" I booked a Citroen Berlingo on Auto Europe. It was classed as an intermediate SUV with an automatic gearbox. In the worst case I thought I might get a Peugeot 3008 if the Berlingo was unavailable. This class of vehicle , with a combustion engine, was essential as I was on a cycling holiday to a remote part is Spain. I arrived at the Alamo collection point to find an EV SUV waiting for me. The Auto Europe web page made no mention of the vehicle being an EV. The voucher said EV but Auto Europe had my money by that time so there was nothing I could do. The Auto Europe web page is making false representations by showing a diesel Citroen Berlingo but providing a EV SUV. I was lucky in that Alamo swooped my EV SUV for a diesel transit van. My holiday could have been ruined by the EV SUV waiting- a vehicle that cannot be recharged in rural Spain and too small to carry any bicycles. "

They wanted us to go back to the alamo desk to arrange for a hire car the following day if a car was available. This was not possible as we had to arrange a taxi to take us to our hotel. We had paid for 7 days car hire and Alamo let our vehicle to another customer. We eventually hired a car in Benidorm which meant we had to find other transport back to the airport. This in itself was not in itself a bad choice of vehicle but we were expecting a 'Quashqai or similar'. The car was also heavily scratched & had not been prepared prior to rental. We had to take this as we were advised of a minimum 3 hour wait for the mercedes that was assigned to us! Drop off at the airport was impeccable, however. "

" The service in Madrid was unacceptable and I have complained about it to your staff at the drop off in Seville (who, by contrast, were excellent). It took 40 minutes from arrival at the desk to depart with the car, yet we were being served for 35 of those minutes. The man at the counter would wander off and ignore us, take phone calls and was incredibly slow. The only other member of staff (two staff is insufficient, given that they both fill in forms and escort customers to staff, meaning that the office is regularly unattended) served three people in the time our man took to serve us. The type of car we had requested, an SUV, was not available. We were given an upgrade, although it was not the type of vehicle we wanted. For the entire trip we had warning signs that the oil needed changing, which turned into oil level low. From day 3 we had warning signs that the tyre pressures were low. We don't think the car had been properly prepared for hire. "
