On return of the vehicle the Budget staff member was totally OK with the vehicle and agreed with me that it was certainly due for retirement and apologised saying that they had been heavily booked during this period. Mixed feelings about the whole affair really. "

The system ultimately ended in a paperless process with all check in details being sent to your email address. This i did not receive, even after a second enquiry at the pick up point. However, most unusually: 1) car fairly dirty externally (may have had a day or so in dust and rain) 2) rear seat crisp crumbs and sticky drink (easily capable of removal) 3) windscreen dirty and smeared internally 4) rather more importantly, two warning lights illuminated on instruments; a) low tyre pressures and which on checking by staff at my insistence before driving, were all low (they were corrected for me and the tp monitoring re-set by Budget staff) and b) low washer fluid (easily corrected by me later). Most unusual for a hire car to be sent out with clear easily correctable defects. "

When I was finally seen, I was given one of the most beaten up hire cars I've ever received... The list of damage was nigh on comedic - dents, scratches, and even missing part of a door handle. Whilst checking the car I (incredibly) found additional damage, but the staff weren't very interested... I asked if there was an alternate vehicle; there wasn't. In fairness, the car was OK beyond the surface damage despite having high miles. However, it flashed up daily that it was due an oil service, and that the key fob battery needed replacing, which definitely gave the feeling of the vehicle not being well maintained. " we booked the car online and paid an EXTRA FEE as a collision and excess waiver.... but when we picked up the car in Tenerife we were told 'The extra waiver was totally useless and we would need to pay an additional 231 euro AGAIN to take the excess from 2500 euro to zero and avoid any other extra charges and holding of 650 euros on our credit car'. As a family of 6 on a very strict budget this used up a significant part of our holiday money so we were unable to enjoy a number of planned trips for the children as a result. " The car was fine - I was expecting a VW Polo but Citroen C3 was just as good. Getting the car was confusing to say the least. The 'meeting point' at Arrecife airport is a concrete shelter hidden at the corner of the main car park - not marked and quite a way from the terminal. The order document simply said 'Meeting Point'. The other negative is the excess waiver insurance. I pre-bought CDW insurance from Auto Europe but this was not recognised by Budget, who insisted that I buy excess waiver insurance from them - and this cost more than the week's car rental! In hindsight, I probably should have refused this but it was late, I was tired after the meeting point debacle and I just wanted to get to my hotel. In summary - beware the excess waiver insurance 'upsell'! "

" Dreadful liars! I used the filter for airport pick-up, not the shuttle. There was nothing clear on the instructions to collect the car that a shuttle had to be taken. This added an additional 1 hour 25 minutes to my journey. I was awake since 2 am and chose airport pick up so it was simple and easy. This was not the case. I was charged a fee for airport collection. I was mis-sold a product. I paid for additional insurance, which the supplier could not see in their system. So, further profiteering from people. The supplier then charged me EUR 350 on my credit card. Stay clear of Auto Europe! Never, ever using them again! "

Their minibus shuttle has little capacity, so ended up waiting 45 minutes in a queue to reach the location. Upon reaching it, there was another queue of 40 minutes to sign the paperwork. I took out additional insurance but this was not recognised by Budget. They asked to take a block on my card for to cover this issue. I asked the agent to confirm this is a block, not a debit of funds, which she confirmed. Later, I received an update from my card issuer that money was debited from my account, not a block. Also halfway through the week the car came up with a 'service due' message and then a 'check oil' warning, which when I contacted them, they advised we take in to check and rectify or swap, so we lost a morning of our holiday driving back to the hire place for them to check it. Then on returning home I discovered that unlike every other car rental company I have used, rather than just taking a hold on the €500 deposit (£432.47) until the car is returned, they had actually charged it to my credit card. Today when I checked my card account to see if that amount had been refunded, I discovered that £407.73 was refunded, £25 less than they had originally taken so I am pretty annoyed. I understand this may be due to currency fluctuations but that is why it should be taken as a hold and not as a charge. The staff were great, but I will definitely not be using budget again as the original very good value price has just been ruined by the extra £25 I have now had to pay due to the way they take the deposit. "

" The only disappointment on arrival at the airport there was no actual instructions explaining where we were to meet the transport to take us to the show room for the collection. I had to ask a couple other car suppliers where we could find the pick up. It all went well from there. The travel to the office was very good, arrival and signing for the car was again very easy, went through the paper work, shown and taken to the car, showed around, covered the vehicle dents, fuel, tyres etc all as normal hire car information. Returning the car was easy, the inspection, of the car on covering all the normal damages etc. signed us off and took us back to the airport. The staff were all experience, didn't try to scam you and try to get extra money from you, which was nice considering other suppliers do try and get money from you. I would recommend Budget without doubt and i would use Budget again and planning very soon. Thank you, Budget UK and Lanzarote Budget who were very good indeed. "

It wasn't the car I ordered and it had an unusual locking/unlocking system even though it had a conventional key. We didn't discover this until the next day when we thought the locking system was broken. We then tried and failed to contact Budget. We spoke to AutoEurope who were helpful and also tried to phone Budget with no success. During the next two hours we were given around 8 different phone numbers for Budget, including one in the US, none of which we were able to get through to. Eventually the hotel were able to speak to a technician at Budget who explained the way the locking system worked. So it was OK in the end but very stressful and unnecessary. "

It was very difficult to find the Budget (and some others) from the airport however as the signs for car rental only took you to the nearest two companies who were on site whereas Budget, Avis and Europcar were a short walk out of the terminal. Not far but not signposted -well we found it confusing anyway. It was hard to find the way in to the drop off at the end too - not well signed - you can see the office but not how to drive in "

Where is your reasonable wear and tear policy, the car had done 7000kms. The staff members parting comment was that he had our credit card details and he could now take money from us without our consent. We felt very threatened and we did not deserve this treatment. If you need the extra payments to make a profit increase your prices don't come up with nonsense arguments and encourage threatening behaviour. "

The only negative I would say was that the car had a glass sunroof and only a perforated blind to pull across. Second problem, after drop off we were emailed photos showing damage. The exterior scrape shown was there when we picked it up, on the video I took at the time, and annotated on the rental agreement. There was also a picture, which could have been from any car. It was supposedly damage to the leather on the front centre seat. There was no front centre seat! Third problem, I can find no invoice for the hire under my rental agreement number. "

The office was slightly off the AIRPORT attached to a service station, which caused big problems as on the way back which was on a Sunday they were closed and didn't offer a ride back but did leave phone numbers for taxis. When we called the taxi it cost us 22 euros to do a 2 min driv (we couldn't walk because it was on) motorway. This significantly increase the cost of the whole rental, would never use again and I am actively telling people to avoid. "

Staff said they thought the tyre was ok and if i wanted to get it checked i d have to call the recovery assistance, which i did. The tyre got checked and was fine. Basically the tyre pressure measuring device was faulty. We lost half of day of the rental as we first approached the Budget staff then the recovery staff as we didnt want to drive far until we were sure the tyre was fine. Also we had to park at the Budget desk place as we wanted the car checking, which cost us 20 Euros "

" When i picked the car up i raised the issues about tolls as i was travelling Spain and Portugal. I was told all tolls are manual so not an issue. In portugal there were a mixture of automatic tolls and manual tolls. Where i could pay i did. With the automatic tolls i was unable to pay them in portugal because the car is registered in spain. The run around from Portuguese authorities because I want to pay the tolls has been difficult and they remain outstanding. I have been in contact with Budget and got the run around and couldnt even get an email address until the car was dropped off. I have sent an email with the details and still no response. Autoeurope are just as bad as no response for two weeks. I do not want to end up paying processing fees and fines that cluld be avoided. Customer service has been disgraceful and id suggest non existant. "

" I've used Budget several times recently and mostly with very positive experiences. This largely fell into that category. Girona isn't the best place to rent a car as there is an irritating walk to the rental locations and on this occasion a minor hiatus at the check in desk as a rental novice was patiently talked through the process. As I'd checked my details online a slightly elongated wait was a bit irritating but I was restored to good humour by a really pleasant and efficient woman at the counter. The car was a Kia which met our needs although for me it didn't convince as a driver's vehicle. It had very light steering which on the bends I thought oversteered requiring regular adjustments. Of course that might have been me being used to a very precise steering automatic at home! The drop was excellent too. Very straightforward and quick with the bonus that, in heavy rain, your counter guy put us in the car and drove us to the departures. Can't speak highly enough about your counter staff on this occasion. "

Was warned by the rep though that it wouldn't take a large suitcase in the boot and not to put it on the back seat as local police could pull you over for this (presumably as it could be a dangerous loose item in an accident) and was offered slightly bigger car for an extra 5 euros per day. Politely declined this and fitted our suitcase in the boot no problem. "

" There was confusion at the airport as there was an Avis desk, which on one side was a 'priority' service and the other side was normal service. Not very clearly advertised. Stood in the wrong queue for 20 minutes to be told we had to go the other side. However, the clerk was very kind and agreed to process our ticket. The car had a half-full tank of petrol, which we only realised on the way to our resort. It should have been full. We had to send an email to clarify the situation. We were provided with an alternate car, which was not as good (powerful) as the one we had requested. However, this was ok and adequate for driving around Lanzarote. It was in excellent condition with hardly a mark. "

" On arrival at Lanzarote airport straight up to the rental counter so very quickly dealt with, however there was an Issue with the car. The paperwork stated undamaged which was far from the truth. Four noteworthy impact on bodywork, ignition key blade didn't easily come out from the key, quite awkward sometimes and one of the parcel shelf mounting point I had broken off. In the large rental car park I struggle to find someone to point out the damage in the car parking area were not particularly interested. Return the car weekday 10 am again no one in the car parking drop-off area had to return the key to the terminal desk where you couldn't go over the car with someone at the time of drop off. "

" I rented many cars from Auto Europe over the years and in general it always worked well but my last experience with the confusion about the excess on the CDW will make me more careful where to book it. "
" The rate of budget was good, no complaints about that. Counter staff was friendly enough but tried to sell car insurance and a strange road assistance cover. Obviously the road assistance should be provided by the car rental company without extra charge in case of a breakdown or accident or whatever... Worse for me was that on my Auto Europe voucher an insurance excess of 1694 Euros was printed but when I came to the counter they printed me a contract which said my excess is 2420 Euros plus 21% tax which brings it to almost 3000 Euros!. No one from the counter staff made an effort to explain that. I was just told that's the way it is and Auto Europe must have made a mistake and I have to sign it if I want the car. Guess it would be a good idea if Auto Europe would get in touch with Budget in Spain to clarify what the excess really is. The car was a Ford Focus and had more than 50000km on the clock and lots of scratches which I found unusual for a rented car from one of the major car rental companies but it didn't bother me. "

This policy should be reviewed as I often hear less savy or regular hirers getting flustered by the hard sell. Its not a good perception for the car hire business. The man behind the counter was very efficient and polite but he clearly needed more colleagues to enable the operation to run more efficiently. Several people in the queue chose to abandon their bookings a book cars with other operators. "

We had to go through all the damages twice as the system didn't take it. We returned the day after we collected to add an additional driver. The branch is closed every day between 2-4pm. We waited until after 4.30pm for staff to arrive. Then another hour to be seen as there were two people waiting before us. Incredibly slow. When we complained we were told there is nothing they can do. To make it even worse the branch is closed on Sunday so we had to get a taxi to the airport. "

Eventually I contacted Autoeurope but was told that they would hold the car for 2 hrs max even though Budget had my flight details and would email Budget on our behalf. It would have been better to have an email for budget so as to contact them directly from the UK to let them know what was happening! "

Page 5 of your terms and conditions states collection by McDonalds - assumed this must be within the airport as we'd selected Airport Collection and Drop off. Not accceptable. "
" Your voucher stated, and we had chosen, airport collection and drop off. On arrival we searched for the Budget desk at Almeria Airport and asked around. We were told an Avis guy should be outside. He wasnt. We called the local number and were told he'd be there in 5 minutes. We then ended up in a transfer vehicle to collect our car from a different location. This was not made clear at the time of booking. We had booked to return the car at 19:00 on the 4th June only to be told the office closes at 13:30 and the last shuttle to the airport is at 13:00. When we stated that this was not acceptable as we'd booked airport collection and drop off, the Avis representative advised we could get a taxi or a bus from their offices. There were no taxi ranks or bus stops viewable. We contacted Auto Europe during our holiday and were advised we should go to the airport first and get a taxi to follow us to the Avis office to then get them to take us back. Totally unacceptable. "

" Easy online booking process at a competitive rate and when we telephoned to check if our booking had been processed (as we hadn't received an email at this point), the gentlemen on the phone was very helpful and put us at ease. So thank you to Autoeurope, but this is offset a little by the experience with Avis Budget at Valencia. "
" Upon arrival at the airport, we found that the office in the terminal building was closed and we were redirected to the office in the car park. There was a short wait to be seen which was not an issue as we were not in a hurry. When I got to the desk, the first thing that occurred, was that I was pressured into taking an upgrade vehicle at extra cost. I declined the offer. I was then pressured into taking the same upgrade but at a discounted price. I declined this offer as well and said I just wanted the vehicle that I had booked. I was then pressured into taking additional insurance cover at an extra cost. This was uncomfortable for me, as I now felt I had to accept some sort of upgrade or the vehicle collection was going to take far longer, potentially until I did accept some sort of additional charge. I reluctantly agreed to pay an additional that would reduce the excess (if I had any form of accident or experienced any type of damage) to €100. The cost of this, once the fuel charged had been reimbursed, was about £90 and being a safe and experienced driver, I didn't actually need it in the end. But the up selling pressure and the risk doubt that is put upon the customer at this point is unnecessary, particularly after a long journey to get to this point. Having finalised the arrangements and digitally signed a very long and wordy contract (that I am sure nobody reads as it would take too long), my credit card was processed. The ordeal of the administration now over, I was handed the keys and given the parking bay number. Upon arrival at the bay, we found a vehicle that was not even close to the one we had booked. We had booked a two door Fiat 500, a nice little compact car, but were given a Peugeot Rifter, a very much larger 7 seater vehicle that more resembled minibus/taxi. We went back to the office to complain, only to be told that this was the only vehicle they had to offer. If this was the case, I suspect that this was the same vehicle that I had almost been pressured into taking as an upgrade. No staff came out to hand over the vehicle and so we took numerous photos of minor damage around the vehicle. We then set off on our journey. The return and drop off was much simpler and a staff member did come out to check the vehicle and fuel level, pointing out a chip on the windscreen that was there when we picked up the vehicle. We advised him that we had photos of the vehicle at the time of collection and he let the matter drop. Overall, the experience was not as simple or as pleasant as it could be. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, but the up selling experience was disappointing and we could have done without it, as I resent paying an extra fee that I didn't need. Plus I would have liked to drive away the vehicle that I had booked. "

" Thought I'd bought full additional insurance cover but was told at airport this did not cover punctures or callout charges for breakdown. Was asked to pay more but I declined. Was also informed I could have a different vehicle for an extra 8€ per day which I declined. Was expecting an Opel Corsa but got a Toyota Yaris-which was fine by me! However when I gained access to the car I could not start it as the dash stated 'not ready to drive yet'. There was no-one in the Budget booth on Floor 3 so I wasted 15 mins going from floor to floor trying to find someone! This was quite distressing to me as it was dark and I was a woman travelling alone-wondering anxiously round a multi-storey carpark. Eventually I found a Budget employee who was unable to resolve issue, but a male colleague who appeared told us that the clutch had to be depressed before the engine would start. If only I'd been informed of this in the airport booth! So, all in all a frustrating and stressful start to my holiday sadly. Things were fine however from day 2 onwards! Thank you. "

I reported this and (was told it was logged onto my account and I could drive to Girona (140km!) for a replacement car. I just didnt use the rear wiper again as it had no rubber blade. I cannot be responsible a blade which detatches because I've switched the rear wipers on! Also this was reported and again brought to the attention of the desk on return of vehicle. Have emailed customer services twice over 3 weeks and not had a response (other than auto reply) for clarification on surcharges, i.e exactly what the surcharge was for, over and above the damage fee. " At collection, I was asked to sign a totally blank computer screen which I assumed was simply to place a block on my credit card. On return, I was presented with a bill for 658.84 euros to cover the rental cost plus additional insurance and miscellaneous other items which I had NOT requested. (As part of the prepayment, I had already chosen to pay an additional sum for a zero-excess option, so I did not need these extras). Just to rub it in, the Budget invoice which was later sent to me reduced the nett sum payable by only 157.99 euros, not by the full £184.88 I had paid via Auto-Europe (i.e. approx. 213 euros at current exchange rate). No problem with Auto-Europe. I use you frequently. But this appears to be a scam based upon the sheer impracticality of being able to check the contractual details at the collection desk. This led to a further bill of 500 Euros. The amount I prepaid was also reduced due to "currency conversion". 2) I ticked VW Golf or similar (as this is the size of car I drive). There was a huge 4x4 Seat Tarocco waiting for us which was very difficult to drive around the narrow streets of Andalucia. 3) You claimed the Sat Nav would be charged at a maximum of 84 euros. The man at the desk kept saying that was not true and the documentation I held was from "some other company" and not Budget. We were charged 15 euros a day (10 days in total). Also it was 5 years out of date! "

So I showed her the video and its date, which she accepted as proof. However if I hadn't made the video in the first place, we would have been landed with a bill for pre-damage to the car. I wish to make a complaint as I feel that the collection of the vehicle in Cordoba was not conducted in a professional or upstanding manner, we were pressured to pay additional monies when the car was collected and 'set up' to potentially pay for damages not caused by us upon delivery of the vehicle in Malaga. I initially booked the vehicle through your company and in addition to the standard fee, paid the additional fee to ensure that excess fees were refunded in the event of damage to the vehicle. My husband was to be the named driver, so he went to collect the vehicle in Cordoba whilst I stayed at the apartment with my youngest child - I had advised him that we did not need any extras or insurance due to the fact that I had purchased the additional policy. When he arrived to collect the vehicle, the staff continually badgered him in to taking the £16 per day insurance (this figure started much higher) stating that he was required to have it before taking the vehicle - they did not refer at any time to the additional policy that I had already taken and would not move forward with the transaction until he agreed to buy additional insurance - It was at this point that they then released the keys of the vehicle to him. The pick-up took approximately 20+ minutes due to this which proved challenging for us as we needed to exit our apartment with the luggage, which is why he conceded to charges in the first instance. The staff did not examine the vehicle with my husband, to potentially identify existing points of damage/scratching etc, they just allowed him to take the vehicle. As we have hired vehicles in many countries, my husband fortunately photographed all points of damage before taking away as there was a particular bad scratch/damage to the front drivers side that we wanted to ensure that we were not accused of being culpable for. Upon return to Malaga airport on 06/08/19 - the vehicle was inspected by the member of staff from Budget before it could be signed in! She noted the large scratch to the front and asked if we had proof that we hadn't caused it - fortunately we did however without the our personal photographs at Cordoba, we could have been left with hefty charges. She essentially was asking us to 'evidence' that we had not caused it which is shocking considering it had not been checked at Cordoba - which can only lead me to believe that we were being entrapped to pay further fees. She also questioned why we had taken the additional insurance when we had paid the initially excess refund fee at the beginning - we explained what had occurred and she recommended that we make contact to notify yourselves. Our experience has not been great and we are a further £96 out of pocket on top of what we had already paid - due to the heavy handed approach at Cordoba holding our vehicle 'hostage' until additional fees were paid. The details are virtually impossible to read. But it does suggest that you check your status with them (presumably about whether you have incurred extra charges) on their website (an address would have been useful). When you try to find out on this web-site, you can fill in a form, but then if you try and send it, it wouldn't respond. It says, if you are having difficulties, e-mail us on this address (press here). So you do. And the mail gets returned as it is an invalid address. " Overall my experience at Avis/Budget at BCN airport T2 on Sunday evening was dreadful. I felt really upset when I finally left. Budget is a reputable company - I deliberatly didn't book with a cheap, off airport company because I wanted a swift and easy car hire experience. This couldn't have been further from what I actually experienced. The lady in the terminal was v pleasant but the 2 men in the office in the car park were very rude. I don't think I have experienced customer service as bad as that for years. I honestly don't know how Budget/Avis can hire out cars in an illegal condition and then treat you as if you are the problem when you ask for a different car. I will never rent from Avis or Budget again at BCN airport nor would I recommend them. I still plan to make a complaint to Budget directly as I was so disappointed by the service I received. "
" I booked a car in the Fiat 500 class but was given a Smart car. This is not a similar size of car in ay way and so I asked for a different car in the class I booked. I was then given a Fiat 500. Having had to queue for a second time to get the car keys I then inspected the car. There was significant damage to the car over what was listed on the rental documents but what shocked me was the tear in the tyre that was at least 3cm long. I could lift a flap of rubber. Not only was this car too dangerous to drive but it was also illegal in that condition. I would not have driven it if it was my own car. So I had to return to the rental desk and queue again to tell the staff that the car was damaged. The response I received was very disappointing. I was treated as if I was a trouble making customer but eventually the staff member agreed to come and look at the car. When I showed him the damaged tyre he just turned and walked straight back to the office without saying a word. I was given a third car, another Fiat 500. This also had more damage than was listed on the contract. I marked all the additional damage and returned to the rental desk to ask them to sign off on the additional damage. This time, a different staff member point blank refused to sign off the damage saying anything under 2.5cm they don't count. When I showed him a photo of the front bumper sticking out by 5cm he begrudgingly relented but demanded I drove the car to the hire car office. Given the car was only 10m away this was ridiculous but I moved the car and the staff member disappeared. So I was back talking to the previous staff member who again with much begrudging signed off the additional damage. All in, the time from being rented the first car to me finally being able to leave the hire care area was over an hour. This was a ridiculous waste of time. "

This is misleading and led to me encountering unexpected additional costs that more than doubled the price that I paid to you as agent (£111). £265 in total for a 4 day rental off season (I willingly added an additional driver at a cost of 40 Euros) is ludicrously expensive and had a real impact on our holiday. I have only now had a chance to check everything. 1) I paid £129.69 to Autoeurope and only received €116.16 (£105.60) as credit on my bill from Budget. . Leaving me out of pocket by £24.09(using 1.1 €\£ as a rough exchange rate). 2) despite the voucher saying fuel was full to full Budget still charged me for a tank of fuel. " WHEN I had booked the car on the internet, I thought that I had no more to do than sign paperwork, and head off with the car. It was a nightmare. First of all, they had only 1 person on duty, and had to wait for around 30 minutes to get any service for their Madrid airport desk (Terminal 4) Then they tried me to upgrade the car to which I replied NO, and do this more than once to confirm that NO means NO. They they pushed me to take maximum insurance cover, and they rattled off various prices for insurance, e.g. windscreen, super damage waitver and 'additional products - whatever that is meant to mean. Then they added a location and surcharge to the REntal agreement number 824926931 and there was never mention of this whilst talking to them at the desk. Was then asked to sign the paperwork on 2 pages without any explanation except for the fuel on return to be full up, or charge me Euros 66.84 Then were advised again that we would get an upgrade with a sat nav, which we never asked for , nor did we want this, as had our own Sat nav taken over from the UK. This was absurd, and I have no idea on how much extra we were being charged for this 'supposedly extra'. Also, at no time, were we advised that the car had 7 damaged parts on the car, as never shown this by anyone, and also the front right wheel of the car had an illegal type as it was below the minimum depth of team. So after 20 minutes, i was allowed to go to their official desk in the car park and had to wait a further 20 minutes to get the keys of the car, and never once were given a viewing of the car for damage etc, nor how to work the sat nav, which we did not ask for either. It was 2 days before we spotted the 7 problems with the car, and could believe that this was being offered to us 'as an upgrade'.. Totally disgusted with Avia/Budget and had not used them in the past, and I will contact them directly with my complaints, and will never use them again, as well had to pay an extra 535.36 euros less 66.64 for diesel plus 257.96 for my initial payment when I had booked the car. That is aorund 900 euros for a 2 week hire, and this is my complaint to the boss at AVis from Madrid airport Terminal 4, and yet I did not get the car I had asked for. Terrible service from what is supposed to be a professional company within Europe. I will be looking for a massive refund from Avis/Budget. "

However the experience vastly improved when returning to the Malaga garage counter where the staff were fantastic. They were incredibly welcoming, providing cold drinks for my obviously hot children as well as providing an upgrade car, a Renault Talisman, at no extra cost. I found the whole experience quite unclear, from who Auto Rentals are - I did not appreciate you were a third party when I made the booking, to the Budget car rental office at the Girona airport offering extortionately expensive levels of unnecessary insurance. Also, it would be helpful for your contracts to define the type of insurance provide using the terminology to which most people are used to dealing with when buying car insurance, for example: third party, full comprehensive etc. I did not find the experience of using Auto Rentals/ Budget a happy one, I would not recommend your services, and would advise caution to anyone looking to hire a car in this way.
