They made us wait 45 minutes for our car before we asked what was going on, then discovered they'd never gone to get it in the first place. They didn't do a walk around to check any damages (which we only realised after because at that point we were in a rush). I am disgusted and have emailed budget but they are not interested saying only that I signed the contract. I thought I was signing the contract already agreed! I have said I'm happy to pay £13 for car insurance for my partner because that is what I thought I was signing up for but I do not think it is right that I should be charged for the rest. " I booked via Auto Europe UK. That worked OK. Then I got a mail from Budget to register all my details to help reduce the time spent at the counter, which I did (7-8mins worth of time). Then, 3 days before arriving in Manchester, I got a phone call from a Budget rep asking me further questions about the rental, which I answered (5mins worth of time). When I arrived at your office, the process didn't appear to go any quicker or slower than I'd have expected to spend if I hadn't given all the information beforehand (still took 10mins+). There has to be a way to streamline this process, such that having given all the details online, the registered customer produces a passport or ID card, driving license and they're simply given the keys (IF and only if it's the same person standing at the counter who registered online - it was in my case). The other obvious thing which plagues every car rental outlet is the plethora of other issues with the vehicle, not recorded on the damage sheet beforehand - so many in fact I was very careful to document everything with some 21 pictures (including the underside), both at the start and end of the rental, in case of repercussions later. I can send the pictures if you wish, for your records. As it was, everything went very smoothly. It's probably just me, but when I got back to the rental returns, it was not obvious that I had to approach the barrier for it to go down and let me in - It almost suggested to me that I should go in via the Europcar entrance ,but I could see that was wrong (after 2 looks). Maybe instructions about returns at the time of booking, or as part of the rental "pack" or different signage? Overall, the car was fine. "

" Firstly the car that was provided by budget had mechanical problems resulting in my having to call the AA on two separate days before the car was deemed un-drivable and needed recovered. This wasted the entire holiday as I had no suitable car. Luckily the AA managed to recover me and my family back to the airport. Secondly Budget have charged me yesterday a payment for £410, and there is another payment pending to Budget for £133. No idea what these are for as I already paid the car via Autoeurope months ago. No correspondence from Budget about any of this "

According to the attendant, what he was offering me was a bigger car than the one I had booked. So, I asked to see the car he was offering me (Mokka) and he showed me and compared it with another one, the C3, which is really smaller. However, when I checked my voucher the car booked was a C3 AirCross and not the C3. At this point I was informed that they did not have any Air Cross available. I didn't like that approach. It wasn't right to compare a C3 with Mokka to pressure me to accept the exchange due to lack of availability. I have never had any problem with Budget before and I hope not to have it in future again. "

We were in a remote location and it was very worrying until we found a garage. The mechanic checked the oil which was incredibly low and needed a litre to get back to normal. This cost me £10. I tried to ring budget on the day but the phone went unanswered. When I returned the car they said they would refund the £10 which has not happened. I am more concerned that this was not checked properly BEFORE the car was hired to me. What are your expected standards.? A very worrying experience which ruined our last day of holiday. I took the vehicle three hours before the time I thought I would but returned it the day before but despite that they raised an additional £92. They also raised a pick up fee of £60 odd pounds as a pick up fee at Gatwick which was most annoying as I had always booked it for Gatwick. They also tried to get me to take full insurance with them in addition to what I had booked through yourselves on the basis that you were just an agent and I would have difficulty in the event of damage or an accident. All this has left me most unhappy "

" Very disappointed w AutoEurope - where the airlines are currently very flexible in Covid times AutoEurope was not at all and even though i called just within 5 mins of the 48 hrs "deadline" before car pick up time, the operator would not budge an inch to let me change the booking to the next day and extend the booking for 2 days. In the past AE has been much more accommodating even at the last minute. I wasn't impressed. I was rushing back to visit my mum who was ill and passed away the next day. I just didn't welcome the extra stress caused by being told i would have to cancel the booking, lose the money, and rebook. I then emailed Budget directly and they changed the booking without any issues. "

Was helped out instead by ringing Southampton airport who got a message Through to budget who were very willing to wait for the flight - this was something that I would have expected Autoeurope to have sorted out for me rather than scaring me into thinking I would land and there would be no hire car for me as the office would have shut! It is legal to drive in France with a UK driving licence but because I had not changed the address on my licence, which is impossible to do if you are not a UK resident, Budget refused to rent me a car. " Car smelled of cigarette smoke and I took it back with more fuel in than when I picked it up. Worst of all, when I collected the car it was raining heavily so it was difficult to the condition of the car, other than the visible areas. When I took the car back they 'quickly' discovered scratches under the front bumper which were definitely not caused by me. However, I could not prove this, even though the car was always parked away from other vehicles, so I had to accept a charge of £735. I resent my integrity being questioned and the fact that the person checking in the car, suddenly 'found' the scratches. "

But we specifically wanted to pay the tank of petrol with a different credit card to avoid non-Euro transaction fees on our credit card. Although this was promised by the counter staff we discovered today that it was charged to our German credit card in GBP and we had to pay transaction fees, although we explicitly wanted to change to pay for that portion with our UK credit card. Maybe it would be better to have less technology and on-screen signing and more actual listening and follow through to customer requests. Overall, the rest was good, however this oversight left a bad aftertaste. "

" on return there was no indication of any new damage and I received a receipt showing nothing owed. so it worked out in the end, but I wasn't pleased with documentation before that point "

I asked that this be added and guy from Avis came out and did this than said he'd changed the form online to this effect. I asked for a receipt. He said I'd have to go to the checkin counter for this. I did and asked for a printout of change and was given one that didn't show any change. Lady there used magic marker to add newly noted previous damage. She didn't sign this so it wasn't a formal receipt and I assume that the printout didn't show the damage that the guy had said was noted online. Not very reassuring documentation. "

I denied to get the car, and they staff gave me another car. " My departure was delayed by half an hour because when I tried to start the engine the onboard computer said start up impossible due to no ad blue in the tank. I called someone over and there was no ad blue on site. He had to call a friend and go and get some. This should have been checked. On return? I left the plot in tears as the woman who checked me back in was so so rude. I had taken the car home from my break first to unload. I got the dustpan out as we had been in the car for five hours and had eaten lunch I wanted to sweep the crumbs up. I didn't realise that I had transferred a few dog hairs to the car from the brush. The woman who checked the car back in asked if I had dogs in the car and I truthfully told her no. She told me I should be honest with her. I offered to call the resort I had stayed at as they do not allow dogs. She again asked me to be honest and said it looked like I'd had dogs I. The car. There must have been five hairs! She said well you should not put the dog in the car. I repeated that I hadn't. she completed my contract and said that for future reference do not put your dogs in the car I again told her (for now about the 6th time) that I did not have a dog in the car and she said why are you arguing I'm closing your contract aren't I? . I'm just saying in future don't have the dog in the car. I said but you are basically calling me a liar to my face. She just shrugged and walked off smirking. This all took place in a busy car park. She was loud and sarcastic and rude the whole time this conversation went on smirking and shaking her head at me. . I was absolutely embarrassed and being called a liar to my face is just unbelievable. I had taken a 3 day break as my daughter is very unwell and we needed some down time. I hired a car so the whole thing was a treat. I absolutely loved the car I hired and the price was amazing. It's just a shame that I had to leave the car park in tears to end my break. "

" Picked the car up at Glasgow Airport drove it to Renfrew and parked outside my friends house where it stayed until it was time for me to returned the car unfortunely I reverse into a rot iron fence and did some damage to the back of the car when I told the parking attendant he said I bet you were glad you took the out the full insurance that there was nothing to pay I thought it was a bit pricey at first even moan about it to my friend but I am glad I took it out. " I know I'm abit late with the complaint I have been abroad and just got back a week ago I had all my documents and I had booked in well advance for the 6th of October collecting my car from Waterloo Avis budget when I got their the guy said everything is fine but when the manager came out she said I failed security which can't be true because she offered me another car small category but I had paid for a c class she said their was a lot of cars going missing from here branch so she didn't want to give it to me which basically means she is calling me a theif when I had phoned a month in advance to make sure my booking is confirmed not only did this happen to me but also to my mate once i told him about my incident the staff at the counter were ready to give it until the manager said I can't have it apparently I failed the security check when I asked for what reason she couldn't answer and said bring a bank statement and I did but still refused and I also had paid 200 I didn't get a car and my money was gone for no reason Im sorry to say but from that experience I would not recommend Avis budget to any one I am in the travel and tourism industry I would be warning tourist and locals not to go through Auto Europe Avis budget so they won't be robbed for their money "

Should we have other evidence of residence to present at car rental desks (not just Budget). Your pre-rental documentation may need to be more explicit. I usually try and remember to bring a copy of the annual council tax statement as supplementary identification evidence although no car rental company has ever asked to view such documentation. "

" I have use Auto Europe many times and have always had a positive and hassle free experience. I have found the online process speedy, simple and satisfactory and there prices mostly are the most competitive. They have been extremely helpful and obliging on the few occasions I've had to contact them by phone when making last minute or specific bookings. "
" The vehicle I had ordered was not available. I had asked for a small economical car but was told there were none on site so was given a large 7 seater minibus size van. This was late on a Saturday evening and appeared that there were others being given the same unsatisfactory offere, so with no alternative option and no chance of a suitable vehicle being obtained I reluctantly accepted it despite being unused to driving such a vehicle. It was a nightmare parking this vehicle and also was extremely heavy on fuel use, just about doubling my planned fuel costs. The only reason I didn't select completely dissatisfied in the score above was that they did at least provide me with a vehicle. I doubt that I'd choose this company (Budget) again. "

" Quick, efficient, no messing when I told them I had excess insurance. Just got on with it it quickly and had our car within 20 minutes. There were a few bits of minor damage not noted on the car so worth checking it well before leaving but no problems. "

Due to pre-booked smaller car not available at desk, ended up with more luxurious Mercedes B Class which was unnecessarily bigger and more fuel thirsty. Great car though. With no one around it took a few wasted minutes trying to release the handbrake & only as last resort pulled the 'button' which released it. Just about to head out of the car park, a bloke arrived asking for help with the same problem! Also not knowing about the eco setting, was alarmed when engine switched off at traffic lights at top of slip road off motorway. Put hazards on until worked out what was going on. Info sheet to pre-warn about these settings would avoid wasted time & hassle. "
" As a result of not reading the small print in full, I was unaware until picking up the vehicle that I would have to pay an additional £18 per day of my rental for insurance as a result of not having a credit card to hold an £850 deposit. If I had realised this when originally making my booking I would have cancelled. "
