" Our exceptionally poor experience was with Buchbinder car rental and their Mother company Europcar and not Auto Europe. Our experience with Auto Europe has always been excellent. "
" We were warned that the car we had requested was not available and was allocated a MG SUV that was supposed to be the same size; however, this was not the case. As this was the only car allegedly available at this time we accepted the keys and went to check the existing damage advised by your sales assistant. The damage was extensive and the exterior and interior of the car was unclean, we reported this to the sales assistant and was once again informed this was our only vehicle option. Upon on our return to the car my Daughter and Son-in-law proceeded to fit the child seat provided by Europcar for my two year old Grandson. As they tried to secure him into the safety harness of the seat it became apparent that the harness was defective and did not meet European safety standards as the tension strap for the harness was not there and therefore my Grandson was not secure to travel. We returned to the sales assistants in the airport and they were dismissive of our concerns and our request for a seat that was legal and safe for travel. Once the missing seat tensioner was shown to the sales assistant a replacement was received, although begrudgingly. We then started to load the MG SUV and prepared to travel, when all of the electrics on the car failed and as my Husband had already prepared to drive the car, he was unable to put the wheel brake back on and the car started to roll backwards towards the car park wall, he then had to sit in the car with his foot on the brake, whilst I once again went to she sale assistants in the Airport to report the car was broken. I had to insist one of the sales assistants come to the car and witness the problem and our concerns, We were holding the car physically to allow my Husband to exit the car in order for the sales assistant to try and get the vehicle to work. The sales assistant could not bring the car back to life and had to search the parking garage for traffic cones to force under the back wheels to prevent Europcar's car rolling into a wall. My Husband then had to once again go to the sales area within the airport for the assistant to find him another car. While my Husband was in the Airport, my Daughter and I had to retrieve out luggage from a locked car boot (due to electrical failure). We had to crawl into the back seat and to drop a seat panel and drag the luggage into the passenger area in order to get it out of the dead car. We were travelling as a family with a two year old child to visit my 94 year old Mother and did not leave the airport until 12:15am of the following day due to this fiasco. I have hired cars through Europcar on numerous occasions and on this occasion their sister company of Buchbinder and we were truly disappointed with the poor quality of their vehicle and the lack of initial lack of concern from the sales team for the safety and wellbeing of my family. "

Getting hold of somebody at BER airport is difficult esp as all the numbers on the confirmation document are re-routed to a central point. I had to call three times before I ended up talking to somebody at BER. Even then the dispatch team did not pick up and I am none the wiser. I have e-mailed Mr Boltze and he came back within a couple of hours telling me that the car is re-hired and will not be back until the 28 December. I am hoping that the grey folder with the original death certificates is still in the car and that the team who takes the car in will check and pass on to the team upstairs as I am back in January. Let's hope. This would be excellent customer care if I get this back. "

" This is the second time I have used this company as my previous experience was good. On this occasion we were pleased to be unexpectedly provided with a larger car than we had booked. When we attended in the pick up area we found that our vehicle had two superficial scratches on the front nearside wing which were not shown in the check out section of the vehicles paperwork that we had been given. I took therefore took photos of the damage on my phone and t as there were no Buchbinder personnel to be seen, I had to search for a staff member. Once located, said staff member examined the rental vehicle and updated my paperwork accordingly to show said damage. I then took possession of the vehicle and one week later returned the vehicle in the same condition that I had received it in. The staff member in attendance at this time was shown my amended paperwork when he examined the vehicle at the handover. A few days later I received a letter from Buchbinder stating that I was responsible for the aforementioned scratches to the vehicles paintwork and that they had deducted nearly £800 from my credit card for repairs. The man on the desk explained that it was a busy time, and several people had returned cars late so they simply had none available. But we followed the marrtinlewismoneysavingexpert. com guidelines and taken out additional insurance ourselves. When I inspected the car, it had many scratches on it. I did this inspection with a member of staff from the hire company who verified the scratches and bumps and who marked them down on the documentation. We refute any such claim. The car was returned in exactly the same condition as it was originally received. If the returned vehicle was deemed in anyway 'damaged' then this should have been pointed out to us - in our presence - at the time of return and not three days later as we have no way of knowing what has happened to the vehicle after we returned it. " I upgraded to a BMW X4 and paid an extra £170 but when I got to the car it had over 68000 kilometres on it and when I drove it it had problems with a noise coming from the front axles. I thought it was maybe because it was a 4x4 but the sound got worse as we drove the car. Clearly the car was not fit to be driven. I complained and was told I would get a refund but the offered my 25 euros at a later date. "

" We were not impressed with having to queue for 1.5 hours at Munich airport to collect the car - after travelling to the airport and ahead of a 6 hour car journey. The car was under powered for the size - we assumed because the description said that there was space for c. 3 medium to large suitcases, that it would be able to cope with 4 people and luggage, but it really struggled up hills "

" The Pickup was excellent and the customer service was patient. We were able to get a car of the right size although the reserved model was not available. But after the return i had not received the refund of deposit till now. This is frustrating as it means i would have to pay the Credit card bill even though its a deposit if not i will incur finance charges. "

" I am a regular user of Auto-Europe, in fact I used to have an affiliate account (skills88) however I am concerned that some suppliers are 'playing' the system. The 'local charges' for traveling into another eu country are not warranted. Even where the vignette is needed for Austria they pay for it once for the vehicle and yet charge for it on every use. "
" We ordered a vw Polo and while I accept that 'equivalents' within the same class may be offered I do not accept that they should accept a booking for that car if there are no one on fleet. The ONLY cars in that class were a Skoda. I am not snooty about badges but I know from a previous rental that the clutch on that Skoda is uncomfortable for me and in mountainous areas it would be used a lot. They offered an upgrade at a fee but I feel that I should not be faced with such a 'Hobson's Choice ' . "

" Buchbinder tried to charge me for pretty much invisible damage to the wind screen, it took 10 minutes of fighting to get them to acknowledge that it was pre-existing. After that, they looked for something else and said that there was damage under the car, which was "invisible indeed but that they could feel with their hand". I wrote on the contract that I was disputing it and left (so I am now waiting on the outcome). Buchbinder tried to sell me a full tank refill despite me telling them i would drive less than 2 hours. I declined and did my own refill which cost me just under 10 euros... They were also very insistent on selling me the additional insurance. "
" Intially very busy but that was of flight delays clerk at book in desk insisted that we should pay for additional driver which we did but I was not happy about that vehicle given when we said we would struggle to get equipment in vehicle clerk on desk insisted we would so we went to vehicle AND tried but as predicted could not get 6 adults equipment and ski gear in VW sharan so we went back to check desk next young lady was excellent refunded the money taken by mistake and sorted out a vehicle of type we had originally ordered would I use them again yes vehicle we ended was fine and the price was fair. Something that could be of interest would be luggage storage in return for early return of vehicle to hirer. Overall view good "

" Again overall great service , staff etc very good , got the vehicle I selected but it was more than an hour late in delivery ( i allowed time for flight etc but didnt expect extra time on top of this), which put extra time on my journey...as a family not great..plus other family members had to wait till we had collected our car....vehicle inside windscreen covered in smears n in sunlight etc was a problem...screen wash light was on when I collected it n outside / inside could have been cleaner. " It went fine. Buchbinder were very gentlemanly and unhurried. They gave us an Audi A3. Fine. 35000 on the clock, but it was in good condition. Invited us to phone in about the minor external defects if we did not agree with their written assessment. The point being they didn't expect us to be able to assess it properly in the dark on pick up. On return they didn't really check the condition, but simply asked if we had had mishaps. We hadn't. "
