "
" On arrival at the Budget counter the centre was empty and my family and I were the only people present. The agent wouldn't accept that my rental agreement did include full cover as per my rental agreement with Autoeurope and stated that I would have to pay for the extra insurance and recovering cover. I presented my rental agreement to her from the printed email from Autoeurope but she insisted that I only had the basic cover and that she made me sign that I was refusing the additional cover before she would release the vehicle to me. I therefore had to sign under protest in order to secure the vehicle. On collecting the vehicle from the parking lot I found that the vehicle was unwashed and dirty on the outside and and the interior was also dirty and obviously not been cleaned. As I say the centre was not busy so there was no reason for the vehicle to be presented for rent in the condition that I found. I did not raise this with the agent as I wasn't prepared for another delay at the counter. I would have real reservations in using Budget for car rental again when my next trip to the USA which will be for four weeks in October 2024. "

They told us we would have to wait a further 4 hrs for a car which was not guaranteed , We had no option to wait as we had a 2 and a half hour drive ahead to travel to Pennsylvania. When I handed over my card I was told the card holder needed to be present, which she wasn't as she was waiting at arrivals for me with our 2 young children. As I didn't have another credit card I used my debit card but was then asked to provide the flight itinerary which proved awkward as I didn't have access to the internet from my phone, a family member eventually came to my aid. I was held up at the exit for some 20+ minutes whilst my family waited for me at the airport, a delay which could have easily been avoided. "

I think they must have just turned the car around without noting the most recent odometer reading. Careless! The Budget rep started well, but could not find a GPS which worked, or had the appropriate fitting. In 2019, having cars' integrated GPS disabled in order to make more money from customers by charging them extra for separate GPS devices ( which don't work or are unavailable) is completely unacceptable. After 14 hours of travelling with children, I should not have to wait for an hour for a car which we had prepaid and preordered with GPS. Auto Europe needs to make this clearer to car hire companies. The handling fee is far too excessive and does not represent the real value of administration involved, and the fact that it was sent to me after the deadline makes me think that it was a deliberate tactics on the part of the company to make some extra revenue. The car we were given had Massachusetts plates and did not belong to the DC rental site, so why do they charge customers a fee if the car is returned in a different state from the one it was picked up from, when they don't return the car to the original site anyway. " The only problem we had was that the paperwork you sent us stated that the Washington DC city office was open to 7pm on the Sunday we were due to collect the car but in fact they closed at 5pm. Luckily we made it by the skin of our teeth to collect the car as we had to get there by public transport and because the phone number on the paperwork was for a central office and not the number for the office where we had to collect the car from. " Although the vehicle had only 30,000miles on the clock, it was in poor condition, the seats were dirty & stained, the suspension was not working properly and there was a problem with the accelerator/gear change system which cased the car to lurch at certain speeds. I called the Budget helpline to see if I could change the car, I was told to take it to the nearest Budget office (Frederick, MD), the manager there claimed that there were no cars available. "

" There was no waiting for the shuttle to the pick up area and the staff with whom I dealt with outside when loading up my car were commendable. However, the gentleman inside the office building of Alamo left a lot to be desired with regard to customer service and his attitude when serving me "

Although there were only 7 people in front of us when we joined the queue it took more than an hour to be served. The car, when we did get it, was quite marked and dented, we took photographs in situ but the condition was not (to our knowledge) noted elsewhere. Service was generally poor and staff disinterested. " I had to change the van twice as it didnt have proper working Aircon and no parking distance control. I had to goto Ronald Reagan airport to change the van with parking distance control eventhough I had specifically asked for one. Then when they took the van to exchange they didnt leave the ezee pass and I had to go to Enterprise to get one. The ezee pass they gave did not work and I was stuck in the barrier in NY tunnel. I have logged in a call to Alamo with these issues that I have had as I do not want any penalties - please check my invoices. "
" With one exception (which destroyed the overall satisfaction) I was highly pleased with the booking with Dollar at Ronald Reagan airport - the collection, the quality of the car, the airport shuttle and the return process were very good. What totally destroyed the experience was the scale of the additional charges on late return (approx 4 hrs). On collection I had enquired about possibly returning the car a few hours late to be told that a charge of $12 an hour/$36 a day would apply. The actual charge was over $100 - this approached 50% of the charge for the whole week. "

" It would have been useful to know that the offices for Dollar are not on the airport site at Heathrow. Nothing in their voucher said about getting a shuttle to the offices. I dropped the car off at a different location to collection. I was charged $300 for this which I thought was a bit too much (I knew this at booking) "
" Instead of a proper GPS unit, they rented me a small tablet at an increased price. But the tablet relied on internet connection and was mostly useless. When I returned the car I expressed my dissatisfaction with the unit, but they refused to understand. They gave me small refund, but I wanted full refund for the rental of the tablet. Terrible service; wouldn't recommend. "

Maybe this is normal in USA rental agreements. "
