" Not taking advantage of your customers would be a good start. I paid £550.54 / ~$1050AUD on 17.02.2024 to secure my booking of a "MG3 or Similar" vehicle. When I arrived to collect the car, I was told that there was no such vehicle available, so I would have to be "upgraded" to a larger vehicle. I was bombarded with information about excesses, charges, fees, and cars. None of this information was presented clearly, and when I asked for any kind of explanation, I was treated as though I were stupid. After a very arduous process of repeatedly seeking clarification and not receiving it, I gave in and agreed to pay an additional fee so that I could leave. Initially I was told it would be an additional $1100AUD, more than doubling what I had initially paid. After further unclear changes, it was put down to £936.98AUD / ~£490, which I paid at the desk. Forcing me to pay a ridiculous "upgrade" fee for a vehicle that I neither wanted nor booked is awful. It was not my fault that the vehicle that I'd hired was unavailable, and the fact that I was charged for it was shocking. Pressure sales tactics are clearly effective, and I absolutely was pressured into agreeing to these terms. On top of this, the car broke down near the end of my trip. I phoned the roadside assistance number that was provided to me, and I was unable to reach anyone. I also phoned the Europcar desk at Brisbane Airport, and the general Europcar Helpline, to repeatedly be palmed off from one person to another with no answer. It took my father phoning from the UK to supposedly get an engineer out to check the car. I was told at 19:00 that the engineer would be there by 20:30 at the latest. I waited a further hour, until 21:30, and there was no sign of them. I hadn't yet eaten, so I went back to my hotel room to order in. Numerous further phone calls revealed that the engineer arrived at around 22:00, and since I wasn't there, simply left. No attempt was made to contact me. Another callout was then arranged. I was told at 22:30 that they would then be with me by 23:30. I waited outside until 00:30, with no sign of any help. A lone female traveller sitting outside in the dark gone midnight, with nothing to show for it, wasn't really a great way to close off my holiday. On top of that, I could not complete the activities that I had planned for the following day since the car wasn't working. I took a chance on driving the car 2 days after the breakdown, only so that I could get it back to the airport to catch my flight home. I got lucky and the vehicle did make it back to Brisbane International, but I did not feel safe the entire journey. When I went to return the vehicle, there was nobody at the desk. There were a number of other rental companies nearby with staff members, and the Europcar desk was the only one without a member of staff. I have never been so dissatisfied by a company before, and I've never complained like this before either. The treatment that I received from start to finish was abysmal, and I will not allow this to go unreported. You need to do better. "

" Awful - would never use again. For context, my boyfriend (the named driver) had his wallet stolen the day before we're were due to fly from uk to Australia for 6 months. I rang auto Europe to assess what we needed to do re picking up the car given the named drivers physical licence had been stolen in his wallet. It was an extremely stressful 24 hours (as we also had all of our bank cards and travel money taken) and the man I spoke to at auto Europe was the most unhelpful, inconsiderate person I have ever dealt with. He informed me that there was nothing to be done and that we would need to cancel the booking, losing all of our money. I asked to be put on as the named driver instead, asking for some sympathy given the circumstances but was told that given it was less than 48 hours until car pick up, we couldn't change the named driver. He was extremely forceful about telling me I needed to cancel the booking as we would not be able to pick up the car, to the point where I had to shout down the phone at him and tell him under no circumstances to cancel the booking as I refused to believe there was nothing that could be done and that we just had to loose all our money. Funnily enough, I rang Europcar at Brisbane airport directly and explained the situation. They were extremely helpful and told us to not worry, turn up after our flight and they would see what they could do. We arrived and they happily and with ease changed the named driver on the booking, for no fee and then also added my boyfriend on as an additional driver when his new licence arrived. Again, not charging us the full fees for this and showing some sympathy in the circumstances. All of this goes to show that auto Europe were only concerned in keeping our money and have no interest in helping customers. Disgraceful service. "

" I arrived at Auckland International Airport for a 5pm pick up from Bargain rentals. The flight was a little late so by the time I got to the phone to make contact with the shuttle bus it was 6.10pm I called the number and an automated reply informed me they were closed. It went on to ask me to leave my name phone number at number of passengers so and to go to the shuttle bus pick up place at the International terminal. It said they would send a message. Two hours later after 5 further attempts to make contact by phone and asking for help from Information at Auckland Airport we gave up and rented a car from Avis for 24 hours so at least we could get to our accommodation. This cost me $120 aussie dollars extra. Next day I drove the Avis rental to the Bargain Rentals location which was open. They gave no help re the previous nights attempt to connect the car. They said it was all in the booking details. I double checked. It said it closed at 6.00pm but made no suggestions how to connect. At the Rental location they said I had booked two cars with them. I did not only one. Ive checked to see if I had made a mistake but I cannot find more than one voucher, this one. They said they would reduce the rental to two days but as it was prepaid I would have to contact you for a refund. I told them I would need to return the Avis vehicle to the International arrivals drop off and requested a curtesy bus to collect me. This was 3.45pm. I dropped the car and went to the pick up area. Half an our later no bus. I went back inside and rang the number. Same recorded message. They said they would send a txt telling me where to get the bus. Nothing came, no txt, no bus. Finally after an hour and half I gave up and went to the taxi rank to get a taxi, at which point I saw a Bargain curtesy bus. I ran to flag him down, passengers saw me and told him to stop. He sped off. I ran back to the shuttle bus at International arrivals. I am 70 years old it was 37c and not easy. He at the far end of the park, saw me coming and made no attempt to come any closer. I finally made it it the bus. He asked my name which was wrong and the he said, he had been waiting at the Domestic terminal from 3.15pm This was a lie since I had only arrived at the Bargain location at 3.45. In front of other angry passengers he humiliated me about being a whinging Pom, loud enough for passengers to hear. Finally 5.35pm I go the the Bargain rental location and got a car. They said I had two bookings which one would I use and they would not reimburse me for the lost day. I and other passengers complained about the attitude of the driver. I was absolutely disgusted by the attitude of Bargain rentals. I intend writing to them but to have any hope of getting my one day less rental refunded they said I had to write to you. I have used Auto Europe for years and never had a problem with a pick up like this. Your service has been exemplary. "

" Picking up was simple enough, although once again the car type we actually ordered 11 months prior was not available. However drop off is a nightmare, there are no staff to advise where to go or where to leave car, no signs advising nothing. Using common sense but to all this perhaps would not be obvious, we went to the arrivals hall and left key with representative there. However no one checked the car and it is quite possible that the car could get damaged after parking it up and we would have no recourse because it hasn't been signed off. Overall we wouldn't use Enterprise here again. "

" This feedback is solely directed to the company Auto Europe, and not East Coast Cars. Auto europe provides a completely unacceptable service and unreasonable attitude towards its customers. The staff provide conflicting information and advice, and an unwillingness to help resolve issues. If you cannot 100% guarantee your travel plans will run on time, such as delayed flights, DO NOT book with Auto Europe as they will leave you stranded in another country and WILL NOT make an effort to help you. They will then likely quote their terms and conditions at you about not giving a refund, when you ask only to pick up the car you booked and paid for one day later. It will result in you paying twice for your hire car, and working up international phone call bills as you try to speak to someone who will only tell you something different than the last person. They are even unwilling to let customers talk to a manager. I have tried to make a formal complaint, yet have not had any response or even acknowledgement in 10 days. My experience with Auto Europe ruined my holiday plans and made me use my holiday money to pay twice for the car I booked through them. DO NOT use this company, it's not worth booking through them as it will only cost you more money - book direct with a hire car company. "

In Brisbane booked and paid for Hyundai Tucson 2WD or similar - had MITSUBISH ASX LS 2WD. I don't think this car was in the same category. We couldn't get all the luggage in boot, it was a much lower spec than the X-trail. The parking lot is undercover and we had to use the torch on our phone to check the car, glad we did as one of the alloys was scuffed. The staff weren't aware of this and if we hadn't spotted it, we could have been charged on our return. Am now wary of booking a category of car and not getting it. "

" Over 20 years of using Autoeurope, I have never had a problem with a car hire company - only when I have booked directly. I suspect that booking through your agency deters companies from spurious allegations as it would quickly become apparent if one company reported an out of the ordinary number of increased extra charges etc "
" The young lady working on her own at pick up but with no other customers gave no eye contact and spoke down to her computer keyboard. As a result the combination of my age-related presbycusis and the background noise made communication difficult when it needn't have been. Having said that, the rest of the experience was hassle-free as it had been with Europcar in Auckland the previous 3 days. In both cases, the cars had some minor paint damage which had not been mentioned at pick-up. The cars both in Auckland and Brisbane were collected from a dark outdoor car park and the scrapes were only apparent the following day. This didn't bother me but having had problems with cheaper Portuguese car hire companies in the past claiming old blemishes were new I was a little concerned. (Fortunately on the two occasions when this has come up I had collected the cars in daylight and photographed them comprehensively) Anyway, the drop off was keys into a box and I received an email from Europcar without comment and I would use them again.
