The only slight issue was that the directions from the young man in the arrivals hall about where to go to find the car were not terribly clear and we had to hunt around a bit with our big bags in tow. On the other hand, the card given to us with a QR code showing how to access the return site was a great - I could drop my wife off at departures and then take the car back with no trouble. When we got the car initially, the agent took the trouble to show us how to connect our phone to the screen in the car so we could follow Google maps and this was a huge advantage - much appreciated. " Although I booked compact category, Alamo officer offered me a 1000cc car which is the lowest category, which is only appropriate for city use. After a lot of discussions they provided a better and new car which was fine. It is not acceptable to get any car that maybe available rather than the one that you booked for. You should raise this issue with Alamo. Also the Autoeurope classification is not transparent as within each category there can be wide variations, you should include the car's cc "

It went smoothly except that there was some kind of additional charge for the second driver of 90 cents per day plus tax = 8.78 euro. The desk person tried to palm us off with a bigger car which we declined but that is par for the course because they are always short of smaller cars. "

" I hired a car at Bergamo airport from 9/8/23-17/8/23 from Alamo (apparently Locauto in Italy). Approximately 1 hour after I picked up the car I suffered a blow out of a front tyre. I had paid for breakdown assistance which I managed to contact and a low loader was sent to take away the car due to there being no spare and the tyre being beyond the repair kit. We were then left with our luggage at the side of the road and no further advice as to how to proceed. I eventually got a replacement car but the company is now asking me for 150 euros for the tyre. I have been in correspondence with them as I felt the tyre burst was their fault not mine. This is not being resolved as yet and they are threatening me with debt recovery procedures if I don't pay. I have been re;luctant to concede.Are you able to offer me advice - do you think I shouild I pay and c;laim the amount back through my excess insurance policy? Regards David MacKinnon "

We were now late and missed a ski lesson that was booked for that afternoon and family afternoon ski passes. Dropped off car late due to traffic at Mont-Blanc tunnel and was told I would have to pay a fine of 93 euros which I refused. My drop of time should have been later as my collection time was later due to the issues with the car, and a 93 euro charge was excessive as I was only I was really 1.5 hour late. I was willing to pay for the extra hour, but 93 euros represents 2 days car rental! "

I passed him the paper form given to me back when picking up the car: and said 'can you write here that it's checked in OK'.. Instead of that, he wrote a smiley picture on the paper! That was not what I had asked for. It would have been so easy for him, to write ;'no damage' on the paper! That made me slightly nervous: and concerned that maybe when I got the email it would NOT confirm no damage. So I thought: I need to know which staff member it was who verbally told me about the no-damage and promised the email. In case later the promised email says 'damage'. So I raised my mobile phone to take a picture of the man: and he was not happy. I told that I had simply asked for confirmation of no -damage on paper: and was concerned he had not done the very simple thing to write that. He said again that an email would confirm it: as above I said: but I don't have that email yet - and would like confirmation. He was not willing to write anything. He finished off by saying ' don't film me or I will get the police' -which was a very silly. All sides had been quietly spoken and calm throughout. "

" Auto Europe are quick and efficient and in two recent cases of using them they provided good cars (from quite different companies and in different locations) with all payments pre-paid in £ and a voucher issued to be given to the rental car agent at the arrival airport. Extra fees for a second driver were paid locally and a hold of Euros 500 placed on my credit card in case of damages or fuel refilling. The amount was duly refunded in a day afterwards when I arrive home. I would say that with Auto Europe it is all very clear and good value if you have no presumptions about a certain make or model of car. If you just want a set of wheels for a hoiday trip and a certain car group, then this service is quick and easy and competitive and, so far, reliable. It all saves the customer hunting the internet for separate car rental companies and trying to compare prices and specifics. "
" Whilst the rental was formally with Alamo I am aware that they are part of the Enterprise and National rental car organisations. So it was not possible to make a distinction with regards to 'Alamo by Ent'. In fact, at the desk in Bari Airport, Italy - the pick-up location - it was a local agency who represented these 3 companies (only these 3, no others) and it was a small desk that was hard to find - with the name 'Locauto'. It would have been useful to know that I would be dealing with Locauto and that the paperwork, rental car parking zone and everything was in that name. Anyway, it was all very fine and there were no problems. In fact at the return after the holiday I parked the car in the designated area and the agent quickly came to check it and confirm it was all OK and that there were no extras or damages, etc. and he then said he would drive me and my wife plus the luggage to the Departures Terminal and help us unload. This was extremely convenient and very friendly as the distance could have been a long walk, through a bus station, up a ramp and past the Arrivals hall. This was a very good service from Locauto. "

I asked him to show me where it said you should not smoke in the car. He couldn't, but referred vaguely to an e mail that his company had sent. He could not tell me how much this "special" clean would cost , so I refused to sign the final check in documentation. A shame because all my other dealings with this company have been excellent. " Best car rental experience I ever had in Rome and I am a frequent traveler. The car was superb with phone holder on dashboard and charger really nice touch The car interior and exterior both immaculate. My phone battery never ran to empty on me with this car made my visit less stressful as I needed my phone to speak to suppliers/workmen working on my Italian renovation. The staff were very charming and helpful ,they even looked after my luggage as we inspected the car on my return. "

I wanted to complain because the operator at Pisa airport said that if I did not take out breakdown cover the only thing that was covered was a faulty battery , for everything else I would have to pay for the recovery, I challenged this asking did it not include oil pressure failure, mechanical failure etc etc but she was adamant that it only included the battery. I reluctantly took the cover at €14 , I was very unhappy about this charge but felt I had no option but to take the cover. "

In addition we expect to be compensated for the stress and time taken out of our holiday to fix the dipped light when clearly it was never fixed at Florence when we were told it was and given it is a requirement to drive by law. " Last time I hired a car at Pisa airport there were long queues so I was expecting that but on arrival at the counter there was only one person in front of me in the the queues, but the process took just as long, once I had the keys and paperwork sorted I expected to go straight to the car as I did last time but no I stood on a queue for about 40 mins waiting to be issued my car I was not impressed. " Ordinarily we have a very good experience with Alamo. Unfortunately this time there was a fault with the car and we broke down. We it took 7 hours to sort out the problem, arrange for the car to be collected - organise a taxi (which we had to pay for - €100) to collect another car from an airport (not the airport we collected or were scheduled to return the car to) which was nearly an hour away - then there was a lot of confusion around charges for the second car. Overall the staff were helpful and we got there in the end but the procedure for replacing the car was confusing and we felt very worried about the outcome as we knew the car was faulty but it felt like we weren't believed. We were only on holiday for 3 days and so this incident took out a lot of this time and we found ourselves miles away from where we had planned to be on that day. The replacement car was however very good. "

They were left out in the sun (40 degree heat, which I think invalidates their warranty - you get warned not to do that) AND one of them was full of food in the bottom and smelt a little of vomit. I tried to clean it and discovered that a child had definitely been sick in it relatively recently. Put these two things together - the cost of the seats and the condition that they were in - and it didn't make for a great start to our trip. "

" I hired a car, as I usually do, through Auto Europe to pick up at Pisa airport at the Locauto stand on Monday 2nd July and returning it on Saturday 7th July. Simone (I think that is her name, I cannot read her signature) looked after my booking (voucher number UK4411085) which went smoothly and I headed off with my wife and daughter. We were attending a family wedding in Tuscany. When I arrived at our hotel I realised that I did not have my passport and last remember having it at the Locauto office at Pisa airport where they took it to make a photocopy. I rang the office who said that it was not in the photocopying machine but would look for it. I rang the office again three or four times on the Tuesday but my passport still had not been located. I rang again on the Wednesday and still no passport had been found. With time running out before our return I contacted the British Consulate in Rome to organise an emergency passport. With no word from the Locauto office I made the trip to Rome on the Friday and picked up the emergency passport in order to return to the UK the following day. I returned the rental car at the airport on the Saturday and remarked to Simone that the whereabouts of my missing passport was still a mystery. To which she rummaged around in a draw and produced the said document! I was too angry to complain in depth and had to walk away as I did not want to be abusive and had a flight to catch. Whilst I take some responsibility for forgetting my passport when I picked up the hire car, the hire car company had a responsibility to return it to me at the time of pick up. I can only put it down to incompetence and/or laziness of the Loucato staff for not informing me of the finding even after I had rung them at least six times over a three day period before being forced to apply for an emergency passport. Once an emergency passport is issued the original is cancelled, never to be used again. To compound the situation I had to travel to Munich early on the Monday morning. Luckily I have dual nationality and traveled on my Australian passport but still had grief and a long wait at immigration on my return. As a result, and apart from the stress placed on me and my family, I wasted a whole day (10 hours) getting an emergency passport, missed the wedding farewell luncheon on the Friday and incurred the following expenses; Parking in Florence 21.00 Euros Return train to Rome 75.00 Euros Emergency passport 118.00 Euros Passport photos 5.00 Euros Taxi in Rome 18.00 Euros Replace UK passport 100.00 Euros Total 337.00 Euros I would like to following following outcomes; The staff at the Locauto airport office in Pisa to be reprimanded and reminded of their customer care and responsibilities. 2. Reimbursement of my expenses (a value on my time wasted and stress caused is a little more difficult to evaluate). I look forward to hearing from you in the near future. "

" I rent a lot of vehicles around the world and it has become the norm to be encounter manipulative, condescending and aggressive counter staff. They can make it very difficult to decline certain 'enhancements' to the rental that you have booked in advance. My experience with Alamo in Catania airport was exactly this. We were even lied to about fuel prices in Sicily in an attempt to up-sell us a more expensive retail vehicle. The member of staff claimed that we would save a considerable amount of money by upgrading to a diesel vehicle due to the difference in cost of diesel and unleaded petrol. A total lie all round. Although this sort of behaviour is standard, it should by no means be acceptable. Also, being threatened and intimidated by a professional salesperson is a horrible way to start a holiday. In contrast, the staff at the car collecting/drop-off parking lot were very helpful, friendly and efficient. They made the damage check process transparent and encouraged us to take our time and question anything we spotted. We were impressed with these people. "

I have a valid Brazilian driving license and Portuguese citizenship. I've used the Autoeurope services many times before, including Alamo/Enterprise in Italy (check the voucher UK4238832, from October/2017), and never had issues of any kind. I'm also a member of Enterprise Plus (B3VDZB7). However, none of this was taken in consideration. Unfortunately, the member of the staff who assisted me didn't make any effort to give me an alternate solution and acted extremely rude when I asked for his manager. He said his name was Marco, but he refused to give me his last name (security reasons, according to him). In order to avoid jeopardizing my entire holiday (which included several hotels previously booked in several different cities), I had to take a last-minute car rental at Maggiore (Malpenza Airport), where I've been promptly and kindly assisted. Obviously, all my documents were accepted (as they normally are) and I left the airport a few minutes later driving the car. "

" Booked a VW Touran due to luggage requirements on arrival given a Renault methane . Luggage would not fit in. Then given VW Touran as originally ordered but no Sat Nav. Not able to use map on phone as no signal in Tuscan hills had to buy map. On return to car hire lot had puncture 350 meters from the base. Time 15:15, 1 hour before flight check in and 3 hours before flight. Made nine phone calls to the numbers on the hire documents no response!! Phoned Police 20 mins later a safety vehicle arrived to prevent vehicles crashing into us. We were on a dual carriageway flyover with no hard shoulder . Safety triangle and high vis jacket were our only protection. Police arrived 20 mins later and towed us off the flyover. Almost 2hours after the incident and calls to the hire company made by ourselves and the safety vehicle driver. They sent a pickup truck to rescue us. I steered the car attached to a pulley onto the flat bed truck with all passengers on board as ordered to by the driver. Then without any securing of the car other than the tow point being connected to the pulley were driven to the car hire base. From the first contact the hire company were aware of our flight time but as is obvious by events made no effort to rescue us in a timely manner. Indeed the exact opposite was the case. I was told I would be charged for a new tyre even though their inefficient rescue had caused us to miss our flight and we had to pay over 500 euros for new tickets on another flight. Not yet been charged for new tyre or had any apologies. Currently considering my next course of action. "
