Airport Information

Catering for over a million passengers every year, Almeria Airport is a quickly-developing air transportation hub for the Costa Almeria tourist region and an excellent alternative to Malaga Airport. Terminals

The main passenger terminal at Almeria Airport is a modern, well-designed building with noth the Arrivals and Departures areas located on the ground-floor. There is a terrace and a small cafe overlooking the runway for passengers to relax and enjoy some refreshments before boarding their flight. In the check-in area you will find desks 1 to 27 on the right, with Departures in the middle and Arrivals on the left. The airport has a total of six boarding gates.

Airport Facilities

Being a large international airport that mostly caters for leisure traffic, you can expect to find a wide variety of facilities at Almeria Airport. There are several good bars and restaurants, including an excellent self-service restaurant called Food & Goods in the Departures area where passengers can enjoy hot and cold meals, snacks and freshly-baked cakes before boarding their plane. In the main boarding area, travellers can also enjoy a relaxing meal or a refreshing drink whilst watching the aircraft arrive and depart through large windows adjacent to the runway. Additionally, there are several meeting points for people requiring assistance boarding their flight etc. There are two ATMs in the main Departures hall and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport (note that the log-in is quick and does not involve any e-mail requests or special access codes).

How to get to and from Almeria Airport

The distance to the centre of Almeria is just 10 kilometres, which means that travellers picking up their car hire at Almeria Airport can get into town in about 20 minutes outside the rush-hour. The airport is just to the east of the city and by car can be reached via the AL-12, which is the road that runs parallel to the runway. The busy A-7is also close to the airport and Almería has a good access to all the main Mediterranean seaside resorts by motorway, which extends north all the way up to the French border and ends at Algeciras in the south. For visitors heading into the interior, Almería is connected by the A-92, another motorway that links with the rest of Andalusia and Madrid. Getting around by bus is also possible and the bus stop at the airport is just to the right when leaving the main terminal building. Running 365 days a year, the city bus route 30 runs from the airport to Almeria city centre with an estimated journey time of around 35 minutes. If you need to travel further afield to places like Mojacar or Cabo de Gata then it's best to get a bus from the train station in the centre of Almeria. There are taxi ranks located right outside the terminal and there are generally plenty of taxis available, even during the peak holiday season, so you shouldn’t have to wait around for a taxi to turn up. Taxi charges are fixed to destinations so you can check before you get in how much it is going to cost you.

Parking Tips

As in many other old Spanish towns, the streets in and around the centre tend to be narrow and not built with 21st-century traffic in mind. There are also many one-way streets which can making navigating the centre a bit more challenging. Parking spaces are, therefore, hard to find in Almeria's historic centre, as there are very few spaces available, particularly during office hours. However, many public and private car parks have become available in recent years where you can conveniently leave your vehicle while exploring the city on foot. There are multiple car parks in the more central parts of the city within short walking distance of the main tourist attractions, such as Almeria Cathedral and the city's excellent Archaeological Museum. Alternatively, you can use the car park at the central train station, the Estacion Intermodal, which is quite large and central. While parking your car rental in Almeria, be mindful of the different parking zones: blue zones offer paid parking and are more centrally located, green zones are reserved for residents during certain times of day, and white parking zones offer free parking farther out of the city centre. Furthermore, there are plenty of parking spaces for travellers who decide to rent a car at Almeria Airport and require long-term parking as well as short stays.
