Given the small roads we were driving on, we didn't really want such a large vehicle, but had no choice. But it was only when we got home that I noticed we'd been charged €25 for fuel, when we'd completely refilled the car just before its return. "

I dropped off my vehicle a day earlier at 4pm I asked for paperwork but was told that I would receive an email confirming the vehicle was returned full and in good order. I have wasted multiple hours of my hard earned holiday with the above issues I request Auto cars look at compensating me for such a terrible service from Madeira Budget Car hire. "

Assistance was at first 'unavailable, out of office hours' then refused to offer any flexible practical solution, insisting that I make a 3-4 hour round trip to Faro to get a replacement. In the end, I discovered the problem myself - the key fob I was supplied with contained a completely rusted battery, and I was able to start car having changed battery, but I lost an evening's (and part morning's use) and incurred a Euro40 taxi fare. I have submitted a claim to Budget customer care and am still awaiting a reply 9 days later. Atrocious service - will never recommend them "

" We were told to pick up the car from a badly lit parking bay at the airport. No one came with us to inspect the vehicle. We were told that everything smaller than 3cm could be ignored. We were not told that windscreen chips any bigger than 3mm would be charged. A piece of paper given to us had this written in extremely small font and pixelated fonts that were impossible to read. Upon return, the car was inspected under strong floodlights and the inspector immediately reported a chip on the windscreen that we believe must have been there all along. I tried to argue that we were told that we had not been super meticulous on the collection because we were told nothing smaller than 3cm needed to be reported and we ourselves did not notice any impact that could have caused the small chip. The car was only driven in the city itself. As we were running out of time to catch our plane, we had to sign so we could leave. We were given an estimate bill for repair of 138.99 and a second receipt for 185,06 that included minus a "pre-paid" amount of 26,76, so I had to pay an extra 158,30. They could not explain how the bill came to this value and whether this is the end of it. This was very stressful and although I love autoeurope, I would never use Budget again. "

We did not receive a damage assessment when we collected the car being told that it would be emailed . " They added additional cover which I did not want. It was not explained very clearly when I signed for the car. They put a block on my card for 447.03 euros which I thought was a standard charge until the return was the car. On return they wanted an extra 363.20 euros which I questioned and said I was not paying. They advised me to go back to the pick up desk and discuss it with them. On arriving at the pick up desk there were only 3 staff and a long queue of people waiting to pick there car up. I therefore did not have time to wait other wise I would have missed my plane. I returned to the drop off point and the told me to ring Avis UK on my return. Following a 45 minute phone call I eventually convinced them that I was misled and that the only charges I should pay was the local toll charges. In conclusion this was agreed. My warning to anyone dealing with this company abroad is be very aware of what they are trying to sell you as the person must be on a commission basis. I would use them again but I would be far more aware after this experience. "

I was unable to register this with the on-site staff - I was advised to photograph all damage and then discuss on drop off. I spent two weeks worrying during the rental that there might be problems when droping off the car. No such issues at drop off, but the worry could have been avoided if the on site staff were to review the existing damage against documentation during pickup. "

" I originally booked a manual diesel car. When I arrived to collect the vehicle I was provided with an automatic petrol car. The lady who was arranging my collection was very unhelpful and unenthusiastic and basically told me this was the only car available unless I was willing to pay more. I am capable of driving both so this was not an issue but this could have proved very problematic for other drivers. She then tried to sell me an excess waiver - when I explained that I already bought this through the website she told me that I didn't have it and that this would be an additional cost. I showed her my documents and explained that I had bought this already and she still tried to convince me to pay more money. She stated that the excess waiver I had was with an external company and if anything should happen I would have to pay Budget the excess in the first instance, then claim it back from the third party company. Had I not have understood the process I would have been tricked into paying for the same thing twice! "

" was conned into upgrade that was special deal alledgedly only extra 12 euros failed to make it clear this was per day despite being asked if this was all . extra insurance etc etc, ended up far from budget. then was given key and told car was parked in bay 55.......no one showed us the car checked for damage nothing. after working out how the car started (keyless) and how to move seats tried without success to work sat nav or at least change it to english language!.......at this point and 15 minutes later we went back to office for help, it took two of your staff to work out the sat nav system (which is also the handbook if you have a week to work it out) were then once again left to our own devices to be on our way. (we ended up useing our own tom-tom sat nav in the end, i still have no idea what half the controls in that car did!......and would never consider owning one!!!!!.....we ended our time with you feeling we had just been ripped off........customer care was no existant and staff just appeared to want to extort as much money from us as possible....also never given a printed bill ,as we had no access to internet was unable to see what we were charged until we returned by which time it was too late. Took nearly 2.5 hrs to get the car, 45 mins of that time was spent at the counter with staff who clearly weren't interested in their job and even spent time browsing their personal mobiles whilst keeping everyone waiting. The admin side was so inefficient, at europecar, they go through the same detail in 10mins, signed and ready to go. Budget wanted me to sign without offering me the chance to read their t&c's. I had to rush through this as i'd been waiting so long for them to allocate me a vehicle. 3 staff at the counter took over 90mins to deal with the 7 customers before me, all of whom had vouchers. If this is how this branch operates then never again thanks. When I went to pick up the car, it was chaos in the car lot. Customers had to have new cars reallocated as the ones they were given weren't ready and when it was my turn the same thing happened. Lisbon Airport Budget is a total shambles. I am still waiting for the copy the contract to be emailed to me as promised or have they just taken my email address to sell on to earn some more pennies from their customers. I cannot fault the staff when I returned the vehicle though. "
