Cheap car hire at Auckland Airport with Auto Europe

While Wellington is New Zealand’s capital, there are a plethora of reasons to visit this coastal country’s most populous city, Auckland. Correspondingly, Auckland Airport is the busiest in the country, making the city an entry point for visitors and migrants from across Asia and the rest of the world. It’s an incredibly open and tolerant place, probably aided by the fact that the residents have such a great quality of life – Auckland is regularly voted the third best place to live on the planet. This is undoubtedly due to the wealth of outdoor activities and beautiful scenery on hand – famously the very same as shown in Peter Jackson’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy. The proximity of such breath-taking, rugged scenery means that you can be scaling a volcanic mountain range, kayaking down rivers or trekking through jungle all on the same day, returning to the city for a cocktail by sundown. The city itself is multi-faceted, with a variety of areas capable of suiting everyone’s needs and many strong cultural scenes blossoming throughout. A particular highlight is Karangahape Road, previously the city’s red light and LGBTQ district. Nowadays, gentrification has brought an unstoppable influx of stylish bars, shops and restaurants, but the area’s old spirit remains on display and is well worth a visit.

Auckland is a popular destination for surfers, with beaches known for consistent waves littered up and down the coast. Travellers of all stripes choose to take a car hire from Auckland Airport, as it provides the freedom to travel around the city, down the coast or perhaps as far south as Wellington and Christchurch for the road trip of a lifetime. At Auto Europe we’ve been in the car rental business since 1954 and have built strong links with the best suppliers. This means that we can offer you the lowest prices on the market and we’re proud to have been helping people to travel the world at their own pace for all these years!

Transportation / How to get to the airport

    By Car
In theory, Auckland Airport is only a 25 minute drive from the city centre via Highway 1 and Highway 20. However, during rush hour traffic can be very busy, which can make the journey last over an hour. It’s important to bear this in mind when returning your car hire to Auckland Airport around rush hour. Handily, there are several petrol stations close to the airport – Z is at the start of Highway 20 and another in Mangere operated by Mobil. For more information about driving in New Zealand, visit our New Zealand driving information page.

    By Bus and Taxi
The Skybus runs 24/7 to and from Auckland city centre and takes roughly 40 minutes, costing around $20. Tickets can be bought by the bus stops, or in cash from the driver. In terms of public transport, the 380 bus operates every quarter of an hour and connects Mangere to the airport. To reach Mangere from the city centre you must take the 31 bus and change to the 380 for the airport.

There are taxis available outside the airport around the clock. Many of the major companies like Alert, Auckland Co-op and Cheap Cabs offer a fixed rate to the Central Business District, which ranges from around $40-80, with charges for airport drop-off and pick-up included in the price.

    Parking Tips

Auckland Airport has a variety of parking options that range from Economy to Executive. The differences of price in each option basically accounts for distance from the airport. Economy offers a park & ride service – the shuttle bus takes 10 minutes. At the other end of the scale, Executive parking allows for a fast, seamless transition to the terminal.
