I was unable to use my debit card instead and so was unable to collect and use the car I had paid for. In future I would book a Budget hire via a price comparison site, but will never select Hertz again because of the lack of flexibility to accommodate my circumstances. "

" I currently have a dispute with Alamo over a refuelling cost. I refuelled the car at the airport less than 1 km from the return bay. On the check in document it shows the fuel as full and I have a picture showing the car instrument panel after parking at the return location where the mileage shown in the car exactly matches the return document and the fuel gauge shows over the F mark. Yet they are charging me CHF 3.20 for fuel. It is not the cost but the principal; if they do this to everyone they make an obscene amount of money by fraud. "

When I eventually found one helpful lady in Verbier who it appears is only an agent and does not work for your company (surprise surprise) it became apparent that you were then going to extort money from us as a result of our misfortune. As you know (albeit there has been no acknowledgment) my wife has broken her leg, we only needed to add myself as a driver for 24 hours yet you charge for the entire rental - disgusting! It appears that you then cannot even provide a receipt for this gross overcharge. " For the first time, I think Auto Europe mis-sold the product to me. I booked a "Ford Focus Estate" or similar through you. Instead, Hertz offered me the choice of two hybrids. So we got a car that we did not book. At the very least, I suggest you state that I could be forced to drive a hybrid (or non-ICE vehicle) at the time of booking. I do not consider a hybrid to be "similar" to a Ford Focus Estate. Even better would be to give me the choice. As a consequence I do not know whether to trust you in future to provide the vehicle I booked. The problem lie with Hertz but I simply do not know who was to blame for this error. I suspect that if I had booked directly with Hertz, they would have been more receptive when I refused to accept wither of the two hybrid options in the category. "
" I had the worst ever experience with Hertz [Dollar]. Usually I consider Hertz to be the best; not so this time. Hertz offered me the choice between 2 hybrids. I had not ordered a hybrid and did not want one. As a consequence, I had no choice but to accept one. I booked a "Ford Focus Estate" or similar through Auto Europe. I do not consider a hybrid to be "similar" to a Ford Focus Estate. As a consequence I do not know whether to trust Hertz with providing the vehicle I actually ordered in future. It is possible that if I had booked directly with Hertz, they would have been more receptive when I refused to accept either of the two hybrid options in the category. The reason I didn't like the hybrid was that: a) it cost be approx. an extra £150 over a week over the petrol car that I ordered. Most people hire a station wagon at an airport to drive out of town with a family - as I did - so lugging around heavy batteries on motorways (with a battery only option of approx. 30km if actually charged) makes no sense to me. This explains the extra petrol costs I incurred. b) The battery was empty when I took delivery and a notice on the dashboard stated that it had not been recharged for at least 20 days, suggesting that several people had not recharged it. The battery should have been recharged when I took delivery for 2 reasons: the battery takes up the place of the fuel tank (which is required to be full - and indeed was) and to lower my substantially increased rental costs given that I needed to lug the empty batteries around with me. However, it is also true that I would not have been able to return the vehicle with a full battery - and would have been miffed if I had been charged for not doing so. c). I had to refill the car 5 times rather than the usual 2 as the fuel tank is so small. That was wasted time. d). Conceptually, recharging a full EV at a recharging point makes sense if you can drive 200km or more with it. The same cannot be said for a hybrid station wagon hired at an airport that offers only 30km or so of autonomy. The place I drove to had no recharging point but stopping on the motorway to recharge the car for a hybrid (with the time it takes to download apps while three children are crying in the back seats) makes no sense whatsoever. Finding a place to recharge a full EV overnight was not an option on my particular holiday but will probably be possible in the next few years but it is scarcely worthwhile for a hybrid used on motorways. In summary, Hertz's bet on hybrids makes no sense to me, even less than their much publicised decision to step back from their bet on EVs. e) while the sales lady at the Desk was polite and efficient, she told me that we had to accept the hybrid as it was 'the future'. Proof that this is not the case, is the fact that Hertz had not recharged it for us. Please don't preach to me about being with the times when you provide me with a battery with 0% battery life. "

" Unfortunately, I was unable to collect the car at Zurich because when I was filling in the online information I became aware that my driving license had expired. I immediately contacted DVLA and made an application online and received email confirmation that I could continue to drive and my new license would arrive within the next two weeks. I then contacted autoeurope and the third party booking agent by telephone and was informed by both agents that without a physical, valid driving license I would be unable to rent the vehicle and that I would not be entitled to a refund as we were within 48 hours of the pick up time. At the time of these phone calls we were 47 hours from the pick up time. As a consequence I not only lost the payment for the rental but also had to pay for very expensive transfers to and from Lech, Austria. Whilst I appreciate that the lack of a physical, valid license is my fault I am extremely disappointed that no leeway was forthcoming either in the 48 hour cancellation period or the acceptance of my out of date license with the DVLA email confirming my entitlement to drive. I will not be using your company again. "

" There was clearly a discrepancy between the car requested , an estate car or similar, and this being categorised as 'intermediate wagon'. Clearly in the eyes of europcar an intermediate wagon did not include estate cars, as the alternative or 'similar' was not an estate. This is the first occasion I have had an argument with a rental company when they have not been able to provide the car requested, and some clarity with the company involved and what is stated on your voucher would be helpful "
" when we arrived at the Europcar counter , they did not have the Skoda octavia estate that we had ordered. This car was chosen because we were 5 adults with 4 suitcases. The person at the counter was trying to indicate that an equivalent car was a VW golf as this was in the intermediate category. This size car would never have been able to accommodate our party + luggage. The voucher clearly states Octavia estate or similar. To me, similar would indicate another estate or similar size not smaller. Ultimately after much discussion I was given a VW Touran which was perfectly satisfactory, but I don't think there should have been much discussion over this, as if the rental agency does not have the car indicated then they can't be offering a car with less space. "

However, their underhand methods on this occasion will mean that I would not recommend them to anyone else or use them myself again. "
" On collecting the car at Zurich Airport, the gentleman on the Avis desk asked if I wanted any extra insurance. I made it very clear that I had already taken out extra insurance and did not want anything else. However, when looking at the paperwork later on, I noticed that he had added roadside breakdown cover! When I returned the car at the end of the holiday, I had to go back to the Avis desk and wait in a long queue to be seen. I explained to the lady that it was added without my consent but she said that I had signed for it. It was only the fact that I was persistent that, on checking with another member of staff, she agreed to cancel the charge. She did say that I should have checked the agreement when I picked up the car before I left - which I certainly will do in the future. However, I did point out to her that extra costs should not be added when a customer clearly expresses that they do not wish anything else. It is an underhand method of bumping up the cost. "

The lady who served us told that we should return the car by earlier on the Sunday as its busy period. First of all they make us wait to collect the car and also they say we have return it early. " Prior to receiving the vehicle, the vehicle agreement note had already clearly stated that there was damage to the front bumper with approx more than 2 CM with no paint. I received communication 3 days later stating i had made this damage although it was already stated the damage was there before i took the car. Additionally, I had waited nearly 40 mins at the check in desk before I was handed the keys and despite the vehicle note stated there was a full tank, there was not and was a 1/2 a quarter less of fuel. I am very disappointed by the customer service i have received and historically when leasing a car from EuropCar, I would always be escorted to the vehicle and collaboratively review all damage prior to taking the car and when returning the car. Had this been in place (which i believe is the correct and customarily approach) i would not be receiving such stressful communication. So in total, I paid for a car for more time then I actually received and refueled the car more than i received, now I am having to take additional time in corresponding to communication for damage that existed before my renting the vehicle. I will be assured to never use EuropCar again and will advise my company (5th largest consulting company in the world) and my friend and family of the same. "

" The problems with Budget are not really Auto Europes fault - however if I book a vehicle for a given price I expect to be able to pick it up for that price and not contend with add ons, some of which were reluctantly agreed, some were just added, and some were in my view fraudulent. I will be looking at other sites before using Auto Europe in future "
" The experience with Budget/ Avis went badly wrong from the moment my party tried to pick up our vehicle. We were forced to upgrade after 20 minutes "discussion" to a 4WD vehicle which Budget insisted we needed and tried to charge 70CHF per day initially, then reduced to 35 and finally we had to accept 19 CHF per day as it seemed we were not getting the vehicle. On return having filled the vehicle to overflowing fuel 20kms out from the airport we were told it was not full even though the indicator was exactly as we picked up - add another 31CHF to the bill. Then with a minute inspection a small scratch was found no bigger than a finger nail - it looked more like tree sap and not done by us in any incident, but Budget then charged 814CHF to fix it. It seemed they were determined to get their original upgrade cost out of us plus a lot more than we were actually charged by Auto europe originally. I am now pursuing my excess insurance for the first time ever! I will never use Avis/Budget again -they are dishonest. "

" This was by far the most efficient and quick car hire I have experienced when hiring a car in Europe - the desk at the airport was really easy to fine and the whole transaction took minutes. I was offered a choice between manual and automatic, and was not badgered into taking out ridiculously priced insurance extras as is usually the case. Got the keys and found the car within minutes as it is close to the desk. We were given detailed images of how to return the car and where, and on return, it was again quick and efficient, with a check carried out and key handed over. " Got cancelled by Ryanair and managed to get to Zurich the day after and car was gone despite been paid already , no replacement available!Had to take a lastminute car from Europcar which was super pricey. Spent felt hours to contact you via telephone but got stuck in waiting. Hardly a good experience. I am trying to get all the costs back from Ryanair but it looks like this will take months. "

" It was difficult to inspect the car (black) for damage because of poor lighting in the parking garage at ZRH airport. On our return, there was a delay because the luggage cover in the boot (trunk) was "missing". In fact, it was never there when we picked up the car and we didn't think it was provided because the back windows were tinted. This caused a delay when we returned the car. The operative was polite but somewhat abrupt although we were given "the benefit of the doubt" in the end. We felt we had done something wrong although we hadn't. "

" Dollar at Zurich international airport: I have arrived to the counter roughly half an hour sooner before my pick up time, and they did not have any car from the category I booked ready. I was expexting them to ask me to wait until my pick up time, but I was very pleased when I have been offered a free upgrade and I drove away in a couple of minutes. Thumbs up for the Slovenian guy at the counter, and also for his manager (presumably) who, when asked what he should do, just said "Give him the toyota before somebody else grabs it" "

" Unfortunately we had to wait over an hour until we could collect our hire car. There was a long queue of customers waiting and in between priority customers got called to the front of the queue. This wasn't the best start of our short break. This wasn't obviously Auto Europe's fault but it still was disappointing. "

" Utterly disgraceful experience. When I missed my flight, I tried to contact Auto Europe many times on the number provided in the booking confirmation. But repeated attempts to contact failed. I've even tried the auto-call back option many times but didn't receive any call back. On a day when I missed my flight and trying to find another flight, it was really important to get hold of someone to find an alternative solution so I can book another flight and ensure that my travel plans will remain secure. But due to this disgraceful experience, it was not possible for me to confirm any other flights because I wasn't able to reschedule my rental. I will not be using Auto Europe again and also will tell friends and family about this experience. "

" Another issue was that I wanted to extend your insurance for one more day, as i decided to rent the car for one additional day when i collected the car, and dealt directly with Hertz. But your office declined to offer that facility because i had extended directly. I would have extended through AE but you do not allow changes at short notice. So you should find ways to be more flexible regarding rental extensions and offer of your insurance. "
" I actually dealt with Hertz. All good except for one thing - explanation of Roadside Assistance policy for travel outside of Switzerland, CHF 35 one-time or face a CHF 500 call-out fee, regardless of the circumstances. Based on that I declined the offer. When I had a breakdown due to flat battery and needed assistance while in Austria rather than face a CHF 500 charge I called a local service who charged me EUR 139. On reporting to the Hertz Zurich office I was informed that in this circumstance I would most likely not have been charged if i had called the Hertz CH assistance hotline. Had this been explained more clearly I may have saved myself EUR 39, which I will now claim from my Auto Europe insurance. So please advise Hertz to be more clear about the circumstances in which they would charge the call out fee of CHF 500. "

" There were 2 people sitting at the counter, both just working on their computers and blatantly ignored me for about 5-10 minutes until I eventually asked whether they could serve us. The car was not an economy car - it was a small Cora which we had to SQUASH 1 standard-sized suitcase, 1 smaller suitcase and 4 people in to. The car had no power and although stated that it had winter tyres on it, was rather treacherous on the roads in the snow and ice - we did not feel safe at all and felt the car was sub-standard. We had previously used Hertz (through AutoEurope) in Geneva (Swiss side) the month before and the 2 cars (both economy) were chalk and cheese - you couldn't compare the 2. The staff were extremely unfriendly and unhelpful. "
