" My recent car rental from yourselves. I landed at Zadar airport and went to pick up my car. I was directed to the Active desk and proceeded to go through the paperwork. I was then told I needed to upgrade my insurance to Super CDW or else I could be charged 800 Euros is there was any damage to the car and this would include any scratches. I told the rental man that I already had the highest insurance, and he looked at the voucher and said that our insurance was basic and needed updating. Now I took out the insurance for peace of mind. After 10 minutes of being told I would need their insurance I took it out at an extra 10 euros per day for 7 days, thus costing me 70 euros. I paid 70 euros to buy an insurance I already had. I would like to claim the 70 euros back from yourselves as I feel like I was conned into taking an insurance policy that I had already paid for. "

We were even upgraded to a better car as it was just dropped off. 70€ fee for taking the car to a different cou try which I expected. No cleaning fee nonsense. The girl at the office (Samara) with her feet up on the desk texting ignored me. Then very rudely said WHAT!! Then walked out & at the terminal & strait away pointed to a small scratch on the bumper which was already there. Wound us up about it for 10 mins being very rude to myself & my wife . Then advised me I don't have to pay as taken out the extra insurance!! Then I had to give her a lift to the agreed drop off point !!! Samara had no customer skills & should not be doing this job & I will be putting in a formal complaint "

" The vehicle had too much obvious damage for it to be hired without repair. Such vehicles need to have a sat nav system and where possible a reverse parking camera. The staff members kept telling me things after each point, they basically convinced me to take out their €30 insurance when I already had it from the UK. The staff members barely wanted to give me my holding deposit receipt or refund on check out. "

" Auto Europe need to advise that AMEX not accepted by ACTIVE. Luckily I had a back up mastercard but I usually use AMEX on business trips. This was a potentially difficult situation. "

Unfortunately rental companies in Croatia appear to see full excess cover insurance and petty damage claims as revenue opportunities for them. ACTIVE is not the worst company I have experienced, but be prepared for detailed inspections on drop-off. "

The petrol tank was also not full, which meant I returned more fuel than I received. They didn't leave the return box out like they stated they would, so I just had to drop the keys on their desk when returning the car and hope someone wouldn't take them. "

" I have booked with ACTIVE many, many times before and have always been very satisfied. Indeed I make a point of choosing ACTIVE above all other companies in Zagreb. I like that I can pick-up the car in downtown Zagreb or airport. The staff are helpful and polite. This trip was ok but not perfect. On pick-up, I was not told that the car would lock me out if the keys were left inside. This happened to me and my family on Xmas day. The car locked itself with us outside. This was a nightmare because all our things were inside and we were stranded on the street.. ACTIVE did NOT have spare key which was very disappointing. We were therefore forced to pay an independent company to pick the lock of the car to get us in. I was not able to reclaim the cost of this on my excess insurance policy because I did not get a report from ACTIVE. Also, on drop off, I had to wait 45 mins for an agent to arrive to meet me. Disappointed but I will still use ACTIVE in the future because of previous good experiences. "

" Pretty good overall. Pula airport is small which meant the car was parked very close to the terminal. It was hard to find the rep in the terminal initially as there is no desk and he was sat in the cafe. Fortunately I was helped by a kind lady from one of the rival car rental companies. Car was a bit battered by previous users but perffectly serviceable. It just leaves you worried that you'll be blamed for damge done by someone else. "

" Active no longer has a counter at the airport, so it was a meet-and-greet. I expected that a representative would be waiting for us when we arrived but that was not the case. I called the Active phone number and no one answered. After an hour of waiting, I asked a counter agent with a different company if she knew how to contact Active and she called Active from her phone and a representative appeared 10 minutes later. It was infuriating. It was a terrible start to our holiday and returning the car also required coordination of a specific drop-off time coordinated by email or phone. "

" There were 3 problems, the last of which was in my opinion a complete rip-off. Active is just a bunch of local fraudsters looking to make money from tourists. Here were the issues with the car hire: 1 When we came to pick up the car there was nobody to help us. There was a number on a piece of paper at the desk, which we phoned, but they only turned up 45 minutes later. 2 The car they gave us was old - 45,000 miles on the clock and lots of damage (but more on that later). Furthermore, the fuel tank was half full! How are we supposed to bring it back exactly half full? I think it is their way of saving a bit of money because they know we will probably over-estimate when we refill the tank, thus giving them a bit of petrol for free. 3 Here's the sting. When we returned it they pointed out salt stains on a couple of the seats, and charged us 100 Euros for cleaning it. There are several things wrong with this, but the main one was that they were charging us for internal damage when they did not do an internal checks when handing over! I felt slightly dumb about this as we didn't do any internal check either, but we have never been charged for the state of the interior, and i must have rented 100 cars in my time. Total rip-off. "

At Pick up I noticed a VW Golf in the next bay and asked why I couldn't have this car. I was informed they only had ONE VW Golf for rental which is automatic and kept it back in case someone specified auto..! I pointed out I was the customer that ordered and paid for that one VW Golf. I just wish you would be upfront and truthful about the cars available and not give misleading info.. Otherwise everything else ok "

Extra charges because they wouldn't accept credit card from anyone but the driver who doesn't have one. Debit card hold still not taken off after a week after returning the car and there was nobody there to inspect the car when we handed it back to clear the hold, I have heard nothing since I returned the car regarding getting this money back "

All other companies were open but Active. there was no body to contact, no one answered the split airport phone, after waiting 30 min, we called the Split office and they told us to leave the keys in the office box. People are in a rush to get to their airplane, how can you spend 30 min trying to find out a solution? Not even a sign In the office window to know what to do. we took pictures to prove that the car was returned in good conditions, we didn't have any issues and that Active office was close. " I was given a free upgrade at the counter from a Skoda Fabia to a VW Touran which was great considering that we are travelling with a baby therefore the bigger car sounded nice. Although when arriving to the car, it was damage all the way around even with a broken/damaged rear light. I took the car anyway as all damage was identified on the documentation, although when delivering the car and check the great condition and newer cars Active as available, I don't understand the need of giving such a damaged car to their clients. " Overall, very pleased with the service from this company, in particular the staff member who checked the car over both before and after our use. While the counter staff were not exactly 'smiley and inviting', they were swift and communicated all that was needed with no attempt to upsell or push additional services (which had we wanted we would already have chosen in the on-line booking process). We were accompanied to our vehicle and the check of the car's condition done in our presence. While the car had obviously had many markings by previous occupants both on paintwork and upholstery, these were all noted down. The young gentleman was very diligent and polite. On our return we parked up and, by the time we had lifted our baggage from the boot, the same member of staff arrived (a walk of 100 metres or so), as he said he had seen us arrive. It was so helpful not to have to go to the desk and back again at that point in our journey. He again was diligent but not in a manner that suggested or made us feel like he expected to find additional damage, allowing us to continue our homeward journey swiftly and unstressed. (After a very different experience using a different company some months ago, this was a breath of fresh air) "

Here is the list of things about the car state when we got it: - filthy inside and outside - tank filled up to 5/8 - a few bumps - front tires used up to the indicator, could have explored at any time on the highway considering the heat and the drive. About the counter staff: - InActive and unwilling to find solutions. - when I got to the reception with my phone (couldn't find a way to print my voucher) the person didn't wanted to help me find a solution to have it sent to him. I had to insist for 10 minutes for him to finally let me send the voucher to the companies whatsapp so that he could process it. I event realized the number was ment for that , he simply didn't want to help me out at first. - when handing the car back the guy charged me 30 euros for 1/8 of gas missing... saying that this was the charge for going them self's to fill it.... as it wasn't full in the first place when I picked it up I doubt they actually filled it... Finally, everything could have gone great, the car was not so hold and if had been clean and the staff helpful they this could have gone very differently. Unfortunately they were really bad at their job and I would even to the point of putting lives in danger considering the state of the tires. I have pictures and videos I would be glad to share with you ! "

" The initial staff were extremely helpful as we had made the booking quite last minute and never received a confirmation email with a car hire voucher. The car was clean but had some damage on it. The fuel tank was recorded as being 5/8 full when we collected it. When we used the car we put 200 kuna of fuel in it which filled it from empty up to 5/8 again. However, the journey to the airport meant that the tank at drop off was 3/8 full. We were happy to pay for the difference in fuel. Active demanded 200kuna to cover the 2/8 less fuel!! They insisted us that if we didn't pay this in cash it would cost much more if they put the charge'through the official system'. It spoiled the whole experience to be honest. So we won't be recommending them or using them again. "

I had to sign for a car I hadn't seen and take their word that there was no further damage than the scratches mentioned on collection and noted on the vehicle diagram. When inspecting the car in daylight there were two dents at the rear top side of vehicle. I've taken photos of these and told the person inspecting the car at drop off. She rang through and said there was no problem & they are aware of these dents. I asked when the pending deposit payment for damages put on my credit card would be lifted. She said it would be lifted immediately on her return to the office. I've checked my credit card and this payment is still pending. Make sure you take lots of photos on collection and at drop off. "

When our turn Sven dealt with our booking, he was very helpful and informative and offered us a range of cars available, helping us to decide which would be best for our journey. He was extremely patient, informative and helpful and made the wait worth it. The car was in great condition and once collected the process of checking the vehicle was quick. We had no problems with the car and a lovely 10 days of driving, the car definitly added to our amazing holiday. " For Auto Europe to be using such a "cowboy" outlet does surprise me and that is the reason for the low recommendation. They seem to be money grabbers, and would hate to think of what i would have been charged if i had a chip on my windscreen. "
" The car i received was filthy, though it had been washed. The floor mats in the car were wet seating was wet and the car smelt like damp the first 3 days of the rental. When going to pick up the car, there was no signage to say where the agents were or where to collect my car. i had to go to other rental agents to find out where "Active" could be found. The Agent i was dealing with was friendly and apologetic about the state of the car, and i asked him to add that the car was dirty onto my paperwork. (so i didnt get charged a cleaning fee) the Fuel was at 3/8.. so before long i had to fill the car up. Active, in my opinion are Cowboys. I was expecting then to find the smallest of issues with the car and charge me for it. but thankfully there were no issues with the car and no charge were accrued. It also came to my attention that the guys working the car lot had not been paid by the company for a couple of months and were expected to fill the cars up with fuel and claim back from the company. that is why my car had no fuel as they couldnt afford it. very unprofessional. "

" I use Auto Europe as a first choice for all of my holiday trips overseas. Booking process is straightforward and all contact information was provided by email. The hire rate on this occasion was very competitive, perhaps because the car was 3 years old. Nevertheless, the car was clean and the service record (found in the glove box) showed it had been maintained correctly. I am very satisfied with the value obtained from this hire. "
" The office I selected for collection was not easy to find as it is quite remote from the main centre of Dubrovnik. However, the staff were very efficient in processing my contract and handover of keys and thorough in recording condition of vehicle. The office was busy when I returned the car, so had to wait for a member of staff to be free. No issues with them accepting return. "

" ACTIVE car rental was overall a satisfying experience. The only thing that did not impress was the long procedure to pick up the car. People before us had to wait very long already and delayed us additionally. I believe that if one rents a car at 3 pm and arrives in advance, it should be able to leave before 4.15 pm. "

" The pick up of the car was excellent. Very helpful and friendly young lady. However the drop off in Pula was terrible. Firstly really hard to find a place for dropping off/parking the ca. When we went to to the desk there was only one member of staff serving and there was a queue. A man came and joined the staff member but when I asked him if he cold come and check our car so we cold go for our flight he said he couldnt. I explained there were another two customers waiting to drop off but he said we would just have to join the queue! Fortunately another woman came and she took the keys from my partner. Whilst this enabled us to go for our flight it meant we were not there when the car was checked and although we know there were no problems with the car we have seen some of the reviews which said Active were saying there were marks on the car and the customers were denying this but losing their deposit anyway. It is only because of the drop off i have lowered my score, everything else was very good. I would point out that whilst the girl in Split was friendly an chatty the attitude of the two men in Pula was terrible They could do with a lesson in customer service!!. "
