When paying a lot of money for a vehicle it should be in a condition where a device is due or tyres not inflated and checked over before it is sent out again. This was an ongoing issue and concern especially when driving over 100km to get to our destinations . "

" I would use Auto Europe again, but would not use Air Rent. Again, prices and the car were very good, but it's just not worth the frustration of the customer experience at the airport. I'd pay a little more money and go with someone else if I were ever to return to Croatia. "
" The car was great and a good price. Very happy with the car. The counter experience, however, was awful. One man staffing a single booth, and despite the customer providing the information to Auto Europe (and therefore to him, I'd assume) in advance, he only taps all of it into his system once you get there. Which means that you end up in a queue that moves very slowly as it takes him around 20 mins to process each customer (and this includes taking the customer out to the car park to show them the car and inspect it for damage, while everyone else waits in the terminal at an empty booth for him to return). We foolishly went to the loo before we went to get our car. Big mistake! We ended up waiting an hour after our arrival until we were able to leave in our car, kids standing around in the heat asking why it was taking so long, and I wasn't really sure what to say to them as I could see that the other car rental lines were all reducing down much faster as, I assume, those companies had loaded the information into their systems before the customers arrived. When I complained to the man running it that we'd been stood there for 40 mins already, he told me I was free to rent a car with another company if I wished (which he obviously well knew was unfeasible, as you'd end up paying a fortune to rent on the spot) and told me that he had all day before he sauntered off into the car park with the client he was working with! It was not just our family that found him slow and rude, with no concept of customer experience - we had plenty of time to chat to other families in the queue, and they were all astonished at the time it was taking and how little he seemed to care about us all stood there, waiting, and staring at him bleakly. We saw one of them on our return and they commented to me how rude he'd been to me when we were all picking up our cars two weeks previously. They were quite astounded by how he'd reacted to my complaint - he didn't even attempt to apologise for the wait. Indeed, he had a young woman with him in the box when we were picking up, although not clear what she was doing other than smirking at us while he muttered to her in Croatian. I can only guess at his commentary to her, but again, really poor customer service. Return experience very similar - where normally you drop the key off and that's it, we had to join another queue of people waiting to pick up cars and stand for 20 mins, before thankfully he said to come out to the car park while he took the new customer out, and checked over our car before accepting the key back. But really, this kind of processing dates from the 80s before the internet existed, and as noted earlier, the other rental companies in the terminal were processing their customers much much faster than he was. "

The Air Europe excess refund insurance is essential and thankfully they paid out very quickly without any complications. "

They omit to record onto their system some of the damages they observe with you when they marked them up on a sheet and don't leave you with a copy of that record. She then tried to peel away a flap that would have been impossible for us to damage & was clearly wear & tear. She said she wouldn't charge us for this but should & then told us she would now close the contract & the deposit would be placed back & an email sent. I never received the email, until I phoned the company last Friday because I noticed they took another amount of almost £300, when we had never received a receipt or knew about this amount being taken from the card. After I spoke to the lady on the phone she said this was a mistake & that it would all be refunded by this Monday gone. She said she had sent an email with the closing deposit, then came another email with that..this one was for "damages". We never knew that we would be charged an amount for damages without us being present. She then sent a text to confirm what my question was & sent me two receipt pictures that she had taken with her phone, these receipts now showed time stamps on them so I knew the damages amount was taken whilst I was not there. I then explained via text that this amount is clearly taken when we were on the airport waiting to go through security & they have deducted an amount without us being present & for which we didn't receive a receipt for. After this she never responded again. I checked my bank account & can see that from today the deposit is not pending but the other amount has still been taken out. This is just ridiculous. I have a video I took on the day before we drove it away so I could record all faults with the car & it clearly shows that flap was loose & is nothing to do with us using it. I also checked Google reviews & this same thing happens to every single renter of this company, I don't know how they are still doing business & continuing to scam people by using their bank information to take more money out. What can be done for me to have my money back? They never respond & it's frustrating, this is fraud! "

The fuel policy was to return with same amount as on collection, not 'full to full' as advertised. " Locating the Air Rent contact took a little while as we didn't know who/what to look for. Main issue was the blood stain in the car though. "

In the current Covid environment this did not give us much assurance that the car had been cleaned. The car was also very scratched - we needed to take 20-25 pictures of small scratches and dents to get comfortable that we would not be held responsible. I've suggested to him that my husband's credit card could be used as a deposit of the €1,875 in order to take the car and go to my destination. However, he told me he couldn't accept his credit card unless I'll add him as a 2nd driver, paying €40 for this inclusion (even he doesn't have a driving license what I've informed to the receptionist in advance) and buying full insurance (more €175). The customer service was doing OK in the beginning however when this problem came up he became moody, rude and ignoring me when I was talking to him. If you are nice and polite only when things are perfect you are doing nothing. Customer service should be efficient to give alternatives and present solutions when the difficulties come up. Then, I've called to auto-europe in order to get some help and I was informed that if I'd buy 'their' full insurance the deposit should be €200 and I could use my credit card. I've come back to the reception and I've offered this solution what he agreed. After that, we went to the car park to get the car. There were many scratches and damage outside the car and it was only this one left to us without any other option. At the end of the day, I've paid for their full insurance what was nearly the same amount I've paid for the rental (what it was unexpected) to get a damaged car and had time spent in unnecessary discussion. It was not the best way to start a holiday. I was very disappointed. Fortunately, the return was fast and easy as we didn't have any other problem (different people at the reception). However, I'm not sure how would be managed if it happened. I wasn't happy at all. "

We were not informed that we would be charged extra for aged 71 driver although his passport details was checked. When we did drop off, I was charged 560 Croatian Kuna (approx £65) because of additional driver's age. This should have been made clear at the start so that we could make a decision whether to go ahead. I felt this was unfair and poor service. we and other customers also had to wait 20 minutes for Air Rent staff to attend the office at 9.20am. "

Extremely rude staff told us to wait, without any concrete information. 2 - Tank wasn't full and we spent hours guessing and stopping at stations to return the car with 5/8. 3 - Staff informed that cross-border fee could be paid in cash, just to charge it against the credit card irregularly and irrespective of information. Drop-off staff was even more rude and refused to fix the issue or acknowledge it. 4 - Dirty car. Internally and externally. Overall, just terrible company and staff to deal with. Autoeurope shouldn't be reselling that crap. "

" Air rent car was good but i had to pay an extra 118€ on top of yhe £76 i had paid autoeurope. This was to improve yhe insurance so that the excess was brought down from approx 1200€ to 500€. This also meant that should there be a small incident i would not need a police report for which there is apparently a charge of 300 € by the police. I feel that Autoeurope should have made the large xs clear before i booked the car. I was only made aware of it a couple of days before my holiday. Had i known this before i would have chosen another option "

They ended up having to swap it later in the day with the correct size of car. This car was a beaten up Skoda Fabia, no match for the Polo which was advertised "

" Arrived at the desk and waited as there was a customer ahead of me. When I did get attended to I was informed my car was not available as the previous customer using the vehicle had not returned it yet, they tried to offer me a smaller vehicle, to which I said would not be suitable. I then said if they would like to upgrade it the girl spoke to her boss and I never got an answer back on it. I then suggested that if they paid for a taxi to my hotel they could deliver the car when it had been returned (this was only about 6 miles away) again there was no response. Aledgedly the car had then been returned and they were going to clean it before we could take it and they bought us a coffee while we waited for this to be done and they would ring me when it was ready. Over an hour later I walked back to the desk and they said oh yes your car is now ready (no call). We just needed to do the paperwork they then tried to charge me €32.50 because it was Croatia day and a public holiday and was trying to say I was lucky they were there in the first place. All in all the service was poor, it made a poor start to our holiday "

" On arrival at Pula Airport we were told we were too early and the car we had booked was not yet available and we were told to wait. The wait in the end was 1hr 45mins. When the time came for us to return to the desk, we waited 20 mins while your colleague was summoned from a shopping trip by her boss. We were then told our car was still not available so they would give us another, slightly bigger, car. We were asked to put down a deposit of 10,000 kuna which equates to over £1000 which was over the credit limit of my card and therefore declined. Thankfully my partner had his card. As it was raining your colleague was unwilling to show us the car before we signed the vehicle condition form. We then couldn't leave the airport car park due to an apparent problem with the exit barrier camera not recognising Air Rent cars. Despite tying to contact the Air Rent desk we ended up being helped by an airport employee to finally get on our way more than 2 hours after landing. "

" When we booked the car we also booked extra damage waver insurance that appeared to be from the car provider. This caused the headache above with Air Rent who expected a police report for any damage as we weren't insured directly with them. It would be helpful if this was made absolutely clear when taking out this Insurance. "

In Rijeka we arrived to find the kiosk closed, phoned the number and was told very rudely to go and get a coffee and wait, he would be there in about 30mins! I said I need to hurry to get a ferry and was told they run all day and that is basically tough. By the time we were in the car we wasted well over an hour! Furthermore, we booked a multi stop car hire, which Autoeurope said was included in the price. The hire company charged a further 75 Kuna for this. I told the guy we had this included and he said we need to take it up with Autoeurope! When we arrived in Pula to drop the car the staff were far better, still not refunding us but saying there had been many complaints about the Rijeka staff member. The Pula staff also said we were not meant to be charged extra but we needdd to get Autoeurope to refund us. "
